  • I rang up about he 2 nights comped for Mandalay Bay for when we are out there in June. for a 5 night stay it would be 2 nights free and 3 nights at their 'casino rate' of $150 a night which in the end didnt really make a great deal of difference to what we could have got on one of their other promo rates

Sta Travel could offer me return flights for around £665 during our two windows (4th-10th July, 6th-19th August) which was at least 100 pounds cheaper than anything I could find online. They also gave me a 20 pound off voucher if we book within 2 weeks.

However, with eBookers I have found a package for £827.89 per person which includes (indirect) flights from Heathrow to Vegas, and 7 nights at Tropicana. Can also get 6% cashback through Quidco which brings the deal down to £778.22 per person. I think this is a better deal than booking flights with Sta, then hotel separately. Because I don't think we will be able to find a room on the strip at a 4* hotel for £226 for the week.

    Thoughts?

Are your flight direct or indirect and with which airline? Sorry if you've said already as this will make a difference in the price. On the whole I think it looks like a good deal. £226 for hotel is $49 a night and that could be achieveable, but the weekend dates would be a problem and probably take it over that budget..... If you're happy with the price and taking away any hassle of booking your hotels later, then book. I'd also check the protection of STA if they went belly up. Not sure how big the company is or who it's linked with, if anyone :)

The package isn't with STA, it's with eBookers who (I believe) are fairly reputable. The flights I quoted are indirect, both involve a layover in Philly but only for a couple of hours. Don't really mind about transfers though to be honest. Direct flights are available for about £25 more each, might be worth paying the bit more.

Actually I know several -admittedly mainly Americans- who don't drink or gamble for religious reasons but go to Vegas for the shows. I've also come across several OH's whose spouses gamble and they just pool , shop and spa the time away .

    Strange.......but true :)

I had look at Tripadvisor and found Desert Rose and Staybridge Suites. They are both in our budget with kitchen, microwave and breakfast. swimming pool and still just 10 min walk to strip:j (Staybridge even with balcony)
What do you think? have you stayed in any of those?
We are now deciding between those two suite properties near the strip and Monte Carlo..

Desert Rose have had some problems lately-I wouldn't consider them personally on that alone.

Staybridge is OK but honestly for a first visit to Vegas something with a bit more Vegas character rather than a standard chain is nicer.
Of the two Staybridge but I think you could do better. Monte Carlo is definitely better .

To be honest restricting your choice for the sake of a $10 coffee pot is probably false economy (and all hotels will provide a fridge-even for free if it's to store medical supplies-but even if it's not -they are tiny.)

I'll be honest, if you were a friend of mine, I would absolutely say to stay on the strip is budget allows for your first trip. It really will add to the whole experience to be right in the middle of everything. Some people may disagree.....
As Trets pointed out on the first page, some hotels can be highly rated on trip advisor but it's not always reflective of the best places to stay. Monte Carlo without a doubt over either of the two you've mentioned. The location is great and now with all the city centre stuff on the doorstep, there's even more around that area than before.

What if you took the comp nights but booked the remaining nights on an unlinked (until you get to check in) promo rate? Does it make it a better deal ?
