MarchWhat are the rooms in the Rio like? The reason I wanted a suite in the venetian is if I was playing all day and my girlfriend got bored, she could go and chill in a large space; would the Rio suffice for this?
As this is my first time in Vegas, would you propose playing 2 games for 6 of 8 days, or playing one game for 3 of 8 days and being a tourist for the remainder? This is a once in a lifetime poker holiday for me, but I'm going in blind not knowing anyone who's played in the wsop.
Any and all advice is gratefully received. Have you been before, Spursman & Duchy? What did you play, how intimidating was it on your first trip?
I am by nature a cash player and don't play too many tourneys, I probably play about 3 on a 2 week trip. It will usually take me a couple of days to get my head straight with time differences, falling asleep at the table at 5pm because your body clock is telling you it's 1am is embarrassing, and the folk at the table won't disturb you and just blind you off (sorry that was for Disco!). You'll find decent information on cardrooms on allvegaspoker.com and they have a pretty decent forum as well. Tourney wise then it's Cardplayer scheduler.
You're only out there a week, you might be a man of steel but I would take it one tourney at a time i.e. play the first one and if you go out early on day one for example then you have a couple of days to spoil the fiance, whilst thinking about what happened, is your game and mind right to jump back in, what if you went deep and hit day 3 even making a score then again it's reflection time, playing in excess of 36 hours over 3 days will screw you up and you might just want to chill out and enjoy some of your winnings. As with most answers to a poker question the answer always starts with 'it depends'.
Rather than abandon yourself to a possible 6 days of tourneys out of an 8 day visit. I would have to think about focussing on the one you really want to be involved in and perhaps play one of the myriad smaller tourneys around town as a warm up. The advantage of these is that there are any number in the schedules that have evening starts so you can spoil your fiance by day and play by night. Some even have midnight tourneys so you can do the shows and dinner as well.
Our little group has had people play in the wsop for about the last 5 or 6 years, players associated with us have cashed in the main event, won 2 gold bracelets, taken down several of the smaller tourneys the biggest of which still payed $30k. The 2 bracelets were pro's but the rest of us are enthusiastic amateurs. We also have kept numerous strippers out of the poor house, helped hundreds of cocktail waitresses to keep up payments on their Mercs and been all round good people.
You should really troll the forums and glean what you can.0 -

Hmm, I bet your OH isn't looking over your shoulder as you type.
One crusty local at the tables told me that to have some 'fun' in Vegas, all a man needed was a bankroll and for a woman a pulse.0 -
