No Buying Toiletries in Jan 2011 !!!!

Better SPF moisturisers have factors 50 and are photostable, so only need to apply once. So if anybody wants to get full on with SPF, that's the products they should go for. They are big stash fillers though, because they're so thick it's really hard to use them! So I gave up and only use the drugstore gimmicks. Getter something then nothing!
I'm looking for an SPF moisturiser, but don't know where to look. Any recommendations? SPF 50 would be best. Or can you just buy an SPF lotion that you can add to moisturiser as I want to make my own with base cream and essential oils. Please call me 'Pickle'

Thanks Alioth for the explanation!! Is it the same with vaseline-based moisturizers? Or petroleum based oil? I always wondered because my skin gets just sticky or slippery, but next morning my dry patches are still there... or maybe it is just a sign of me needing more moisturizer!!
Sorry, I don't know! I'm only a lay-woman. Maybe you could try exfoliating more to remove the dry patches..0 -
got really into my body products but i really want to start setting up a decent facial skincare routine, can anyone recommend any products - nothing too expensive though!
my skin is combination - but more oily than dry if that makes sense! also i tend to have larger pores and quite a reddish tint to my skin!
any recommendations?!0 -

You need to go to shops and ask for samples. It's a hit and miss. I'm sometimes using Avene, but this stuff is hardcore. You really do need to slap on thickly, and it's mineral, so leaves you white. But maybe your skin will take it.
Using any suntan lotion from a shop is good, but it needs to be one you apply once for the whole day, otherwise it defeats its purpose. I prefer mineral ones because they don't have chemicals, although they usually don't provide a high UVA protection (UVA is the one that causes skin ageing). If you use normal suntan lotion, you don't need to mix it with a moisturiser because usually it has a moisturiser in it already. And by adding stuff you would dilute the SPF. If you want to make your own from scratch you need to make a mineral one with titanium dioxide for example, you can't easily replicate the non-mineral ones.
With any high SPF, you need to mattify it after putting it on, because boy, it is thick (sorry, can't emphasize more). I heard of using a small amount of Corn Starch (yep, the foodstuff). Very :money:. Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil is really 100% coloured corn starch!
Some girls use the corn starch because suncreens are reactive and cannot be mixed with some things that are commonly found in powders- otherwise they may stop working. I can't remember which ones they were, you need to google.
It's a lot of hassle, that put me of proper sunscreen. I felt I couldn't enjoy my pretty face cause it was always covered in a lot of thick goo and powders. But I hope it will work for you!0 -
Two UU today - Some bath milk from Next that I got in a gift set for Christmas last year, WIBA? Not sure whether you could get it anyway, but no, it was just a bog standard bubble bath
Heathcote & Ivory Rose luxury hand and body lotion - WIBA? Possibly, it smelt really nice and moisturised well, but took a bit of rubbing in.
Re running - 10 miles this morning, was pathetic. Had to stop once and walk another time:(. Woefully undertrained for next Sunday's half marathon0 -
Used up a Panteen shampoo for coloured hair; WIBA, yes quite a nice shampoo. Bought half-price shower gel in Sainsburys as only one in stash now. Have some bars of soap in cupboard but don't fancy using those as I prefer liquid soap and showergel nowadays. Might give them to my Mum.0

I've another UU to report - Sanctuary Mandelular Body Souffle 50ml WIBA - no although it is a good moisturiser I wasn't keen on the scent, I've also got more of it to use in my stash - I'll get through it eventually!Always be yourself, unless you can be a Unicorn - then always be a Unicorn !

I don't know of any moisturisers off the top of my head with spf.....but i have used Mac Prep and Prime, it's spf 50. But it is only a primer.
I'm pretty sure there are quite a few moisturisers with spf in it out there though.
Tbh i never really look into products with spf in them, do you think i should start? Like i said before my foundation has spf 15, and when i'm on holiday i use sun tan lotion on my face. I think more research is needed for me.0 -

I can't really recommend any products cause my skin is super dry!!
But if your wanting to set up a proper skincare routine and stick to it, it can be difficult. Be prepared for a lot of trial and errors before you find something that works.
Personally i use face wash and moisturiser twice a day (sometimes toner if i remember/can be bothered) a scrub and a face mask once a week (not on the same day though, try to keep them about 3/4 days apart if i can. And i use a pore strip on my nose the same day i use a face mask.
I have only found a moisturiser that i would class as my HG one so far, Clinique's dramatically different lotion. Everything else is still hit or miss just now.0 -
I can hardly keep up with this thread!:) have been busy trying to use up the half empty ones and feel like i'm making progress:T
well done to everyone else who is resisting buying and UU their stashes:beer:
UU
Nivea crème-WIBA? it's been open for about 2 and a half years now and smelt a but funny and the texture was weird so I had to throw it awayquite thick and not easy to rub in, much prefer nivea soft so no.
Neutrogena body lotion-WIBA? maybe, this was okay when I first got but abandonded it for some reason. Felt quite sticky so used up the last of it by adding sugar and using as a scrubby scrub:D
avon moisture face washx2- WIBA? no, didn't leave my face clean, discontinued so filled up the handwash with it:)
1 nivea pearl deodorant mini-WIBA?no as the 'pearls' are made of talc so lovely white marks everywhere. but smelt quite nice.
Avon celloshine treatment-WIBA? no, discontinued, made my hair heavy and greasy and as shiny as a cello. Assuming cellos aren't shiny:rotfl:
Body shop born lippy-WIBA? yes, only £2, smell nice and moisturising but have another 10 lipbalms to finish first:eek:
Nivea soft-WIBA? yes, great multipurpose handcream, nicer than nivea creme, smells nice and absorbed quickly.
Avon dry oil body spray-WIBA? yes, not greasy, for when I don't have time for body butter as I can wear clothes straight after.
Soap and glory peaches and clean-WIBA? yes but I got it for £1.50 in boots when it must have been discontinued:( smells lovely and just scrubby enough and the packaging is gorgeous.
Avon pearl scrub-WIBA?yes, but you guessed it, discontinued. Great everyday scrub, reasonable price.
Dove conditioner-WIBA? nope, nothing special.
Charles Worthington heat defence spray- wiba? no, preder toni and guy but still have another in stash:(
Sainsbury’s cherry almond shampoo- WIBA? yes. everything else is making my hair feel so greasy since pantene:mad: and this got it clean! cheaper than HE and smells nicer too:D
feeling pleased with all the UU:A
although...my mum did buy me 2 body sprays as I have run out and can't afford to replace perfumes atm. Also have to use up the horrid glow by JLo. Smells awful and lasts the whole day:( and have love at first glow which isn't much better:eek: and she bought 2 packs of wipes because they were 2 for 60p in wilkinsons but only use them for cleaning now as they weren't good for my skin.
I agree with the rose candle but with my expensive perfumes I don't use them everyday because they would just become 'everyday' perfumes and wouldn't feel special. I use them when I go out or I am not looking forward to the day ahead. But otherwise using my benefit thrrrob everyday as it's looks really nice on and will last forever:D
also given a few bits to charity and cleared up the junk in the bathroom so it looks a lot more organised. Recycling bin is full of empty bottles now:j
sorry for the really long post but have a good week everybody
