  • New(ish) place in Lincoln (and a few in the local area) called MOTmax (it's on the net).

Don't do any repairs, so have no vested interests in failing. They claim an average 85% (I think) pass rate, as opposed to 61% (I think) elsewhere - so work in a similar way to local authority test centres.

Just had my new (old from ebay) Volvo done there. On the VOSA website the previous MoTs had thrown up a catalogue of little (but obviously repairable by the garage) faults. At MOTmax it passed with no faults.

And any retest is free for about ten days.

Just been to Wakefield Council, cost £50.35, and flew through, luckily I remembered to swop exhausts before the MOT :D , and will have to swap the exhausts back again tonight.
  • Just been to Birmingham Council and passed no problems. Everything was easy from the booking, checking in etc.
Has to be the best customer service I've received from a motor place in a long while too, probably because they are every day council guys who have never been on any "customer service" training in their life.

The tester did ask me how I got their details as he said they are getting more and more private vehicles nowadays. He said it wasn't a problem, was just curious, and agreed that they have no other motive then to do just do an MOT as per the rules as they've got nothing to gain from finding things.

Ivybridge MOT Centre is a completely independent test station, no repairs are carried out so an unbiased view of your vehicle is carried out. Over 2000 tests a year are carried out including class VII (vans up to 3.5 tons) and motorhomes.Free retest if the vehicle is returned within 14 days.

Class 4 tests (cars and motorhomes) £48
    Class 7 tests (vans between 3 and 3.5tons) £56.75

Last year I took my car to Arundale dealer where I bought my car for it's first MOT and surprise, surprise if fails. It does sound cheap (MOT £29.99) but a costly mistake as I was charged with £60 for repairs. I would never go back there and even looking at having my car service elsewhere.

This year I went to MOT SHOP in York for the first time and had an excellent service and my car pass its MOT without any problems. £45 for class 4 test. It didn't even last more than 30 minutes. I would highly recommend them.

My MOT is due soon and I'm going to take it to a council test centre. However, I usually have it serviced at the same time, so my question is, should I have it serviced by a different garage first, or get the MOT done and then I could combine any repairs needed if it fails with the service?
    Thanks!

It now costs £45 for a test at the Worcester branch. I don't know if it gone up at the others? (Previous posts said in cost them £35 at Worcester).
  • Hi,

My local Ford garage is charging £53 for MOTs. I noticed on the MOT advice that the maximum cost should only be £50.53. I know its only £3 but I'd rather it was in my pocket. If Ford won't give me my money back, who should I complain to?

    Thanks

Don't give them your custom in the first place, go to another MOT test station and then you will not need to complain to anyone!
