I've tried many times over 2 weeks to ring the council test centre in Milton Keynes but they never answer. I'm giving up and going with a normal garage.
  • I rang MK testing station ay 5 and got through no problem
  • Its already been mentioned on this thread but I thought it worth doing so again:

Just returned from taking my old Renault to this fine establishment for her annual MOT. Excellent service offered - friendly and efficient staff and speedy testing service.

Don't forget new Partial Retest rules (as of 11/9/06), where you can take car away to do repairs yourself or elsewhere & get partial retest within 10 working days at half price.

There is a new rule regarding MOT Retests as of 11/9/06.

    http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/newsandevents/pressreleases/2006pressreleases/01-09-06motlaunchnewre-testprocedures.htm

This should save people money & give them flexibility to do repairs themselves or get done elsewhere !!

You can take car away to get repairs done &
only a partial re-examination is required within 10 working days at
    half MOT cost.

"If the vehicle does not qualify for a re-test as listed in 1) or 2) above, and is brought back to the same Testing Station by the end of the tenth working day following the day of the initial test for retest, only a partial re-examination is required for which a maximum of half the full fee may be charged.

Previously, in this instance, a full re-examination of the vehicle was required for which a full fee was chargeable.
Only one partial re-examination is permissible per full examination."

    New retest procedure

    Hi
Just phoned Kent County Council and they have a MOT centre at Aylesford £50.35 tel number 01622 605800
    Anyone used them?
  • We always use a firm called "just MOTs" They charge less for cash and do just what it says on the tin. We havent had a car fail yet. They even sorted out minor failures ie bulbs and screenwash for free as it was less bother than having you back for a re-test.:T

hi everyone does anyone know of a council run mot centre in trafford or manchester thanks in advance have looked at te threads but cant find one thanks guys

Trafford's Transport Department used to be Higher Road Garage, Urmston (when I worked for Trafford). They moved to Carrington about 2002. Not sure where they are nowadays, give the switchboard a ring (0161 9121212) and ask to be put through to the transport department.

Hi - does anyone know if there is one? Thanks
  • Just thought I'd add my own experience to the thread: Had an emergency when it turned out the fast-fit place near to work which I was going to take my car for it's MOT didn't actually do MOT's! Searched the internet for other MOT stations close to where I work and fortunately came across the grid on Martin's site which mentioned Powys Council's own vehicle maintenance depot which just so happened to be at the other end of the industrial estate on which I work in Brecon! They managed to squeeze me in within a week, the guy running it drove me in my own car back to my place of work (OK so I could've walked it in five minutes but hey...) and of course, hey presto, it passed the MOT! The only issued raised was a slightly misaligned headlight but that was put right in the testing process.

Using this system is a great revelation and takes away that niggling feeling you always get when a car fails it's MOT, that just maybe you're being ripped off and there's not a lot you can do about it when you need an MOT. Anyway, phew!
