  • While I thank the OP for taking the time to post this thread with the codes, I am a bit upset that I may have missed out on getting a dvd (all currently out of stock) because of the mess-up with the emails, codes and several multiple orders from people.

It's certainly not the end of the world (I can afford to get a dvd if I want to!) but I just think it's a pretty poor show by a few people....... :(

Oh and before people ask, I read the independant, which is where I got the codes from......

  • I agree that those of us who didn't manage to get a free DVD have nothing to complain about. I didn't get the e-mail until this afternoon and tried soon afterwards but none left. Oh well, lets wait for the next freebie and hope we are quicker off the mark.
  • I only just picked my code up too, and unfortunately nothing left :-(

However, I am going to check on a daily basis in case they get any more in.

    Win some lose some :-)

Yeah, maybe you're right. I just find it personally frustrating because I work in sales promotion and if I ran my promos in such a shambolic way I'd expect to get a rocket up my bum (and I would as well). Any marketing professional knows that these days if you run a promotion based on collecting generic passwords (rather than dedicated individual codes) then they'll spread across the internet rapidly...

I think some peoples attitudes on here is disgraceful. Whining on and on about how they haven't got something that they haven't paid for from a paper that they have never readm let alone bought.
A freebie is a fantastic thing to receive and I know I enjoy getting them, but if I don't I dont, I don't sulk over it.
You should be thankful for what you have received.
More giving and less taking would make some people a lot happier and giving doesn't always have to cost anything.

Yes, but if someone says something is free, i.e offers it to you for free, then demands a price because they were ill prepared for the volume of participants, people are going to feel like they've been deceived. They were sold out within minutes of sending me the voucher !!!!!!.

In an ideal world, we would all be thankful for just being able to breathe air into our lungs, but it doesn't work like that does it?

As far as I am concerned, this promotion was a complete joke, and hasn't helped improve my opinion of play.com or the independent newspaper, which I'm sure is the opposite of their intention.
  • still no email received at all, dont think it will now somehow xxx

  • Like others, I accept the fact that this time the freebie was missed out on. Not to worry, there'll be others in the future - some you get and some you don't.

I would, however, like to refer people to the terms and conditions of the promotion:

    http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/film/article1933956.ece

    and particularly...

    3. Only one free DVD redemption per household.

i think its 1st come first serve basic, and they are sending codes becase their system hasent been upgraded yet. i got two of them i wanted for.

    4. Subject to availability. In the event of excess demand for any given title you may be required to select an alternative DVD.

I'll have the Superman Returns 2-disc then please... :p

No mention of not receiving one at all if stocks run out (so if Play EVER has "A Very Long Engagement" back in stock then I expect to receive a copy).

    5. No purchase necessary.

which means it's irrelevant whether promotion entrants are Independent readers / purchasers, they are equally entitled to enter the promotion and expect to receive the free dvd (should they be allocated a voucher).

So while there's little benefit in making a huge scene over this, those who've missed out are quite justified in their disbelief, anger and frustration.

Well, they are letting us select an alternative DVD (very long engagement), so they are complying I suppose...

haven't read the whole thread but they sent me a duff code then the new one said it couldnt be used on that item (the only one left was long engagement) if the 1st one had worked i'd have had a choice of them all. disappointed as i use the freebies for fundraising at charity coffee mornings. must admit it has put me off ordering from them for christmas which i was gonna do come payday!!
