This is really disappointing. I've only just logged in having been out for the afternoon. The email came through at 3.28pm, I try to use it just 2 hours later to find there's zilch! I have ordered A Very Long Engagement as it is still showing but also states out of stock so unlikely to be fulfilled.

What a bummer and a sham! Boooo.

Yeah same here, email arrived at 3:19pm, just arrived back from work to find only one DVD available, which is Out of Stock.

    Disappointed.:(

I agree with some of the other posters, it's probably this thread that has caused them to run out so quickly... come on guys, who actually reads the Independant and got this code legit? I certainly didn't, I got it from here like a lot of other people.

I think some of you should stop whinging, it's a free DVD, most of them only cost £5.99 anyway. You win some and you lose some! :)
  • Only people who bought 'THE INDEPENDENT' have any right to complain (but I do agree that too many complaints will lead them to investigate this site!)

So think carefully before you do anything.....

I wasn't lucky enough to get any dvd - but I have had other 'freebies' thanks to this site.....

The next freebie will be just around the corner!!XX

    STAY HAPPY ALL!!XX

Come on, people. It's a free gift - you don't have a right to it. It's nice if you get it, but it's not your right and there's no reason to get so worked up about it. An email to the Independent? What on earth would that achieve? No doubt it would bring to their attention the fact that the codes were posted on this website (which I doubt they'd be happy about) and, if anything, it'd just serve to put them off doing future similar offers. I suspect that half the people getting annoyed about their codes not working didn't even buy the Independent - they just got the codes from this thread, so there's nothing to be getting indignant over!! Calm down, everyone.

For those of us who end up with nothing I think we should write en masse to The Independent and ask them to reveal exactly how many of these DVDs were actually available in this promotion. If it really was only 100 of each that's nowhere near enough, and would definitely be an issue for the ASA...
Only those that have purchased at least three copies of The Independent have a right to do that. Complaining to the ASA will simply result in an investigation that will get the likes of MSE and other other bargain websites in trouble. Think about it rationally before doing something in anger.

I think Martin Lewis should contact the Independent to ask why Play.com messed up the voucher e-mail and left so many people unable to claim their free DVD.

As has been said by posters since, that's a really stupid idea which would just draw bad attention to MSE - most of the people who are whining here and no doubt on other freebie sites have probably never read the Indie in their lives.

If you do read the paper, then got a code and had no luck then I probably would say something - though they have covered themselves on that as I posted before.

It's a freebie - you may get it, you may not - if you don't just get over it and move on. :)

Looks like I should have been quicker off the mark. No worries.
Think of happiness as a kind of mental gardening.
  • You can still order one DVD, "A Very Long Engagement" even though it is out of stock, Play.com are usually very quick with re-stocking and so I don't really mind a short wait for a free DVD. Also noticed the DVD was in the "3 for £15" section, so I selected 2 more films priced at £5.99 each which brought the total to £15, and then when I entered the voucher at the checkout the total was only charged £10, so I saved £1.98, bargain :)
