Vodafone complaints

When I turned on my mobile earlier this week I found I had 3 voicemail messages. On ringing voicemail I was met with vodafone asking me to take part in a marketing survey. I should either press 1 for Yes (or speak the word Yes), or 2 for No (or speak the word No). I tried 4 times both speaking and pressing 2 for No, but Vodafone would not accept No for an answer. Instead they kept replaying the introduction to the marketing survey. After trying to decline 4 times I was informed by Vodafone that all my credit had been used and I could make no further calls. I was also refused access to the other 2 messages until I had completed the Vodafone marketing survey at my own cost.
I do not have the funds to pay for the bombardment of marketing surveys that Vodafone are insisting I pay for as a pay-as-you-go customer and I am very upset that they left me with no means to contact anyone.
Measures must be put in place to ensure mobile phone companies are not allowed to defraud their pay-as-you-go customers in this way.0 -
Hi noBS,
I'm sorry to hear the difficulties you've come across here.
If you'd like me to help you further could you email me with your details via the link in our profile here?
All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it'll take you to the Contact us form on our website. To make sure it reaches me could you also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line?
Once sent you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. Could you update the thread with this and I'll get back to you as soon as possible?
Kind regards,
Lee

I have been having trouble with my freedom freebies from vodaphone for the last 12 months, i phone every month to try to get the freebie back on as it goes off, i phone sometimes twice a month, each time im told something different as to why there is a problem with them the last person i spoke to was rude and put the phone down i am again awauting a phone call from a manager, part of the problem i have found is that my complaints have not been logged down ove the past 12 months, ive wrote letters to vodaphone but no joy, each time my freebie mess's up i have to go to the hole in the wall to top it up so i can "RING" vodaphone as it costs 25p so i have to put more money on than i can afford, ive tried ringing them lots of times to be told that they are having an emergancy and come to the phone??? all in all im a very unhappy customer that wants to go onto contract but im reluctant to give vodaphone any more of my hard earned cash..0

Im also still awaiting a call from a manager that was 2 weeks ago, after being told by one vodaphone customer service staff that i was a priotity then to be told by another when ive rung back a week later to be told that there was no such priority system??? like i say 12 months : ( been having problems0

It would seem that as usual Vodafone have moved the 'goal posts'
I am currently on a monthly tariff that allows/promotes unlimited text messaging!
It could be argued therefore that it does not or should not matter how many characters are contained within the message or messages.
This is not the case as an unlimited message tariff still only allows you to send text messages of a maximum 160 characters! If you send more than this it is classed as an MMS and Vodafone charge me extra for this (suprise suprise)
Now some may say that 160 is a lot of characters but a space is classed as a character!
I have asked Vodafone to consent to me sending the occasional text that contains more than 160 characters to be included within my tariff, but I get the stock reply of that is how things are charged so tough.
Could someone from Vodafone world (were rules are enforced so tough) and customers are treated as if they were mere inconveniences look into this.
If you sign up to an unlimited text tariff what difference does it make if the text is 160 characters long or 1600 characters long .
Please Vodafone company representative could you look through the round window and not the square window (Miss Rosaline did and everything was always great) and sort out this anomaly.
Yes I have emailed and telephoned Vodafone re this issue and got nowhere fast thus this post.

The maxiumum number of characters which can be sent through the short messaging service is 160 characters, anything larger has to go through the internet and is sent as an MMS.
This is the same for all networks worldwide.
If you want to sent an SMS which is longer than 160 characters, it will have to be sent as two or even three messages.0 -
Hi Ann S, thanks for the feedback and information. I do understand now that 160 characters is the limit for a single SMS and adding more characters would mean the SMS would be seen as two or three SMS by Vodafone. My issue again is that if I compose an SMS that is seen by Vodafone as a 'long message' I am charged extra for this. Having taken out a monthly tariff that includes unlimited text messaging what difference should it make to Vodafone if the message is a 'long message'. Thanks glenngill350

Hello glenngill35
The problem here is going to be that an SMS message automatically converts to an MMS on all networks when it is over the 160 character limit.
Could you not send the message in separate parts when you reach the maximum number of characters ? It may be inconvenient, but at least it would stop you incurring extra charges and you would be able to take full advantage of the unlimited texts.0 -

Ignoring special cases, some handsets will convert SMS over 160 characters to MMS, others will split them in to (IIRC) messages of 142 characters, with the remainder being details of how the message should be reassembled at the other end.
This is a handset issue and happens on all networks.
What handset are you using?
Some handsets will also send SMS as MMS if you're sending the message to more than one recipient. And if you send messages which contain 'unusual' characters the message limit is reduced to 140 characters.0
