When I first started working for Marko many moons ago (was taken on as part of the seasonal cohort) I was waiting behind the checkouts with 3 others, all in spanking new uniform, waiting for our T/L to train us (she was serving a customer).
Another customer came up to ask a question, and just before I could reply "I'm sorry, I've just started today but let me ask someone who can help", the numpty standing next to me got in first with "I haven't got a clue".
Some people just haven't got the first idea about customer service.0 -

Yes, but it is clearly on your mind now.
Let's not forget, customer service expectations aside, these members of staff are also human beings, each trying their best to cope with working in a stressful environment on one of the busiest days of the year, also with their own personal /emotional stresses to cope with as well. You've no idea what was going through the guy's mind at the time - he could have been dealing with any number of issues (job security, finances, relationships, bereavement) that would make your lack of vol-au-vent cases pale into insignificance!

If he is at work then he should be doing the job properly. Many people have issues on their minds such as job security etc but you leave that at home and do your job properly - you dont use it as an excuse to be rude. If you can't be civil then you dont deserve the job in the first place.
The OP had every right to expect a certain level of service. She has chosen to spend her hard earned cash in that store and should be treated with politeness.0 -
I think its a sign of the times. I get annoyed when I ask where something is in the supermarket and rather than being escorted personally to the item by the shop assistant, I get a brief oh thats in aisle ??, over there... (virtual picture of shop assistant pointing) now that doesn't help me - I'm in a rush - i don't have the time to faff looking - can't you please just take me to /give me the item. I also find that a lot of supermarkets even the small metro that I (used) to visit quite a lot have staff members who look after only certain aisles so woe betide you ask the lady in the milk aisle where you might find the chocolate biscuits ?
I also don't think that the lack of customer care is down to the younger employees who perhaps only work one day a week and/or who haven't had proper training / can't be bothered*. The metro store I mention above has staff who (according) to their badges have worked for the supermarket for many many years yet their attitude on occasions, stinks - their customer service is worse than useless and has been for as long as I have shopped there (apart from the lovely lady who is on the checkouts in the morning and always has a cheery good morning for you) * I dont mean any disrespect to the younger generation by my comment here - i speak from personal experience, my brother worked for somerfield and hated it. When they got taken over by another supermarket, he regretted complaining about somerfield so much - his new employers kept telling him off for not smiling amongst other things :rotfl: !
There is also someone on the checkouts at m&$ who clearly thinks I don't fit the m&$ preferred customer and cannot hide her distain for me when she has had occasion to serve me. I avoid her checkout now and this lady must be in her elder years....
as an aside A work colleague visited a well known pizza restaurant several months ago and the restaurant was disgusting - food on the floor near the salad bar - tables not cleared, yet plenty of people waiting to be seated / the salad bar itself a complete mess.
when she pointed this out to a member of staff, said member of staff simply shrugged their shoulders ?? I think my friend (who is never short of something to say) was lost for words :rotfl:
I think you shouldn't have had to wait so long for the manager and I think it would have been a nice touch if the item had been given to you for free. Sadly there are very few occasions now when you can walk out of a shop feeling on cloud nine having been given customer service above and beyond what you were expecting. Sadly the supermarkets play such an integral part of our lives that they feel they can treat us as they please because as we leave the store, no doubt six more of us are trotting in.0 -
Perhaps if you had gone in to buy your vol au vent cases at the beginning of december, instead of the day before xmas eve, you may have been taken to said product with a cheery smile and a thank you for shopping at morrisons.
Instead you more than likely asked a person who was already helping 2 other people out, who cannot find things and also has the manager screaming at him, that the bread is running low and you need to brush up the isle, then help out joe on the freezer section, before you go and fill up the sprouts which dissapeared within 30 seconds of previously being filled up.
You dont know what he had on at that time, possibly he didnt even work on the shop floor anyway.
Perhaps, he could have answered you in a different way, like ' sorry i do not know, but have you tried the freezer section?' but everyone is different, that is what makes us unique.
The only way you would achieve ' nirvana' in your shopping at xmas is that the store takes on 100 more staff to act as customer helpers, but everyone would complain that the prices have gone up, in order to pay their wages. you're dammed if you do, dammed if you dont.
I feel that as long as the shelves are kept full, i dont need to ask for help. It is when they are empty and staff are standing around chatting, then that is the time to complain0 -
so, you actually want free vol-au-vent cases because you waited 30 mins for them and a staff member was rude to you..................hhhmmmWow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

No. I've already said, free food wasn't what I wanted. I would have been happy with an apology. Or maybe to be treated with respect in the first place.0 -
Let it go!
Life's too short to get so upset about it.
If you can't do that why not write a letter of complaint to the head office and then forget it. If you get a pleasant apologetic reply you will feel good, but if you hear nothing more then that's OK too.Learn to listen. Opportunity sometimes knocks very softly!:)0 -
