Am I Making A Fuss About Nothing? Opinions Please.

The day before Christmas Eve I went to Morrisons to do my Christmas shop. After searching high and low for Vol-au-vent cases, I spotted a member of staff walking towards me. I politely asked "Do you sell Vol-au-vent cases?" The man looked at me and muttered "dunno", and marched off. I was really shocked and angry. Aren't the staff supposed to help if asked? Isn't it their job to find out if they stock an item, if the item is asked for? I carried on shopping. But the more I thought about it, the more annoyed I was getting. So after finishing at the check out, I decided to talk to customer services about it. The lady on customer services said "I'll have to call the manager" I waited and waited for the manager, with the customer services lady telling me every few minutes that the manager is on his way.
Thirty minutes later, the manager finally showed his face. I explained what had happened. The manager agreed that the member of staff was very rude. He asked me what he looked like and said he would look on the CCTV camera and find out who it was. He then asked me if I still wanted the Vol-au-vent cases. I said I did. The manager disappeared , and then came back with the cases. He plonked them down on the customer service desk and said "Pay for them here" before moving onto another customer waiting. I just stood there totally shocked. My partner made me leave the store as he wasn't happy about waiting around for half hour. When I got home I was still fuming. So I decided to phone Morrison's head office. I was given a ref number, and promised someone would get back to me. Now if you have managed to stay the distance with this thread. What are your thought? Am I making a fuss about nothing? My family are laughing at me for taking it so far. But I feel it's one of those things were you had to be there. Surely the manager could at least have let me have the cases for nothing? Especially after waiting 30 minutes for him to even grace us with his presence. Anyway, getting things for free wasn't my reason for taking it further. It was the total lack of respect that made me so angry. I'm really sorry for the long rant. Surprisingly I feel a lot better lol. Happy New Year everyone.

I think you're making a fuss over nothing, and completely in the wrong for expecting free food in return for surly behaviour from a member of staff. In the manager's position I would have offered nothing more than an apology, a commitment to better staff training and retrieving the item for you, as he did.

As I said in my post. Free food wasn't on my mind when I complained. I would have been more than happy with an apology. But I recieved no apology from anyone. The manager agreed his member of staff was rude. But there was no opology for it at all. There was a couldn't care less attitude from everyone I spoke too.
Thank you for your opinion though.

When I worked for Sainsbury's as a T/L,I had a lady come up to me looking for Atora Suet.I helped her look for the item then went back to the stores to see if we had any.I discovered that Atora Suet had been,stupidly,de-listed from stock for the store.I was able to tell the lady this &,unfortunatly, she went to Tesco over the road to get it.
Subsequently we had a few enquiries for Atora Suet as it was near Christmas & I gather it's a vital ingredient in pud's ect at Christmas.
Because of this lady,I was able to find out something no one new about, inform the store manager & correct the fo-par.

The OP shouldn't have been treated like she was & I like to think I treat went the extra mile for the lady I helped.I could very easily have told here,no we dont have it..

To be honest, you went shopping on one of the busiest days of the year, so I would expect staff to be pretty busy, possibly temps only working over Christmas and in fairness (however rude) he did answer your question at least. I think you compounded you annoyance by insisting on seeing the manager which was a little OTT considering that the behaviour of staff on that day isn't necessarily indicative of their attitude in general. It might have been a minor annoyance on the day, but you seem to be winding yourself up by going over it in your head which is probably making it feel like a bigger deal to you than it really needs to be.

I didn't actually ask for the manager. The customer service lady told me she had to call him. But I do take your point about going over it in my head. It is prob winding me up more. I'm not usually one for complaining. :D

Personally I wouldn't have bothered complaining at all.

If he has sworn at you or insulted you then maybe but a plan "dunno" is really no big deal. He could have been nicer I guess but if he honestly did not know then there would really have been little else he could say.
I know someone who works for a superstore ( in the warehouse) but goes shopping there after their shift in the uniform, they often get asked for help but don't have a clue where things are. They then have to spend time explaining that they work for the store but not at the store and all this takes time which maybe this guy did not have at xmas ?

Not saying that is the case but it could have been.

I would of just let it go as I know there are lots of temporary staff in shops over christmas and I honestly don't expect the same level of service from temps as the permanent staff, I'd of been too busy to hang around waiting for a manager ..
