Crazy 2011 clothes challenge

Hi Lula,
Can I join too? I got quite into charity shops and bargain-hunting last year and would love to hear other people's tips. I'll set my limit at £365 (a nice, round pound a day) for the year, including accessories but excluding shoes cos I have dodgy feet and have to buy what fits.
My spends so far are zero. I got lots of tights and undies for Christmas and got 2 free jumpers, two pairs of socks and a pair of gloves for free today.
My first challenge will be what to wear to in a funeral in a few day's time. I have a smart grey pencil skirt I've never worn, was thinking of wearing it with a smart black top, black trench coat, black shoes and tights - does that sound ok? What do you do about handbags? All mine are crazy bright colours as I hate boring, black bags. Maybe I'll see whether I can borrow one.

PS Rosa, your boots sound amazing. Enjoy! I banned myself from black ones too, dark brown looks much classier. I live in mine as well. I also have the skinny leg problem which makes some boots look like wellies on me! What brand are they?Save 12k in 2012: 0/12,000

Hi Sorting it out,
I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but cannot believe that it could involve only 3 pairs of shoes .
Thanks for the welcome Lula-Hula and I know 3 pairs of shoes is VERY SAD but since having ops on my feet I can only wear flat shoes. Believe you me this is no fun, I miss my heels and feel like a frump all the time. No matter how pretty your flats are they just dont have the same effect on your legs and bum!! Heels are sexy - flats are not.
Still, at least it means I spend less on shoes. :rotfl:Pay off as much as I can in 2012.

:DHi Rosa
The boots sound fab - and I love the justification tooSometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56Weightloss : 0/34lbs0 -
Rosa - the boots sound amazing, and they sound like you were supposed to adopt them, so feel proud that you're going to love them till the end of their days, if you'd left them behind they could've got one of those terrible shoppers who buy them then leave them in the cupboard for months <hangs head in shame>
Southern Sadie - the outfit sounds nice, and I've never found a non colourful bag being a problem at a funeral. I guess it depends whose it is? Lucky you on all the clothes gifts
Sorting - I know the feeling, since having my son I can't wear heels at all, so tend to either look very sensible or punk<ish> in a pair of Docs. Even with a dress! But at least they last forever~Nym~

Beautiful boots are Italian made but don't have a specific brand on - they were from a boutique type place who stock some brands and some 'own label' bought directly from the factory. (I can PM you the link if you like.) I did hear that Italian boots are generally narrower cut, can't remember who from, and I do seem to have done better with the Italian makes than others. Unfortunately they are also more expensive... but I'd rather have less pairs of perfectly fitting more fabulous boots.
I gave up on heels out of choice - I never did learn to walk in them properly and it winds me up not being able to run for a bus or walk up stairs. I'm sure Shoe Gal and others are shaking their heads and sighing that I've missed the point!
I have been very good and polished my plain riding boots, they were in dire need of it after trudging through snow etc. Now off to do some ironing and try on work outfits to see which look good with new boots

Sadie - if the rest of your outfit is very plain, maybe you could use a coloured bag and accessories without it looking too much?

Hi everyone & welcome to our latest recruits :
Birdie85, little_h & Southern Sadie :hello:
Rosa Bernicia - the boots sound fabI have over the knee boots & I do wear them to work but only under trousers at the moment as I'm not that confident yet.
Southern Sadie - the outfit sounds ideal for the purpose & I like your thought process of £1 a day
Sorting it out - sorry to hear about your op, & if you're the lovely lady who sold her Faith brown ankle strap platform sandals on ebay ..... then I can assure you they have a good home here
I'm at work for the rest of the week now so no chance of any sneaky shopping trips & am determined not to buy anything until I hit my target size/weight. (sometimes my determination does wander off on its own though).
I'm off to peruse diaries now so bye for now

:)Thanks for the welcome.
Rosa - my best boots are Italian-made too, I agree they do seem to be cut narrower. Another one here who can't wear heels (due to a foot injury years ago) but I don't mind as long as I can wear lovely leather boots...Save 12k in 2012: 0/12,000

Hi and thanks so much for setting this challenge up - it's given me just the push I need to tackle my clothes spending habit!
For the first couple of years on our DMP I bought hardly any clothes but have definitely fallen off the wagon this year (and with that my Blackberry beeps and a 'Banana Republic Sale' email appears!) Biggest temptation has been the Next online account. I bought my son's school uniform online from them and paid it off in full immediately but didn't know they automatically opened a credit account - which of course I was then tempted to use - I can make the payments but that's not really the point! Going to budget £500 because if I set it too low I won't make it but going to make an additional promise that I won't use the Next account.LBM August 2007Amount Owed £101,068.35Amount Owed March 2012 £13,449.16DFD October 20130
