  • Evening.

It's been another long day at my house. I woke up to feed the baby at 6 and DH had already gone to work. I don't know if he had to or he had just woken up early. He was actually talking about changing jobs last night for one with more regular hours as he is fed up of missing out on things with Charlie.

I managed to eat breakfast in peace, and get a load of washing on. I also wanted to get the BM on but it looks like the paddle has been thrown out. Hopefully it is only in the outside bin, and not in last weeks rubbish. I can't remember when i chucked the loaf out. Does anyone know if you can order one for a morphy richards fastbake model? It's carp if you can't, cos i bet loads of people do that accidentally.

Then baby was changed several times before my friend visited due to being sicky. The washing/ironing is going so quickly that if you blink you may miss it.

I've then done very little in terms of OS. It's pizza for tea, and then i'll probably be at my mums tomorrow, helping do a flylady boogie on the toys that my sisters have got there so they are all clean and organised before the christmas changeover. I have a feeling some will be for the bin.

Just wanted to say, a big congratulations to churchmouse and family.

Also, Vicky, glad to hear you have a solution to your problems. I'd think hard about doing the supply work at your current school as they will probably expect you to do far more than someone else on supply. Plus, it all depends on the terms. Would you still be with your class? If so, not really taking away all your problems.

Anyway, going to go and put last nights washing up away before DH comes in and thinks i've been sat on my bum all day. Wouldn't want him to think that. ;):D

    Hugs,
    Michelle. xx

Blairweech - Sorry if I missed this, but why are you typing out your cookbooks?

    It's alright, you haven't missed anything! :)

Because I'm cheap, I borrow cook books from the library, type the recipes up on my compy, then print them out and add them to my ever-growing repetoire, to save me buying the books. Yes, I know, its very naughty and I shouldn't moan beause I choose to do it. :shhh:

I should add, if its a really good cookbook that I know I'll use loads, I will buy it - like Nigella or Delia. I'm very tempted to buy James Martins book, if only to look at the pictures of him! :rotfl:

    Evening everyone :hello:

I've got some good news! I've won on the Euromillions! :j :j :j Yes, I won £6.40! I've put the cash into our travelling account. Every little helps! (to quote a major supermarket :D)

I'm having a major crisis over what to tell the children in the class about me not turning up after next Wednesday. I got a lovely letter today from a member of the class saying that she was "so pleased" to have me as a teacher and I'm "the best teacher in the world". It was just lovely as I know that she doesn't like most teachers and she has had major problems with her past two.

We're having a veggie lasagne for supper. It's a Good Food recipe, which I seem to have adapted over the few times that I've made it - there are now more veggies in it :D. DH doesn't like courgettes or aubergines, but there are plenty in it! :D :rotfl: He doesn't mind them when they're "hidden". Surely that's what people do with fussy children :D.

I'm writing a list for the jobs that I need to do once I've finished work. It seems to be getting longer and longer, so I might need a kick up the behind a week on Thursday!

    Bye for now

ok.. i haven't read everyone else's yet but i will..

I've spent the day wading through the meal planning and recipe threads and got lots of ideas for my shopping trip tomorrow, but for now..

i feel *really* good right now, a good little OSer! I had to do some thighs in BBQ sauce, roasted, in the oven, so i thought, i'll do those, put the chilli from last night (needs reheating) in the oven too, rather than nuke it, then do the rice later... oh and pudding.. ended up doing 2 puds - rice pud for me (OH calls it maggots and refuses to touch it) and baked apples (just cored, filled with brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins) for him.

    aren't i good!!!

i also inventoried my kitchen/freezer earlier. I had no idea i had so much stuff in there. So I'm gonna try to use up some of what i've got first. the freezer in particular is a place where things go to die... some of it has been in there 2 years so that stuff i think i'll be chucking out.. lol..

i've also come up with a budget/spreadsheet thingie like Martins. Can't use Martins cos our puter doesn't use windozs.. uses Linux (and Open Office, both of which are free!) and Open Office doesn't like the macros in the excel version of Martin's spreadsheet. So i made my own instead. its got all sorts in it.. right down to the gas meter readings which i'll be doing every week from now on (and i found out where to convert gas meter readings into hard ££, takes some maths but the spreadsheet automates that so i'll be able to keep a much closer eye on the gas expenditure and not live in fear of the gas bill arriving every 3 months.)

*chuffs her fingernails on her coat and gleams, all proud as punch with herself*

    oh lord!!!

hmmm.. the version i made isn't like Martins in the sense of handy dandy buttons n all.. i figured that since i was the only person using it it didn't need to necessarily make sense to anyone else.. LOL.. just to me! what i did was to use the online version as a starting point. A lot of whats in there doesn't apply to me (as i'm a tenant, for example, and in receipt of housing benefit, so i don't worry about housing costs at all), so i noted down what *does* apply then tried to figure out a way that would work for me.

[btw, assuming you know here how Open Office operates, its beyond the scope of this thing to give you a full lesson in that!]

for example, i did an income sheet with income every 2 weeks, (which for us, is incapacity benefit and income support) and gifts/money from ebay sales etc. to give an income figure every 2 weeks. Then i did an expenditure sheet with my regular, fixed outgoings, for 2 weeks, and another expenditure sheet with my unfixed outgoings (i.e. food). I have 2 columns - the budget, and actual spend in both fixed and unfixed outgoings. in all the columns i've totalled sections to give me a good idea of what i'm spending, where. For example, i've broken down the dog's expenditure by shop, but i've totalled the expenditure i do spend on her, then that total becomes a part of the total unfixed expenditure. Does that make sense?

then at the beginning of all the sheets i copy the "incoming" and "total fixed expenditure" and "total unfixed expenditure" and work out the difference.. again, i do this for budget and actual. Any left over goes into savings. the challenge is to make this reflect reality, note down all and any expenditure into a small notepad and make sure the bank account reflects it too! I have a sheet for the bank account ins n outs (i.e. when i take money out the ATM i note it on there) so i can keep a track of when direct debits and standing orders are due too. I have a seperate account i can use for savings, and a large unused coffee mug here i fill with small change.

n thats it, really... it takes some work but its well worth doing. ITs basically about having a seperate sheet within the overall file for each "section" and breaking it down in a way that works for you and the way you shop.

hope that helps - if you need more info, feel free to pm me!
