Binnie ~ you may be able to claim working tax credits, if you work 18 (i thinks its 18 might be 16 ) hours per week...If you can claim this you can also claim quite a few other benefits. hthEveryday im shufflin' Proud Padder ~ All Hail The Power of Pad0

binnie, do you really need a business account on eBay? Are you selling new stuff or re-selling things? Can't you just sell your own bits in a personal account? I kind of feel that you would be better off with the benefit that relying on eBay for the time being, unless you do get a regular income from it. A profit of £448 after fees is only £38 a month, and the £65 a week just makes sense. Check online if there is any chance that you could get any other benefits or reliefs whilst you find a new job. I know there is a way to pay NI directly, like some people living abroad, but not sure how, sorry
Hi, Yes I need to have a business account as I sell brand new handbags. I have another account for selling household stuff like my clothes etc.
Someone grassed me up for doing Ebay in 2009 so the Inland revenue know.
I know I don't make a lot of money out of it as it was really just to top my day job wage up. But I can't stop it and wait 5 weeks for a claim to go through, I need money urgently.
Also I have plenty of stock to sell yet.
My husband works and we have no kids so I deffo can't get any benefits. It's all our fault that we are in this mess.
Anyway will go and check to see what else I can sell.

hi everyone please can someone give me some advice i have sold my very first items on ebay i did not give collect in person as an option due to shift work and i live on my own with 2 young children so worry about safety, but now a buyer has asked for my address to collect the items they are only 2 little girls dresses and i did give a postage discount, they say they live in the area i live which is london but the postage address is for clacton on sea what should i do as it is my first sell and i want it to go right thank youin advance for any suggestions0

Have they paid you yet gameshow?0

Gameshow - I think that if you did not give 'collection' available on this sale then they can't expect it. I put everything to post as it's better to err on the safe side and mail as much as possible and can be very inconvenient to have to wait around for someone to show up (as i have for Gumtree items - where I post big things).
If the buyer was planning on picking it up they should have contacted you in advance to see if it was ok.
Just my 2 cents.!!!!!! Make Me Rich This Year eBay & Gumtree

I've had a few people round at my house to collect things, but unless they were heavy items, I am not keen. Suppose I don't want everybody knowing my business and rooting through my other stuff like what lady wanted to do.0

Honestly, do not assume that because you have no kids and married you are not entitled to anything. I was in a similar situation a few months back and I could have had around £300 a month. I did not need to do it at the end, since I found a job and so on, but I was surprised I could qualify for so much since we have no kids, we rent and he had a job. Try and see, in the long run it will be much better than stress out about sales on eBay. Specially since profit for a full year on eBay might be the same as help for 2 or 3 months from benefits. You will be losing out a lot.gameshow67 wrote: »hi everyone please can someone give me some advice i have sold my very first items on ebay i did not give collect in person as an option due to shift work and i live on my own with 2 young children so worry about safety, but now a buyer has asked for my address to collect the items they are only 2 little girls dresses and i did give a postage discount, they say they live in the area i live which is london but the postage address is for clacton on sea what should i do as it is my first sell and i want it to go right thank youin advance for any suggestions
I would not let them come round. They won the bid with postage, they should have contacted you. If they have paid already and you feel comfortable, you could meet somewhere in a public place, but I would not give my address unless unavoidable. The petrol to your place will probably cost more than the postage.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Gameshow ~ If you didn't offer pick up and the buyer didn't ask before bidding, then you dont have to do it, especially if its making you feel uncomfortable.
I would reply with something simple along the lines of~
Hi, Thank you for bidding on my items for sale, unfortunatly i do not accept local pick up and this option wasn't offered in the auction.
I have however combined the postage, If you are no longer interested in the items i will send you a cancellation request.
Kind regards GAMESHOW.
If you do decide to let them collect tell them its cash on collection only!!
Personally i have done quite a few cash on collections and they have gone smoothly, except for one for a suitcase, they won and lived about 70 miles away, paid via paypal even though i'd requested cash on collection, i waited in all day and they never turned up or contacted me.
I sent them a messege the next day along with a request to cancel, which they did without any contact with me, no apology, explaination, nothing and then 3 weeks later gave me a neg, and trashed my stars ...i felt like drive the 70 miles to theirs and poking em in the eye i can tell ya!Everyday im shufflin' Proud Padder ~ All Hail The Power of Pad0
