I've been told I can't claim whilst doing Ebay, but as I said I can't afford to give Ebay up yet as the claim will take 5-6 weeks to investigate as I left my job of my own choice.
I cannot afford to wait those waiting days until they decide if I get it or not as I won't be able to pay my bills and the house is secured on one mortgage I have.
I know the profit seems low with Ebay but it is bringing some money in daily and then I can rob Peter to pay Paul and worry about the tax bill next Jan.

I dont want to bang on about it Binnie, but do make sure you double check you cant claim any tax credits, dont take the jobcentres word for it, they have been know to give very bad advice in the past especially when it comes to people being self employed x
Right so in the mean time you need to crack on with ya ebaying, as you are registered as a business you can list as much as you like
Your personal allowance before you start paying tax is way above your last years profit at around £6000... check with the HMRC website for exact amount, as it has gone up since i was last self employed.
Im not sure about your national insurance, you could try asking on the benefits board and small business board, or keep trying to get through on the phone, the lines will be very busy as its getting close to the 31st and everyones panicing about there tax returns deadline

I can make a claim but I had to show all my paperwork, prove all my assets and how much I've earnt lately. But it's difficult as I work my figures out on a yearly basis and wouldn't know how much I've made until I do the whole lot.
The did say I couldn't have any benefits as I work 18 hours or more on Ebay. You are only allowed to work for 16.
But then what you earn, they said they would deduct from the £65 a week. The girl said we are only allowed to earn an extra £5 a week.0 -
I just found this thread today, and I would like to join in the challenge if you don't mind? I have been doing ebay for a few months, selling my clutter, and I have a lot of it still to get listed. Started the year of quite well and made about 200 pounds(no pound sign on my keyboard!) so far.
What is my goal? To have enough money in the bank by December to go and buy a new kitchen in the January sales. My kitchen is pretty derelict to be honest, and I would love to have a new one. Well, I can dream. Knowing me I will have changed my mind next week about what the goal is!Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

£10 made today....I'm definitely slowing down!
However, I sat and listed 36 things tonight, not sure I'll do too well with them but we'll see.0 -
Hi All, my disatisafied customer wants me to refund them their money and then they'll return the item. Is this how it works, or should I wait to receive the item before returning the money??? The say that part of it is broken, but it wasn't. What if they have swapped it for another? I'm really not sure what to do. Should I send the money anyway and just trust them just writing off the loss if they do not send it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0

Tell them to send it and ask for proof of postage in the Post Office. This is a ticket with the date and the post code where the item goes. They can scan that (or make a pic) and send it to you by mail. That way you can refund the same day they send the item.
Not sure what the official procedure is. eBay have some FAQ pages, I will post them if I find them.
edit: The advice below is much better. I might be too soft lolQuit smoking *1st January 2010*

Don't refund them until they send it back (sorry what is it again?). If they want a refund before sending it back it is highly likely once they have the money they won't bother.
Sounds like they are pulling a fast one. Tell them no item back no refund and that they can file a claim if they wish where they will have to send it back by trackable means at their own expense before they will get refunded (think you have to do this via Paypal but not 100% sure so maybe someone else could advise).Sealed Pot Challenge #0160 -
If you bought something from a shop and it was faulty, the shop wouldn't refund your money without taking the item first!
You should do the same. As mentioned above, no return no refund. If they start a dispute through ebay/paypal they will be asked to return it (and have proof). Stick to your guns and good luck!On a mission to banish our credit card debts

Thanks for offering to help

Not sure really, I guess you need the obvious stuff, like selling price, actual postage cost, fvf, listing cost etc. Id want to know what my costs are and my profit.
At the moment Im only selling stuff from around the house, old stuff I no longer want or need.
Anyone else got any idea of what should be included?

Is this enough?
I left space for 100 items, P&P cost, P&P paid, price paid and fees.
You do not need to fill everything to get details. You can put lump sums for fees or postage costs in any of the rows for that column, as long as you know that is the total. Or put in the description "Total fees for January", and then put no price/p&p paid by customer and add there the fees only. Same with P&P, you can add a line saying "Total postage" and then add only the postage in that line. It should calculate totals and show you the profit in the square at the right.
It is a VERY BASIC spreadsheet. I am only a basic user, I use them every now and then to do my own finances but never done any course or anything, so please let me know if there is anything wrong and be gentle!!
Let me know if there is any issue downloading it.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*
