Here's some pointers Welshwoofs has given Tinks, who is staring a business, on the Census thread in DT - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3133450

    thorough research into your market:
      • whether the need for your product/service exists
      • if there are competitors in your market
      • whether you can offer the product/service cheaper than any competitors and compete on a price point basis
      • if you cannot compete on a price point basis, whether you can offer a USP which makes your product/service more attractive than your competitors'
    • You created a solid business plan to take you through start-up and the next couple of years
    • You have done projections on estimated costs/revenues and have planned emergency contingency if you have sudden cash-flow problems
    • You have a good marketing and advertising strategy
    • You are networking your backside off to ensure your name and product/service is out there and you're getting as many contacts as possible
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

ah not a lot to sort out then!
I will take it one step at a time, and get going.
How I havent got a clue, but nothing ventured nothing gained.
    Thanks Errata

  • mooloo, dont be put off by the long list, I know you have run businesses before! I didnt do much of that list and built a successful business that was so good, I sold it in the middle of a recession!

It used to be that there were lots of start up courses you could go on, but I guess in the current climate that's unlikely. Business Link will be as good as ever at having the things you need to do to stay legal from an earnings and business point of view ( like tax and data protection) and I know that most types of benefits allow you to earn a small amount before penalising you.

I think at the mo, with all ( and more ) of your earnings being accounted for in things you have had to pay out for up front, then you're going to be ok. Only if you find massive amounts of energy under a rock somewhere, and start producing lots and lots, would I think you would have a problem. Just in case, keep receipts for anything that's relevant!

I'm really pleased you've found a creative outlet that you enjoy and the positive reinforcement so many sales bring.

    Thanks Queen of Strings.
I am getting a good response for my bags, although I think I need to set up a better outlet as doing it via ebay means its a bit hit and miss and some of the bags are going for rock bottom prices. Although it is still getting me repeat customers, so the bags must be ok or people would not come back for more.
Some are selling at the higher price so it will even out I suppose.

Re the BF, as suspected Jealousy reared its ugly head. A very very ex male friend of mine works in the local football club here, and I collected DGD from there with her mum on several occasions when they finish as stay and play (in the building next door), and I am running late after having been somewhere. As Twins grew up in said club, (I was once the secretary there), it is a place that they feel safe in, and everyone knowns them. So DGD is made welcome. One of the committee members gives her toys that have come off of the front of comics. (He works in a BP station in his real job), and so she likes going there to get a coke, crisps and a toy! Alas said ex works behind the bar.
On Saturday afternoon DGD mentioned this mans name. That was the trigger for my BF to completely ignore me, for the rest of the day/night and only speak when he really had too!
Jealously, and misstrust. Once again it has reared its ugly head.
It took me until nearly 10pm last night to get it out of him. What was wrong with him etc. But that was it.
I am fuming., How can he think so bad of me? How can he aquse me of seeking out male attention! When do I get the energy, time or for that matter the inclination too? I dont wear make up, I am in jeans and jumpers or Tshirts, I look like death warmed up most of the time, and certainly feel it. !
    Ha!
It is a joke. Well it would be funny but its serious. I have been with my BF on and off, for nearly 7 years!. Why would I want to do that? Why would I be taking a 3 year old with me if i was seeking out Men? I am sick to death of his jealousy, and to be honest I am not sure I can put up with it anymore.
I have so much else going on in my life with my family, that dealing with his childish behaviour is just getting too much.

Today, I am angry and very hurt. It will take more then a text message saying sorry if I am wrong! Huh.

Molly you will be speechless at this !!
Hope your feeling better today by the way.
Take care and get better for our holiday. I am going to need it me thinks!!

The three bags on ebay sold. so its a trip to the post office as soon as DGD is in Nursery! Then perhaps I will need to go to the shop for stuff for the lunch. Out of bread, ham, yoghurts and crisps! mm. Its going to be a strange pack up today!.
    Oh well.

I have plenty of experimental sewing to keep me busy as well.
Ideas are pouring in! from all sources.

Mooloo not just jealousy but immature because he should have asked about the comment immediately instead of stewing about it. That is what a real grown up should do.
I hope you have a really good holiday and well done with the bags. I wish I could get myself into gear to sell some things I make or even something completely different. One day maybe.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
