DS's bedroom is driving me mad- why is it no matter how much stuff we clear out it doesn't seem any emptier!!!!!!!!!!

Its now free of Dr Who figures and Star Wars figures and all ships and still is so cluttered so yesterday I went in with a large carrier and got out the bits he doesn't play with, then managed to do the same this morning, I am going to hold onto them for a bit and if he doesn't miss anything which I know he won't I am going to drop them off at the CS.

Also out within the past few days:

2 playstation game boxes as the games have disappeared
1 large bag of toys which sold on Ebay and buyer collected
1 sack of clothes to DS1's school who was collecting to raise money for the school

    1 cat (oops) - Millie :o

Lucky you! I wish I could add another cat to my small feline family :)

Again more tidying then de-cluttering for - running out of things to get rid of (unless I start on ohs belongings!) - yet even though there's not much left I can get rid of there seems to still be piles of 'homeless' stuff everywhere so I'm currently working to finding homes for my remaining clutter.

I have just posted 3 ebay parcels this morning and a lady off freecycle is coming to collect a drill this afternoon.

Good to see everyone is still doing well :)

I know EXACTLY what you mean! I had a major sort out in my DS2s room last summer and got rid of 4 lbanana boxes of old toys. it was just as bad as ever again by Xmas so I had another go a couple of weeks ago, went through all the drawers and cupboards and found homes for everything there. I have just been in there and every horizontal surface is covered in lego, toys, models, books and all sorts of cr*p

    I GIVE UP!

Don't even mention the Lego - at least 5 boxes of the stuff:eek:
  • New to MSE and inspired by you all have decided to join in the decluttering. Main issue for me is my love of books and the fact that the OH is hoarder. But I'm determined to push on.

So far got rid of 3 bags of rubbish and filled the recycle box with magazines - will take months to get rid of them all! 6 bags of books passed to friends with another 6 to go and 4 bags of DVDs to find good homes for.

Went through paperwork last week and filled shredding bin and today have takled on top of the fridge and the kitchen cupboard- another bag of rubbish!

Just trying to get stuff out at the moment as I have some time off in a few weeks and want to rearrange all the bookshelves and tackle the abyss that is the cot lofts then.

With each pile that goes I feel more energised.

2manybooks, hello, that could be me. I woke up in the early hours and was wide awake, so took a look at my bedroom bookshelves. I couldn't see all the shelves properly (books in front of books) :o but I operated this brief set of criteria to decide what went:
    1. Have I read it yet?
    2. Do I want to read it?
    3. Would I /did I give it five stars on Amazon?
    4. Would I read it again? With great enjoyment?
    5. If it's reference - related, can I get it off the net?
    6. If I gave it away, is there any circumstance which might make me regret this?

Out went a Miriam Stoppard book, a Richard and Judy wine book and about eight or nine others, to the Salvation Army CS in Durham.
I'm disabled and have just purchased a four wheel trolley to help me shop. I discovered it's a lot easier to push with heavy things like books in to weight it down, than it is to push it light and empty. So the next time it goes out it will have to have books in - or something heavy!
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

I have a list for today, and we have done nothing except drop DS into town, pop to a friends and bring home some of her stuff.

Need a monumental effort as I need to reorganise a few places so that I can set my stuff up to pull out half an hour's stuff to do at a time. With the baby I can't just plan to sit and scrapbook for a day as I get too interrupted. A few hours work this weekend will make lots of things achievable but we keep putting off starting because it's going to get messier first and we can't face it!

Well, pleased to report I managed a bit of a tidy up in the lounge and cleared the surfaces - inspired by the challenge - the only problem being that since I hadn't done it for so long, I found all these misc items so I now have a 'hmmm what shall I do with that' pile, loads of magazines, catalogues and books to sort out. :(

Also sorted out my bag and shoe cupboard - 2 bags to charity, 3 in the wash (only 2 survived.) One pair of shoes I really love but they slip off have finally finally made the charity pile and I got them out the house the same day to stop me taking them back out.

Thank for the new cat welcomes - and pleased I don't have to count her as an 'in' then, LOL! She's a rescue so she's 'recycled' too :rotfl:.
I do rather think that warrants a trip to the pet shop tomorrow though...the birds have had a good go at the peanut feeder too so I can stock up on those....guilt free shopping and all edibles so NO CLUTTER!
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!
