The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

A new cat, how lovely for you. Juliebunny. May she bring happiness.
I rang up the bulk rubbish collection today, have to pay for it but they are taking away on Monday:
A king size mattress and divan base
A small metal safe
Cardboard boxes and plastic wrap (ex furniture)
A punchbag
A huge black bag (wheely bin liner) with old quilts in.
Unfortunately my little patio garden looks like Steptoe's yard until Monday, but heigh - ho.
Also out: Paperwork from teaching, c. 4 years old, huge pile.
Rediscovered. Jumper my mother made for my son (then 8 now 27) just before she died. Am hoping grandson (now 8) will wear it. Woolly hat from Latvia that was one of my last presents from my late Dad. Very 'now' with its ethnic patterns, put it on and remembered that it itched horribly! I had thought it lost, so I am thrilled.
First sight of in 5 years: Orange Seventies lino at the bottom of the wardrobe!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I'm sure I can find 20 items, so count me in!
On Wednesday afternoon I got all the DVDs put in the rack, then finished putting a load of CDs on the computer to go on my ipod, then finally got them all put back in their racks. The top of the hifi looks nice now I’ve cleared everything off it, and the shelf where the DVDs were is a bit tidier! Also did a bit of polishing and cleaned the shower curtain.
Yesterday I took my dad's washing back to him, but not sure it counts as an out as he gave me another lot to bring back, lol! Didn't do much else yesterday as I was working in the morning, and had to go shopping in the afternoon, and not done much today either, but I did empty a laundry basket of ironing, which has been beside the dining table for about 2 weeks!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Yesterday some stuff in for my guides, a couple of badges for me and a cheque for expenses which I'll pay in tomorrow or Monday.
Not a lot out other than usual recycling etc.
OH is having a day off today so I'm hopeful a bit of decluttering will be done but not holding my breath - he did promise to do the washing up and even mentioned putting a load of washing on .
So hoping to get home early tonight and start my mission of decluttering for the weekend, if I can do a charity bag tonight/tomorrow morning I can take it out tomorrow when I'm going to do my volunteering and drop it off then.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. i have a confession to make....... MY NAME IS ALEX, AND I AM A SERIAL HOARDER!!!
Now thats out of the way i have been reading all of your posts and challenges and i have decided enough is enough!!
So, my challenge is that by the end of the year - March 2011 (financial yr lol) - i must:
1. Put our old computer desk which is currently clogging up the dining room on freecycle
2. List and sell ALL of the items already put aside for ebay but currently sitting in a black bag in the dining room
3. Stop putting things aside for carboot sale and actually HAVE A STALL AND GET RID. I have 7 bin bags FULL of things for car boot in spare room as well as approx. 10 containers piled wobbly on top of the kitchen cupboard for HM cakes to sell at said car boot.
4. Go through all paperwork and shred any papers that can be disposed of. I do not need to keep my bank statements from 15 years ago, or my electricity bills from 5 years ago.
5. Go through mine and OH wardrobes and donate all clothes that have not been worn in the past year to charity shop.
6. Go through DS toys and donate all toys not played with/too young to charity shop.
Phew... and thats just the start!! If i am successful with this by the end of March then i will set myself a new challenge.
GOOD LUCK AND WELL DONE EVERYBODY!!! :TDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

A kit I wouldn't use went to someone else on MSE that was looking for a new baby kit/pattern and then today I got rid of a load of metallic and rayon floss to a friend that wants to spin them in with fleece to give an interesting start to a weave so I could say this is either 5 items or 120 :rotfl:, depending if I take each skein of floss as an individual item or notmarmiterulesok wrote: »I'm game.I've managed a lot this week, but I can find more to go out/recycle,and it's good to keep at it whilst I feel motivated!
I also have a kitchen drawer full of junk,so that's something I could also sort out.
Your idea of giving yourself bursts of 15 minutes at a time,ie tidying in the sitting room,is good.I sometimes do that too.It means that you don't get bogged down.- I've found that sometimes the only way to sort things like drawers out is to tip them out onto something (like a towel). Otherwise I find I keep on picking things up and putting them down like a magpie
It's good to do little bits just to keep the momentum going like you say. I keep thinking less stuff, less stuff to clean, easier to keep clean, more relaxing, less stressing :A
:wave:Hello Dragon, nice to see you again:)
Im in for a weekend challange,Mineallmine, but seeing as I'm at work will aim for 10 item's.
This week's not been to bad, actually managed to keep the side in the kitchen clear for 2 whole day's:rotfl:
Keep up the good work everyone, and have a good weekend.The_Dragon wrote: »Okay I will mini challenge it, 10 items?:)

OUTS:
2 bags to Cat Rescue charity shop (various clothes, books, bags, CDS etc)
2 bags of newspapers to the cat rescue shelter

I'm up for the mineallmine weekend de-clutter too (hope I can count today's stuff....)

I'm going to try and declutter 20 things this weekend.
I'm also going to blitz the living room surfaces (floor and tables).
Finally, to tidy the kitchen surfaces.
Will try and do the latter 2 using a timer and spending say only 15 mins on each.
Anyone want to join me or set their own challenge?:T
I haven't had time to do any decluttering for days and I thought I would check out the posts to see is any mini-challenges had been set for the weekend - I know I should be able to set my own but somehow the community spirit of these challenges is much more motivating - so big thanks to mineallmine for setting another one :T:T:T:T:T - I don't think I'd ever get anything done without them!0 -

A cat is not clutterso it doesn't count. Ahh, Millie, lovely name.
Everyone is doing so well :T I've slowed right down with my decluttering, and lots of other stuff has been going on, but I got rid of a pair of pyjamas (charity shop) and an old board game (charity) yesterday.
I need a kick up the you know what to go through my files, and do some shreddingEnjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.
