Wow, feel invigorated - sorted out the area by my desk here, threw out a huge bag full of rubbish, put heaps in the recycling and given DH some stuff he may/may not want to keep - he can have the final say so. If he wants to keep it he can find somewhere to keep it.

I've put some of the stuff I want to sell in the crate and will start listing it soon. I'm already feeling more in control.

By the way, also found a ticket for a free trip for the 4 of us on a boat and 4 free swimming tickets - I had no idea they were in there :T

Brilliant Mumof2 - I tend to find random vouchers when I'm tidying, despite have a pot I supposedly put this kind of thing in...

tattycath can anyone help you with ebaying/amazon etc - share the listings/take things to the post office etc? If not and it's the sort of stuff that would car boot could you gradually get things ready for a car boot sale and then do one in the spring with the help of some family/friends?

I am married to a hoarder! Every cupboard, drawer and shelf we have is full to bursting with junk. I can never find anything when I'm looking for it, he always knows roughly where something is but trying to find it in there is a nightmare. I would love to be looking for something and be able to open a cupboard and there it was. I have had enough now and have told him that I am going to start getting rid of some stuff and finally he has agreed that there is far too much clutter for the space we have!!

Oooh, don't get me started about hoarding OH's! Mine is terrible, all the decluttering I have done so far is 95% my stuff and 5% his after me pleading with him to let items go.

We have a kitchen display cabinet/dresser with 3 small drawers, 3 larger drawers and 3 bottom cupboards. 4 of the drawers and 2 of the cupboards are stuffed with what looks like useless bits of his tat! He even has one cupboard containing just computer and tv cables and wires! Aagh!

He won't get rid of things in case they are useful or worth something in the future. I really don't understand his logic, I would rather have the space now and will kick myself in 40 years time if something did turn out to be valuable!!

What is it with men and hoarding? I just can't understand it. DH broke his leg when I was pg with DD (now 8) - he still has the cast they took off his leg ! Can he use it again? Can anyone else use it? No!!!! So why keep it?

I think there should be a national support forum for everyone who has hoarding OHs!!!!

My oh is the same and I totally agree with you. To be fair, lots of nagging and serious lack of space has ensured my oh probably isn't has bad as yours as he has allowed me to get rid of quite a bit of his rubbish. But he still insisted on keeping random junk like a 10 year old MP3 player *the type you put homemade disks in) which hasn't been used in over 8 years and he has an Ipod touch and will be getting an iphone soon as it's safe to say he will never use it again.

Today I haven't done much but I did sort through a small carrier bag of stuff and find a ridiculous amount of highlighter pens! I threw away all the dried out ones but theres still about 10 left, along with a load of other pens.

  • Hi all, well done on all the progress this week :T

I never seem to get much done during the week, but I finally took the slow cooker which I never use over to a friend who was desperate for one. So that's one fairly big thing out today!

In over the past couple of days were a telephone extension cable (needed due to rearranging our lounge) and a liquid chalk marker for writing on food storage jars so I know what's in them.
  • Spent 2 hours today sorting receipts & updating expenditure spread sheet. Have listed 3 items in the last 3 days to sell (target is 15 items this month listed)
Tomorrow I will try & shred the pile that is spilling over the floor next to the shredder & put empty paint pots in shed waiting to go to tip (empty paint pots & full are currently sprawled together on the study floor - paint shop had 25% off in November so we stocked up as whole house has been replastered but DH said it cannot live in the shed because it is too cold!!)
I have listed all food in cupboards over the last 3 days & stuck list on side of freezer next to freezer contents list. This is to help me meal plan a week ahead & spend less on groceries.
I think my clutter is infectious if I leave it it seems too big a task but by doing a few bits this week I am positive & spurred on to keep going - I think my motto needs to be to declutter little & often as trying to tackle too much just leads to me giving up

I love reading everyone else's efforts on here & hope that this year I will just keep going until it is done

I sorted out my sewing box on Tuesday night, got rid of a few bits of junk that had found their way in there, (??) a few buttons in the bottom have now gone in the button box, safety pins are all together, and a couple of crochet hooks are now in with my knitting and crochet stuff (planning to get back into knitting and crochet this year, after finding some unfinished bits and some wool, in the 'cupboard of doom'), the sewing box now looks very tidy!

I've had a carrier bag of bits to be sewn at the side of the sofa for months, (mostly OH's socks) and I've finally got around to sewing some of them, so I've only got about half a bag to do now! Also got rid of some cardboard and paper, and I've got bids on 4 items on Ebay, so they will be going next week.

Tomorrow I will finally be sorting out the spare room as I have a day off work. OH brought me a few boxes home to get things sorted into, and he will do a CS run on Saturday so hopefully I'll get rid of a few more bits.

Today I made a start in the kitchen, threw loads of rubbish away, old takeaway cartons etc It was a bit Kim-and-Aggie-tastic  Also cleared out our cupboard, threw away some old packets and jars of food that had been there since the dawn of time (feels like it anway) and stuff that will just never get used. Going to start washing and packing away some stuff that we probably won't use between now and moving, like cake tins and casserole dishes so they're out of the way. Also sorted out our drawer with the tin foil and sandwich bags and things in and threw a bit away. Casting my eye ruthlessly around the appliances like the slow cooker and coffee maker that never get used and thinking of sticking them on eBay.

No takers for my notice board on Freegle so will put that in my Car Boot Sale eBay lot when I finish getting everything together.
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important
