Everyone is getting off to a great start. Even I have managed to declutter the lounge :j There is some stuff in the dining room, but it is listed on Ebay, so won't be there long.

Bought some stock on Saturday, but by today, it was all priced and gone again. Trying to run at a minimum of 100 items listed on Ebay, so hopefully things are on the move.

  • Inspired by this thread, I decided to finish off the bathroom cabinet today. Took everything out, cleaned it, and sorted things into groups and put in. Just thrown into recycling bin 20 bits of packaging (empty, or combined products to make them so!, taking perfume out of boxes etc). I also just chucked some stuff that I have had for years and don't really like, it was just sitting there making me feel wretched. Along with the random bits of hair clips, a screw and a button (?) I have decluttered about 28 things :j, and that was from an area I had a good go through about 3 months ago!

Does anyone find decluttering something fully takes more than one attempt - e.g. the first time is hard, and the second time easier to cull stuff?

Museumworker - absolutely things take more than one attempt. My understairs cupboard took about 3 goes I think in all. There's still stuff in there to sort but I can now use it and that was the aim!

Well done on your decluttering, keep going :)

    Ok, if it were me I would start at 0 and put them in numerical order, e.g 1, 35, 78, 99, 304, 2000, 3400

OH does it differently, by looking at the 1st digit (like doing it alphabetically), then the secong digit etc. Therefore his are numbered according
    e.g. 1, 2000, 304, 3400, 35, 78, 99

    that's just crazy!

  • Hi everybody

I am always trying to declutter but not very successfully :rotfl:

I have been inspired again by looking at this thread & by having a look again at this brilliant book - 'Clear Your clutter with Feng Shui' by Karen Kingston (http://www.spaceclearing.com/html/readers-letters). She makes you realise why you have all the clutter & how it effects you.

so tonight - changed the bed cos it's in our health/unity area and cleaned the area in front of it (career area) - tidied some things away,a few bits in the bin, moved the laundry bag to downstairs and have found 5 items of clothing to get rid of (added to the pile to go to Charity) plus a few knick knacks (may go to Charity or may go in the pressies box not sure).

A lot of things in my house are actually not mine, they belonged to my family, and so I have to check with mother first so she's happy for things to go. A big thing is the old books collected by my great grandfather.

I tend to collect things together to get rid of but then actually getting them out the house is another thing. My nearest charity shop is only open 3 days a week, and if I go I usually end up coming back with other things! I have got rid of some things on freecycle (most recently some shelves) and last year threw a lot of old russian books in the bin.

It's what I do for a living. I have units in an Antique Centre and sell on Ebay, hence why I have so much 'stuff' in my house :o

I'm currently in the process of decluttering so will join in! :)

Since moving to my own rented flat 2 years ago I've always held on to a few things 'just in case'. However having recently put an off in for a flat to buy and it being accepted (eek!) I thought it must be time to declutter as it'll help with the move and generate some income!

So far I've sold 15 items via EBay which is great, and traded in some old DVD's on Music Magpie too. I've also sold 2 old mobile phones which is great.

Next step is old books and clothes which will be going to the local charity shops, then its on to decluttering old university notes! :)

Definitely!! Everytime I declutter I always find things that I have no idea why I kept before! Im definitely getting more ruthless! SO my plan for today is just to stay ontop of what I have done already, I was out for most of the day yesterday and so theres a little repair work to do from leaving DH here with 3 small children...but he actually didnt do too bad! If I get time I need to sort out all the kids toys- again- but thats actually quite a big job so I might leave that til the weekend.

I agree about the keeping revisiting things and finding new items to get rid of, that you don't really need.

Had less than an hour between getting home and going to bed last night so not a lot of chance for decluttering.

    But did:

    Out:
Another go through make up so 18 things in total thrown out now - think I know what I use and what to buy in future now
Managed to find 5 things for charity bag, 2 little purses from present stash I don't know who to give to, 2 ornament type things I was given as gifts ages ago and don't fit anywhere and a kitchen utensil we don't use so getting there with that.
Recycling had been collected too so all gone and ready to refill again.

    In:
Piece of post for our music group - OH needs to sort and file
Other piece of post - straight into recycling.

At least being busy means no time for shopping and not a lot coming in!
