The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

"De-cluttered" the freezer last weekend - oh dear, some of it seemed to have stopped being appetising or edible... anyway, it's been recycled and not wasted.
Now the video player has died (already recycled) I sorted out and binned 31 tapes. None of the local charity shops take them so I put the boxes into the plastic recycling & the inserts in to the paper recycling.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I'm a bit of a neat freak, so out on the counter tops in our kitchen are :- kettle, toaster, knife block, water filter jug, compost crock and council food waste caddy, kitchen roll and a utensil pot. Everything else is away (tea, coffee, mugs etc stored in cupboard above kettle, so it's logical). I do have a skinny cupboard containing a blender, a hand mixer and the slow cooker - they are use rarely, but they are used! I'm lucky in that we have a lot of cupboard space, so I had one whole empty cupboard, which I use to store stuff I buy well in advance of Christmas (crackers etc). Oh, and I bought a food warmer thing which we use a few times a year, and that lives in there, too.
Decluttering wise, I'm still plodding through my wardrobe getting rid of bits and bobs. Send DH off to the charity shop the other day with two big bags of stuff. I am about to go through DS1's underbed cupboard thing, and I'm meeting a friend next week who is taking some old school uniform off my hands.Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

I hate decluttering! I've emptied 3 big drawers full of clothes onto the bed... and now I'm stuck!
There are a lot of things I haven't worn for about 3 years... but they're all so pretty or comfy or it just seems a shame to throw them. Help!0 -
I do that Sharloid, I solved it by putting them in bags in the loft with the date on and if I hadn't worn them or wanted them in the last year then they went straight to charity.
I am sorting out my room for what must the 1000000th time. I am !!!!ing sick of it all. my life is like a slidey puzzle, got to move so many bits round to get one in the right place it barely seems worth it.
And I have a sore throat and a earache. just want to sleep but can't as there is too much stuff on the bedNevertheless she persisted.0 -

Are there types of clothes you have a lot of? If so could you donate a few of each type to a charity shop? Better than keeping loads of the same thing that you don't get to wear, plus someone else gets use out of them, the charity gets some money and you free up some drawer space.Buffythedebtslayer wrote: »I do that Sharloid, I solved it by putting them in bags in the loft with the date on and if I hadn't worn them or wanted them in the last year then they went straight to charity.

Aww Buffy, don't be hard on yourself. Take it easy until you feel better and then tackle it. Can you just put it back where you had it from for now?0 -

Thank you xx, I had to give in eventually
I think I have to really and finally realise that Rome wasn't built in a day. I have no clue why or how I have so much utter crap but whilst I get rid of it in fits and starts I won't actually get shot of it until I do a little each day instead of depressing myself by spending my weekends trying to fix it all.
So.
This week I NEED to focus on my marking.
However I can spend 15 minutes each day shredding from the box in the conservatory
Next Weekend
Saturday - shed of doom, I need to rearrange it again lol, can't get to the e bay stuff (such a shame ...........).
Sunday
Move furniture in bedroom.
my room looks a bit better today I guess.

I went mad photgraphing and listing everything in sight on Ebay yesterday. Feel pretty pleased with myself as some of the items are showing a some interest and i am hoping to get shot of a bit more stuff we dont use any more.
I havent felt very good today, tired, teary and hormonal but ive managed to shred a load of unneeded paperwork that was cluttering up my household folders. Mainly old warrentees and receipts that i wont be needing any longer. I hate wading through junk to find important paperwork because i couldnt be arsed to deal with the junk in the first place. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. err I may have moved my furniture round tonight instead.............
I have a plan for the last bit of sorting in my room that I can do over the next few nights, in 15 minutes.
this will work.

Morning all...
Feeling really fed up this morning...birthday in a couple of days...dreading it..(first one without Mum)
so this morning I am unhappy with...
- the house which really needs decluttering/a bomb putting under it
- my body I've put on over a stone since Mum died
- life in general and getting olderwas apathetic about birthdays before...now I just hate the idea altogether...
No matter how much stuff I shift...there's never enough space I'm racked off today...good and proper...I need a rocket up the back side and whatever motivational decluttering advice you can give me
TIA

This weekend DH did our first ever car boot. He sold lots of DD's old clothes and toys and other bric a brac thats been in the bottom of the cupboard for years.
I couldn't believe what people will buy: An old coat of mine that was ready for the bin (I wore it all year round for about 3 years as it was my only coat at the time! it was missing buttons and the belt that originally came with it too)
DD's old sleepsuits and pajamas that were faded from being washed so much also sold well.
He went with 4 large bags full of stuff and came back with a small box with about 15 items in it :j.
We have also boxed up 4 large boxes of books that we are storing in my in-laws cellar. Although it still hasn't made a dent in the 1000's of books we still have here!
Tomorrow, I am going to wrap all the christmas presents I have bought so far and put them in the loft until nearer christmas.Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set
