I wonder if I speak only for myself when I say I have something of a dilemma when it comes to decluttering...as I'm as commited to the money-raising/saving/debt paying off as I am to the decluttering....

It always feels like a bit of a conflict...between I want the house empty now....and I have to wait and possibly make a few quid first....

    anyone else have this? x

Totally. I am getting rid of stuff gradually. Maybe not as much or as quickly as I want as I'm fond of saying that'll go on ebay and then not list it :wall: but there are spaces appearing:j

  • it doesn't help now with the 100 listings limits for 99p listings on ebay does it :) each time I relist something that hasn't sold it's effectively taking up a listing of something new which could go online....tempted with selling as carboot lots...we'll see :) xxx

Oh Lyndy I know how you feel with the accepting stuff for nothing. My ex husband was terrible for that, and we ended up with mis-matched furniture in the living room, and allsorts of things all over the house and I'm sure only about 5% of it I would have chosen myself! Luckily OH and I have been able to buy our own things, and the only stuff that gets given to us now are things from my mum to ebay/car boot for her as she's having a 'I hate clutter of any kind' phase. Oh yes, and I have a box in the garage that is filling up with Christmassy food bits as I see them on offer. Luckily we have quite a lot of wardrobe space for presents.

We've made some good progress this weekend but most things aren't actually out of the house yet.
    OUT:
A few blu-rays sold on ebay/taken to CEX for cash
Shoe box to Romania finally wrapped and taken to school today
2 big charity bags full to the recycling bin - mainly from the playroom/my crafting
Duplo, table music table and ride on toy to loft - can't bear to sell them so they've gone up in the loft for the time being

    Pending out:
    Kids toys/books/dvds from playroom
6 mugs that we haven't used since living here (almost 2 years), in fact I don't remember using them at our last house!
Very large stack of OH's CDs - he needs to rip the songs he likes to MP3, which he's already started doing, then they can be sold
More blu-rays (he's upgrading to steelbooks where he can (it's his boy thing apparently) so he's selling off his normal ones to offset the cost)
2 Nappy cake orders waiting to be collected
Small pile of DD2's clothes to be sold
Probably a few more things I can't remember that went into the 'selling' box.

Most of the above is waiting to be put on our local facebook selling page, or will be sold on ebay or at CEX. Anything not sold by mid Decemeber will be taken to a CS as I'm really hoping to have got things a bit more sorted by Christmas as it's the first year since OH and I have been together that we're staying at home on the day and I'll be cokking for his grandparents and brother too so want things nice and tidy :)

We did this, although we did one huge lot which may or may not have put off potential buyers. Cleared a hell of a space in the garage though, and we still have plenty to car boot/facebook selling page ourselves! I have quite a few 99p things I haven't even got round to re-listing yet either, as well as the new things to put on...must get some motivation. Don't know where from though lol!

    Morning

I'm seriously considering batching the little bits into one carboot lot Cat, if only to release myself from the disdain that the post office lady heaps on me when I turn up with a carrier bag of 99p listing items :D x

Ive made a decision. For months now ive been selling our unwanted junk on Ebay free listing days. Slowly and surely the pile has been going down but its not been going down fast enough and i want the cupboard back that ive been storing it all in so after christmas ive decided to charity shop whats left (which i am hoping will be not a lot).

I am determined to have a minimalist home if it kills me!:D

Sounds like a plan Judi :) I think there has to be a point at which you decide something just wont sell...especially if space is at a premium...else you end up going from hoarding to decluttering to hoarding stuff to sell....

my kitchen pantry (where I put the sell stuff) is in danger of becoming a stock room at this rate...think I might try some options other than ebay to try and shift the stuff...

    at the moment I'm considering

    musicmagpie for cds
    and
clothes4cash for clothing which isn't branded or wouldn't pass the muster for ebay

Ooh I have one of those PO ladies too! A while ago when they had 2 free listing weekends 2 weeks apart, plus my usual 99p listings that were relisted as soon as they went unsold so I was in there loads. I think I got several of those 'Ugh it's her again' looks lol.

Small batches might be the way to go! Then you can either have batches of specific things e.g. just books/clothes/dvds etc or a mix and match batch with a bit of everything in it. Not sure which one we'll go for next time.

I have someone collecting a candle soon sold through one of our local facebook selling pages. Not much but it'll be out of the house and will add 50p to the pot lol. Good luck with the selling!

Two Ebay parcels posted this morning (only beads and jewellery making stuff, so hasn't really created much more space.)

I also have an ongoing Ebay box. At least I have got it down to one of those large plastic crates now, it did used to be about 5 crates worth as I had a lot of sci-fi film/TV stuff to sell (from my must collect everything days.) Happily most of that has gone, apart from a load of magazines nobody seems to want! I don't want to recycle them as I sure there is a collector out there who would like them, and the charity shop wouldn't want them, so I am stuck relisting them for now. I am saving for an ipod (or similar so I can get rid of a lot of CDs!) so I don't want to give away items I can sell, but it is a slow process!

I too have had post office worker disdain! Without us Ebayers, they wouldn't get much business, the cheeky so and sos! I get round the disdain by having a network of post offices I use (one in town, one in the next village, one by my parent's house.) :)

I am still not actively decluttering as my assignment is due in a couple of days and I am only a third of the way through. I will be back later in the week and I will set myself a decluttering challenge.
