The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Hello All,
Well, I took back a bag of unwanted stuff to Marks & Spencer today for a refund and I didn't buy anything new - does that count.
The only 'ins' were a couple of Game gift vouchers for family Christmas presents, so they won't stay long!
Baby steps.0 -
Long time no posting fellow de-clutterers
but much, much lurking and motivation - ta!

I never knew these people existed. I wish I had found out before I bothered to list and sell a load of stuff for 99p on ebay. I think I have less than half a sack now(May have to get maiter to chip in!)
This week:
46 things to music magpie (the majority at 30p but at least it's gone now). Speaking of grumpy post office people I took special delight in handing the woman a 7kg box
6 things on ebay - a whole £12 to me (well towards bf xmas pressie!)
and now potentially some clothes to clothes for cash pending further investigation.
Got a load of books to go as well but all the second hand book shops round by me aren't buying until the new year. I'm sure they can lurk for another month (I have room in the cupboard now - wahoooo)
Keep going everyone - doing well :TAll that is gold does not glitter
All those who wander are not lost

Glad to be of assistance Greengoblinlet me know how you get on...as I say clothes4cash and musicmagpie are ideas i've been flirting with...haven't done anything about either yet
lazy eh? :rotfl:
I got a bit worried about using musicmagpie as when I made enquiries by email they didn't reply at all - so thought "hmm, should i entrust anything of value (albeit limited) to someone who can't reply to emails...put me off a bit
anyways good luck with decluttering today ladies and lurkersx

Two Ebay parcels posted this morning (only beads and jewellery making stuff, so hasn't really created much more space.)
I also have an ongoing Ebay box. At least I have got it down to one of those large plastic crates now, it did used to be about 5 crates worth as I had a lot of sci-fi film/TV stuff to sell (from my must collect everything days.) Happily most of that has gone, apart from a load of magazines nobody seems to want! I don't want to recycle them as I sure there is a collector out there who would like them, and the charity shop wouldn't want them, so I am stuck relisting them for now. I am saving for an ipod (or similar so I can get rid of a lot of CDs!) so I don't want to give away items I can sell, but it is a slow process!
I too have had post office worker disdain! Without us Ebayers, they wouldn't get much business, the cheeky so and sos! I get round the disdain by having a network of post offices I use (one in town, one in the next village, one by my parent's house.)
I am still not actively decluttering as my assignment is due in a couple of days and I am only a third of the way through. I will be back later in the week and I will set myself a decluttering challenge.
Yeah I try using other post offices - but when the items aren't worth much it pays to stay close by else all the proceeds are spent on getting to PO... she (PO Lady) really annoyed me a few weeks ago... I was there at the counter and politely asked if the mailman had already collected to which she replied
"yeah I've told you, you should come earlier" which was a bit rich as
a: she never has said anything like that to me
b: it had been at least 8 months since I'd last been in :S
now she can't have me confused with someone else....I don't know sometimes I go in and steel myself for her disdain and she's nice as pie
other times I go in with the guard down and she rips a layer off with a sharp tongue or a nasty look :S...and as for her husband - well last time I walked in - he visibly rolled his eyes at me.....:rotfl:

BrilliantYou've made my day lol. I was hoping it would be as I have something that will make a fab Christmas present and wanted to put it on at a decent price for free. Will see what other bits I can get put on too.
Not much else happening here declutter wise. My 50p candle was collected, as well as 2 nappy cakes so that's a bit more space. I'm trying to use up all my gift stock without buying any new bits, that way I'm not sitting on stock rather than having cash in the bank and it doesn't clutter the house up as much. This year what Xmas/edible gifts don't get sold will be added to Christmas presents where appropriate.
Apart from general recycling nothing else happening here!Extra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000
Original MF date Feb 2025. Currently Feb 2030:eek: Aiming for Jan 2025 :TMortgage at [STRIKE]10/19 - £47,200[/STRIKE] 11/19 - £46,615:heart:My girls keep me going0 -
Aww Cat, it's not often anyone tells me I've made their day
in fact nobody's ever said it at all....lol
so i'll basque in that for a moment....before saying...
I've done the laundry, cleaned the bathroom, rearranged the bedroom and now have a clothes mountain to sort through....
seriously I'm ashamed of how much carp I have in the form of clothes...without that the bedroom would be really tidy
so work to do on getting rid....here's where the cash vs clutter dilemma REALLY starts...
hope you all had a good decluttering day xxx0 -
Haven't been on here for a month or two but the clearing bug is back, don't know whether its because there is a lot of changes at work and it a kind of coping mechanism as I know I'm not the only one at work who's caught the sorting bug, so within the last week:
Out:
Christmas tree- sold and collected only used twice but doubled my money
DS Lite- Sold
3 bags of toys for the CS not played with
1 bag of clothing for for the CS
Tidied out under the stairs and put a few bits on Ebay which I have offers pending and bought a shoe organiser which I hung in the wardrobe and put all my shoes in which were littered around the house, I have also emptied 3 baskets of OH's magazines which he needs to sort out - could be waiting a while for this - baskets listed on Ebay also so am hoping these will go soon. I keep sitting here and then wondering what I can tidy next!!!!!!0 -
Lola I'm the same as are a few other women I know....
I definitely think it's a coping mechanism (taking control of what you can - that being your own space - when other things are out of your control)
Sounds like your sales are going well as is your declutteringkeep it up it's not a negative thing at least...
some people turn to far less savoury pursuits when things start being a bit meh xxx0 -
We did used to have weekend challenges on this thread, I don't know if anyone is interested in a challenge starting tomorrow morning and running until Sunday, or however long you have to squeeze in some decluttering? You can set whatever challenge you like, you just come and report back after the weekend to say how you did...
My challenge is to fill a black bag for the charity shop and to list at least five items sitting in the Ebay box, also to relist everything that didn't sell last time.
Today I have tidied the living room and recycled all of the brochures from the coffee table (again!) Will have to see if I can take my name off some mailing lists as the amount of catalogues I get is ridiculous. Some companies even send me promotional emails AND a paper brochure, talk about a waste of resources!0
