Well, if it helps on my worktops are the bread bin, glass chopping board, the washing up things, Tea, Coffee and Sugar jars, kettle and microwave.

I agree, I hate to see clutter and stuff as well and do try to be ruthless if possible.

actually the only things you can see in my kitchen apart from the cooker and microwave is the kettle. Everything else is behind closed doors. It looks a bit sparse when you walk into it but that suits me fine.

I have bread bin, George Foreman, toaster, kettle, fruit bowl, flowers, and tea/coffee/sugar containers.
  • NOt been here for a while, seems like you're all doing so well

I was doing really well with the local facebook group, but have had some family issues so have deactivated my FB account for awhile so have come to a standstill. Have put a few of the biger things on gumtree, but no joy so far. Am waiting patiently (well, not really) for the next free listing weekend on ebay. Seems the only decluttering I'm doing is friends and family at the moment, can't seem to keep on good terms with anyone! :o:(

  • I keep a tray by my kettle with teapot, coffee, tea and sugar ready, and a tray by my cooker with salt and pepper, oil and butter and some basic seasoning spices which are used frequently.
  • It's the weekend, and my bin's just been emptied, so today's the day I attack the living room! We currently have 4 seats available (for 5 of us!) and only a narrow walkway through the rest - but my dad's taking a load of stuff from us to sell (village Xmas fete) and the rest is (brutally honest time!) my fault for being a lazy sod and not picking up after myself - can't even blame the kids for it this time! Still, by the end of the weekend, I should have a beautifully organised, decluttered living room that I'd be proud for anyone to see - and if I don't, I'll tell you guys and you can be as rude as you like:rotfl:
    Here's hoping...!
Didn't do quite as well as planned - but in my defence Castle with Marc Morris has been on the History channel this weekend, and that in my book is a must-see!
I HAVE managed to take the stuff to my dad's (plus a few other bits we dug out of the cupboard under the stairs), and the TV area is now cleared - we can kneel directly in front of it now instead of having to stop 3 feet away and operate at arms length:eek: I'm going to do another hour or so tonight, and then carry on tomorrow and Tuesday with the rest of the room.
And yes, I promise I'll be good in future and pick up after myself, instead of chucking my carp all over the nearest surface:rotfl:after all, the kids have to learn somehow:D

On one side I have a microwave, kettle, coffee, and electric tin opener (a cheap one, I usually use the manual one but DD2 uses the electric as she's left handed and it was just as cheap to buy that as it was to find a left handed manual one)

On the other side, toaster, mug tree, kitchen roll holder, fruit bowl, vinegars.

In an otherwise useless space between the drainer and the wall, 2 pots full of utensils.

I got rid of a toastie maker and a small deep fat fryer as it was such a faff getting them out to use them so now have a little more space in my limited cupboards:)
  • I can sympathise, I had tea, coffee and sugar canisters on my worktops for years. I only ever used the tea one because no-one takes sugar and we dont drink much coffee so 2 of the 3 were sitting there empty!

The less things you have on the worktops the easier it is to clean so its definitely worth doing. I think you need to do two things: make more space in your cupboards and get rid of some things off the worktops you dont use. It may be easier to approach this in small stages, sort out one cupboard at a time.

I have a utensil pot, kettle, toaster, bread bin, salt and pepper and thats about it.

I have a kettle, T/C/S, digital radio, kitchen roll, toaster and a seasoning pot on my benches, the utensils are hung on a rack. I have a TV at the far end and a fruit bowl on the table. Everything else is in its place in a cupboard.

I would start by getting rid of anything you haven't used for the last 12 months, unless its a special or valuble item. I would put everything else in the cupboards and then over the next 4 weeks you will see which items you are always using and need to leave out and the rest can go in a drawer/cupboard thats nearest to where you use it.

I think we just fill our cupboards to capacity depending on how much room we have and not depending on whether we actually use the items. Well I know I do, I get stuff out that I don't recognise when I'm deep cleaning and if its no use I get rid.

But I do go into Lakeland and buy gadgets that I can't be without and I do have a corner cupboard filled with stuff that I might just use one day, probably one day a year :rotfl:

  • I had a massive declutter recently, when changing kitchens and realised just how many "useful" gadgets I'd accumulated. When clearing out clothes and things I'm ruthless but now I can think of several kitchen things I wish I'd not thrown away, so be cautious - that apple corer / peeler would have been much appreciated when making mincemeat last week! If you have the space anywhere keep one!
We now just have a kettle, toaster and knife block out. The slow cooker may come out soon and stay for a couple of months. This is mostly because my OH has built me an amazing kitchen and for once I'm enjoying keeping everything clean and clutter free.
