I'm a hoarder but have been decluttering my house to get it looking lovely to sell, for months now. Have had much help from friends, sister, daughters - OH less helpful really ! Have chucked, freecycled and taken to charity shop till I'm completely fed up with it all, and have put some stuff into storage to decide about when I feel more human (suffering from depression as well , so it's all a very slow and uphill struggle) BUT I've got to a point like when you plateau when you've been dieting - I have a couple of rooms just to 'finish off' - the bedroom and my 'study' and i've got to the point where I just seem to stir things round and have no idea what to do with them any more - just so fed up with it all. Does anyone have any tips to get me past this obstacle - we need to get estate agent round and put house on market but I just can't seem to cope with those last few heaps of stuff and OH is getting impatient and it's reducing me to weepy heap daily. Any ideas ? (Please)0

A little more progress today. I emptied the coat cupboard and found 2 coats DS3 has grown out of long since which can go to the charity shop. A bonus was his Nintendo DS was in a pocket - it has been missing for over a year! Just going to go through the hats/gloves/scarves box and clear out what we don't need. That might be enough for today.
morganlefay - I know what you mean about the point where you just end up moving things around. I'm like that with my study. I just don't know what to do with some stuff. I've had to shut the door on it and do other things that are more achievable (i.e. one cupboard today).0 -
I've been doing the winter cleaning today. At least I can see out of my windows now
. I clearly need to pull my finger out though because I have both sisters coming down next week. One has never been to my house and she lives in a very uncluttered 5 bed house which was newly renovated and therefore sparkly clean. It's easy to keep on top of it when you don't have to do anything in it isn't it? Anyway, she'll probably be horrified by my house with the hallway having bare patches of plaster and crumbling walls. No carpet on the stairs and only plaster board on the inside walls of the bedrooms. One day we will get the hall stairs and landing done but I have no idea when it will be

morganlefay, why not go around each room with a notepad and makes notes of what needs doing and then set yourself a challenge on here to do ONE thing a day until it is all done and dusted? (if you do more, great, but even at one thing a day you will get there!) - also can your OH help out with this?Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup

Thanks dragon - wish I'd done that some months ago - now running out of time. The estate agent came round today to measure but still too messy to photograph. He behaved like a headmaster and said I'd 'done well' but needed to 'press on and get it all done' (like I'd been sitting on my bvm all summer eating chocs...)and I nearly hit him but heard my voice getting wobbly so just sat still and let OH talk to him.
I think I might have to resort to getting all the suitcases out of the loft and filling them with stuff which I can put in the garage and then in the boot of my car when garage is full. Or something.:(0 -
Had a push yesterday on clearing the boxes of fabric that "I'll do something with one day..." - I dug them all out from their various hiding places (wardrobes, under beds, in cupboards) and sorted through all 15 fruit trays:eek: I'm keeping 3 - in plain view so I make things quickly - 3 will be going to school straight after half term, SIL took some, one box will be going to the charity shop as soon as I can figure out which one I can get to, and the rest is only fit for the bin. We now have space to put other stuff away instead of looking like clutter - and as the landlord is likely to turn up sometime soon, that's definitely a good thing!
Now, what can I clear out next...?0 -

My ebay listings ended this evening and I have sold 14 items :j Mostly clothes that I no longer wear so not big money, but a little bit more space AND cash is all good.
I have a pile of cardboard and cans to go out to the recycling but it's damp and I'm in my pjs now, so will tackle that lot in the morn!0 -
Well our house is looking incredibly tidy at the moment, 2 viewings last week. 1 no feedback, 1 doesn't like the layout of the house so nothing happening from them but it does mean house is very clean and tidy and we're getting obsessed with putting stuff back in the correct place.
Nothing has come in in the last week other than food and a few bits of post, mostly which is now in the shredder/recycling bin!
Did sell a few surplus Guide badges so they're gone out now.
Also doing quite a bit of sewing - so it's good to see things created from my stash, even though it's not leaving yet (some are presents so will be).
Really need to get ebaying now, trouble is we're going away, in this country & I'll probably have time to do some ebaying whilst I'm there/am staying round the corner from a post office but don't know whether to leave it all until I get back or get some stuff on tomorrow night so I can post it whilst away if it sells/get some stuff ready to list on Sunday night whilst I'm away and so hopefully it will sell the weekend I'm back. Probably have about 20 listings already and think this will really help with the decluttering of stuff that, if we ever do move, I don't want to take.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Cleared out the kids crafty bits yesterday - 1 box to the bin, 2 boxes to playgroup if they want them, 1 box to keep! Completely emptied littlies bedroom today, only furniture left  and managed to get rid of 3 black binliners full of absolute carp before putting everything back. Also got 3 boxes of kids books to get rid of - I'm now wondering about waiting a week to get rid of all this stuff in case 1) playgroup don't want any of it and 2) I rediscover anything over the course of the week and find I can't live without it:rotfl:It's all going to have to live in the back of the car for now anyway or I'll break my neck just moving around! I'll have to stop decluttering now cos my bin's full - DS1 has already done the traditional trample ceremony in it, and we we don't get emptied until Friday week.0
