Well done on all your clearing :)

My DH took the vac to him a few weeks ago, he suggested that he (my DH) had a look at the plug and if that didn't work it was probably the motor, the model we have is difficult to get into. It is not the plug, so the man is buying it for spares. DH was recommended this man he has fixed a few vacs for people at his workplace so I guess we can trust him.

Right the weekend has started - I've taken pics of all the clothes that I didn't manage to sell at the car boot and typed up descriptions ready to cut and paste onto ebay tomorrow when I can list for free. Time for a glass of wine and to be even more ruthless with my wardrobe!

I never feel that chucking stuff out is very money saving but having more space and order will definitely make me feel better. Tidy home tidy mind isn't that what they say!

Phew that 6 black bags of clothes for the clothing bank and an even bigger bag than the last one for ebay! I'll start on the next lot of ebay stuff tomorrow though - that's enough for one night!

Has anyone used those cash for clothes shops? Thought that might ease my 'getting rid of decent clothes' guilt if I made some money from the stuff that wasn't in good enough condition for ebay. That's terrible - will just take to the clothing bank and do my bit for charity!

Last weekend we had a major declutter of the filing system - unintentional and as it was all in the filing cabinet and is now in the garage in bags of shredding it's a bit counter productive but it was really useful and motivating.

Tamed the jungle in the garden too and filled the green bin and tided stuff up which was good.

Haven't done much this week as been really busy at work but have an estate agent coming next week so we can try and sell again and so we need to have a clean and sort mission again to the house is ok for that and then take things from there.

Hi. lurker here who has been much inspired by the efforts shown in this thread.
I have a problem with the contents of a really large/jumbo bean bag. I've washed the cover and stowed it away but don't know what to do with the beans. The liner bag containing them is intact (has a zip for emptying) . I feel the need to dispose of the beans as the bag takes up masses of space, but also, having looked at the price to refill the liner at some time in the future, I thought of somehow storing the beans to use again when/if needed.I thought of decanting the beans into smaller bags and store by hanging from the rafters in the garage but I've read that they can degrade by exposure to extreme temperatures.
Should I just cut my losses and ask the guys down at the tip where I should stow them ?

Well I actually managed to declutter some of my kitchen. Cleaned, blitzed the surfaces, moved things around. And decided the Breadbin must go.
Ready to Freecycle possibly. Sorted out the kitchen drawer, why do I have so many knives and forks.??? I have only left 6 of each in the drawer. The rest are bagged up, ready to see if any of my kids need any, before donating to the charity? or freecycling them.
however the food cupboards and the gadget cupboard still need going through. Too heavy a task for me at the moment.
But I will try again as soon as my back is a bit better.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Are you really going to use the beans again? Why aren't you using the beanbag just now? I don't know if anyone saw the BBC documentary 'My mother the hoarder' (or words to that effect) the other night? My gran wasn't quite that extreme but hoarding definitely passes through generations (whether it's nature or nurture I don't know). But to save the whole of my tiny 2 bedroom flat becoming a storage area (the spare room already is) I am constantly asking myself whether I am really going to use it again. (I've only been doing this for the past couple of weeks so I haven't quite got it cracked yet!)

If you do really want to keep the beans - would one of those vacuum bags work? Obvs with the beans still in their liner!;)

I have used one (do you mean a nearly new shop - where they sell your stuff for you, and give you a percentage?) - they are very picky about what they will take, though. Has to be current, and in excellent condition. If it's not good enough for Ebay, it wouldn't be good enough for my nearly new shop.

I tend to send the odd thing there, and the rest all goes to the charity shop.
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.
