I meant the shops that give you 50p a kilo - my stuff was nowhere near good enough for a nearly new shop! It was still wearable but not nearly new. Had a look into it online and the clothes are sold on to second hand shops in Eastern Europe so I thought that it would be still be going to a good cause. The 6 bags came to 22 kgs so got £11. Almost enough to get a pair of shoes fixed - £13 to get shoes reheeled and new toes - crumbs!

Lyndy, I have thought about doing this as well. Hope you don't mind me asking but which company did you use? Did they pick up your bags from your home?

This weekend I have managed to throw away a pair of sandals that could not be repaired. Apart from that I have not managed to do a lot apart from washing and ironing. My contract is due to end at the end of September so a lot of my time during the weekends will be used to apply for work. Filling in an application form seems to take forever.

  • Today it is going very slowly. And by it I mean the decluttering.

Mum and I are not getting on- she keeps everything and worries about it all, I fight against this and want shot of pretty much the whole lot! It is not a nice atmosphere are the minute...

will report back later with progress. There must be progress!!!!

    xx
    Nevertheless she persisted.

I used Cash4Clothes. I've got a shop quite local to me so went there but they do collect from your house too. Don't know if they charge for this though. It was really quick and a lot of people seemed to be using it.

    50p per kilo for clothes
20p per kilo for household stuff/bric a brac and
    10p per kilo for books.

It was really quick way of getting rid of a load of stuff. Some of it might have made something on ebay but I find listing clothes on ebay such a drag. I've just listed 14 items during the free weekend and I'm so bored!

Found my 'de-clutter' mojo again :jand disappeared into the tall understairs cupboard, then later made DH empty his wardrobe & I also sorted the ex-uni bedding mountain.

    OUT:
    - 19 pairs of old glasses, going to the local optician for Vision Aid Overseas
    - 2 years worth of batteries, going to be recycled at Tesco
    - a box of bric-a-brac & 19 garments delivered to my mum for the CS
    - 3 single duvets & a bedcover for the homeless
    - 3 hangers to go back to the dry-cleaners
    -3 pillows & 2 cushions binned

Aiming to do the low understairs cupboard today, home of the deadly shoe monster ....
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

BF came over yesterday, and while he attacked the weeds in the garden I attacked the toy corner in the sitting room. My DGD seemed to have been taking over the front room.
I have now gained loads of space. Sorted out quiet a bit, dusted the sides, that i couldnt reach before, and cleared off the units. It looks really great. Till you get to the dining table infront of the window. Thats full of stuff that needs to be rehomed somewhere or other. be it back to the big children who no longer live here, or to the sewing/ironing or filing. Especially the filing!!
I will have to get my act together, we are on holiday next Tuesday and I still need to dig out the suitcases and pack! As well as my sewing jobs that I have. Managed to finish a skirt, top and shorts for DGD, but still have a dress for me, on top of the sewing jobs that earn me some pin money.
The electric is on emergency as I didnt go anywhere this weekend, and forgot to get it last week. Never ever got that low before.!
Oh well I will be able to get it later when I take DGD to Nursery.
Cut of tea time. Molly is due over, so hopefully she will be impressed with the difference. It has certainly been quite exilherating to see surfaces clean and dusted, and the corner reclaimed. There are still toys but not so many. Mind you we still have upstairs to sort out.!
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

I am about to tackle the pit commonly known as dd'd bedroom! My aim is to come out later today with at least 1 bag for ebay, 3 bags for freecycle/ charity shops and all of the rubbish. How can 1 7yr old have so much stuff? (most of it is handmedowns from her cousins and a friend who leave bin bags on my doorstep!) Then tomorrow after some fresh air, I will tackle the boys room. I am on annual leave this week so by the end of the week plan to have cleared the lounge, kitchen, 3 bedrooms and to reclaim my desk space in the hallway so I can work properly next week.
I then have to tackle the garage and shed which are full of the stuff that was packed into boxes ready for a complete rewire back in April, which has not even been touched yet. :(
    :embarasse
Big things to sort out but today is the start of recovery and way to a new debt free life.

DD just moved back to her uni house, she has gone early to keep a friend company and look for a job! I have yet to venture into the room she has left but I know it will need de-cluttering, will have a coffee then take the plunge.

    Have a great day de-cluttering.

never thought of this - got quite a few pairs - thanks for the tip

Haven't been on this thread for ages!!!

Brought a big bag of shredding to work today as I knew my little shredder at home would not be able to cope!

We had a really good paperwork sort out at the weekend and we nearly filled an empty green box with recycling (more to go in from bits that didn't need to be shredded!)

Things are starting to look much better in the spare room and the old computer desk is going to the charity I volunteer for tonight and is being replaced by a slim bookcase (with doors to hide things if necessary) - this will make the spare room much more functional again.

Amazing what you can get done when you have got people coming to stay for a few days - its a great incentive.

I thought you might mean something different. We don't have any shops like that, but I would do it for a bit of extra money. I tend to divide what I get rid of between family members (my boys' younger cousins), charity and selling on Amazon or at CEX (DS2 buys games using the profit from selling the old ones :D).

I persuaded my DH to take an enormous sack of bits and bobs to the CS at the weekend, as well as an almost life sized stuffed toy lion (my DSs used to play wrestling with it)! There's a lot more space in the bottom of DS2's wardrobe (where the lion was living) now :rotfl:
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.
