    Hi All,
not done much decluttering in the last couple of days, been stressing about seing a specialists about an on going problem, but good news there is some hope that things can be improved, fingers crossed.
Only decluttering i managed was selling some old bits of gold (more bits that i had inherited but either didnt like, had no memories attached or was broken) made £52 really happy, but not sure what to spent it on, moneysaving wise should put it towards paying off DH overdraught (but would rather have something to remember mum by and overdraught is the only debt we have except the morgage)
Hope all works out well for you.
Re the gold: Now obviously the money ought to be put towards debt BUT.... it hasn't been yet. Only you can work out the absolute best plan of action for the cash but I would actually count it as an inheritance.
I think that you should have a look around and put it towards something for you to remember your Mum by. If jewellery is your thing, then go for jewellery but it could be equally as rewarding investing it towards a nice piece of furniture or something tangible for the home or garden.
I suppose it depends what spirit the jewellery was gifted to you in. Was it an "I've got this but don't like it/ wear it, do you want it?" or a gift or was it a bequest? That might help to form your decision.

This morning, I have decluttered the front garden of some weeds whilst chatting to my neighbour and her sister. It looks neater out there now. DH and I are hoping to get stuff shifted this weekend. (Well I'm hoping to, I think he's hoping for gale force winds and rain so he doesn't have to do it!).
I will do a further weeding in a few weeks when the seedlings have had a chance to grow so that I don't start pulling up actual flowers.
    Happy Friday all.

Hmm.. well a week into my declutter, I appear to have got no where. I have not really managed to get rid of anything, have found I am just tidying up the clutter!!!
I have managed to list a couple of items on ebay and one has a bid so that will go at the weekend (only small things, clothes I no longer wear). Have a couple more things I can put on later, but need to really attack my clothes and get my wardrobe more steamlined!
But have not even been into the spare room that is stuffed full of things, and am finding if something does not have a home I am just dumping it in the spare room. Really need to buck up the courage to get rid of stuff!!!
But on a positive note, the weather here is good today so going to get as much washing done and dried as I can today, and I AM GOING TO PUT IT ALL AWAY!!!!:j
2011 is the year to Declutter!!! Trying to live a more streamlined life!!
On a mortgage free quest!!! Interest saved through overpayments over £4K!!:D

Oh just noticed this thread and I really want to join in - I've made good progress decrapifying my own stuff (and DD's) over the last few years....but how do you do this when your other half is the worlds biggest hoarder?!

He has the whole loft room for his stuff which now looks like a bombs hit it, its so bad his 'stuff' is now taking over our bedroom and also my living room. Only the dining room and kitchen remain free of stuff and only because I move his stuff out of there (which he's not happy with).
Fair enough he mends/builds PCs for friends and does technical stuff for hobbies etc but he hoards gardets/wires/leads/computer bits like there's no tomorrow. I can't go through it all because he reckons he needs it all, and I don't know what half of it actually is LOL!

I've hit a brick wall and it does get depressing trying to keep the house tidy. I'm embarrrassed when people come round cos I think it looks like I'm messy when I'm not.

avstar, I think that you need to call a family meeting. TELL your DH your concerns. I would get him to agree to keep his stuff IN 'his' area, ie the loft room. Any overflow has to be sold or got rid of in another way. Ask him how he would function if it was a business? He would order in the parts he needed wouldn't he?
Does he have an adequate filing/ storage system for his bits and bobs? If not, perhaps you could both agree to get rid of a load of stuff on ebay in order to fundraise enough to get him good storage. I espescially like the garage stuff that someone had on here.
Then, he needs to operate on a 1 in 1 out policy. If he doesn't have space to keep it, he needs to sell it or get rid of something else.

I've got rid of 1 carload of stones today. Also found the stone which was missing from our wall. Once the temperature has warmed up a little bit, I'll get DH to reset it. Also decluttered some seeds into some pots so they can sit and get growing for me. Flowers make me smile and it's lovely having pots on my windowsills :)

Bag of books to CS, along with a beautifully thick but not my thing pullover style fleece, a pair of walking sandals that are no longer needed due to arthritis, not my thing bootee slippers and feathery mules, and a gorgeous pair of Windsmoor trousers that were part of a set I was gifted - just a little too short.
Out for the bin, another pair of walking sandals that were a bit too worn for the CS.
Put to one side for friend who needs them: a set of cloth table mats, a make-up bag and a blue wire mesh bin.

How about getting a picture of you/her made into a canvas? Or buying an ornament to remember her by. Buy something - don't fritter it away (which I often do). I have a gold necklace too but you've been braver than me and sold it. I know I need to (it's just not a popular style) but tis hard. :A

Hi All - I'm back after an absence of 6 months :o:o:o. I've not completely re-cluttered the house in that time but some bad habits are starting to creep back in (CS addiction - thought I'd kicked that one....). Did manage to de-clutter 10kg through going to the gym though :j

This has at least galvanised me into making a start on the decluttering this week - so far:

    Out
Binbag full of water damaged items :(
Water damaged child's car seat :(
    Water damaged rug :(
    Mouldy laundry basket :o
2 large bin-liners of stuff to CS
childs table & chair - left outside house
stationery bits & top to friend
stock of jewellry that I'd been storing for friend after doing a stall for her
    vast quantities of recycling

I'm up for a 30 item challenge for the weekend Mineallmine - (you are a decluttering inspiratation btw... )
    You too :A

Actually, dependant on the weather, I pledge two carfulls of stuff and an old carpet. Let's see.
Oh an in (I can hear DH pulling up outside with it now.... a new microwave. Just set fire to the old one. I know, I know, there are easier and safer ways to declutter!
    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Yep, I'm up for it. I've not posted on here for months, probably since last summer, when I lost my motivation. Don't know what happened since as I was doing really well with my "Wave bye bye to 100 things in 10 days" routine, but now the stuff has started to creep back in and take over again.

We have now decided that we'd like to downsize in 2012, so the Big Declutter has started. I currently have the box room packed to the rafters with my craft supplies - cross stitch, sewing, card making and scrapbooking stuff - with no room for anything else and no room to move. Plus sewing fabric in the spare room and cupboard under the stairs. So my aim for this year is to use up what I can and sell/freegle/give away the majority of it so the box room can look like a bedroom again.

There is plenty to declutter in the loft as well, which has again turned into a dumping ground for anything we don't want in the house, plus anything our 2 daughters can't fit into their houses!

So yes, count me in for this weekend. Will post pics when (and if) I can, I find that spurs me on, actually seeing the amount of stuff that's going, all in one place!
Hello loopychriss! Long time no see. Our original inspiration is your good self for mini challenges such as get rid of 100 things in 10 days. Good to see you back. You'll get that spare room sorted, I need to as well!

So who's up for a weekend challenge of getting rid of say - 30 things over this weekend?

Our local hospice charity shop is looking decidedly empty of stuff and I still have so much *stuff*.
    Right I've started early!
1.2.3. Unloved food bits from the cupboard donated to a neighbour and warmly welcomed (friend)
    4. Unloved (rubbish) toiletry hair treatment thing, unused (charity)

Result = one much less cluttered cupboard already, come on!

I've started so I'll finish.... How's everyone else getting on? Be great to see some pics too :)

I'm up for the 30 things in the weekend challenge too :D. I haven't posted for a while but have been doing really well. Last weekend we went through our fiction books and took 90 to charity, 20 set aside for Amazon. I have another 40 books from our home office to take to the charity shop tomorrow too. I also decluttered my jewellery and have about 10 items for charity and 4 to sell, lots of broken and odd bits went in the bin. However, I am still feeling overwhelmed with the amount there is to do in the house. We built two double wardrobes in our new loft room to put our excess things in, these are already full and we now have about 10 boxes of stuff along the walls in that room, and 12 massive boxes of stuff in our dining room too. :( I had a valuation earlier in the week, and ended up just stuffing things in carrier bags and putting them in the new cupboards to hide the mess :o.

We are busy this weekend, but if I can do 30 things at least I know I am heading in the right direction, right?

I won't count the 30 books, but will count anything else.
1 - empty travel size shower gel bottle into recycling (I have been using up my sample size items to declutter the bathroom cabinets, which have stayed decluttered since I've done them!)
2 - one trolley load of books (decided to count it as it was blinking heavy and took me 1/2 hr to take it there!)
3 - vintage mirror dropped off at friends today
4 - one old dirty broken fabric blind into recycling (may not take it!)
5 - poster and old annual from DD's room into recycling
6 and 7 - two carrier bags of books and magazines from DD's room for school tomorrow (40ish items)
8 - pair of very worn fabric shoes into recycling
9 - 14 jam jars into recycling (I still have 16 left, which is plenty should I ever get round to making something that needs to go in a jar!)
10 - two plastic water bottles into recycling
11 - one not complete ice-cream mould into recycling
12 - one pack of betty crockers brownies made for DD and OH (I can't eat it, and have a year's supply!)
13 - staple gun returned to friend
    14 - 12 towels to charity
14 - 4 pillowcases to charity (gorgeous, but don't go with anything we have!)
15 - one double bed set to charity
    16 - dress I haven't worn in over a year to charity
17 - two storage bags - one with zip broken to bin, one working to charity

OK - I'm going to call this a success as although looks like only 17, if you counted the items individually would be over 100 items gone! :j
