I made a small start today. I went through one of DS toy boxes, it's one we put in all the small things like toys from the front of a magazine he's been given. I threw out a bag full of either broken things or ones he hasn't ever touched. It's a start...0

Got to the tip today and disposed of half a boot of DH magazines (eeek), An old baby bath , various bits and pieces. Attempted to do the declutter of the front room toys as it looks like Yoys r us has exploded in my front room , however only managed eating at ikea as they didnt have the storage boxes I wanted and when I got to the checkout half the staff were on and the queues were about a 20 min wait. Will have to go and looksee in the discount shops nearby.
Any one got any ideas for storage solutions .

Get rid of 100 things in 10 days
not sure what to count as a "thing" (if I counted individual sheets of paper I'd get to my total pretty quickly) but decided not to waste time thinking about that and declutter some junk (however small!)
so far...
1. paper recycled
2. bottles/jars recycled
3. cans recycled
4. old Radio Times
5. 2010 diary
6. 2010 calendar
7. broken necklace (kept for ages in case I could mend it, never liked it that much in first place!)
8. old newsletter
9. old lip gloss
10. old lip salve
11. various lids etc from make up bag
12. empty vitamin packet
13. papers on fridge - filed or chucked
I know a lot of these things are only tinybut I'm new at this! the old diary/calendar would normally be put in a draw somewhere - just in case!
got a bag for charity shop and a pile of things to return to friends, but will count those when I have actually got rid of themweaving through the chaos...0 -

Decluttering - January 2024 - 89 physical objects, over 700 emails/digital decluttering 🎊 🏅🏅0 -
So far today...
- Sorted and cleaned glass / cup cupboard which actually wasn't too bad but have chucked a load of plastic cups that cam home from holidays and are a bit worse for wear (eg one with a headless Mickey mouse on it!). Glasses and cups are now arranged tidily instead of chucked in anywhere.
- Christmas tree is down, tatty decorations binned and rest put away properly in boxes and stored in crate instead of all chucked into carriers. Floor swept and washed and furniture back in proper places.
- All DH's DIY stuff in shed except for one tool box and he says he needs that to put base boards back under cupboards tomorrow. We had the floor redone weeks ago and the boards are still waiting to go back on, grr!
- Pile of junk cleared from top of shoe cupboard and scrapbooking stuff that was in a scratty torn carrier bag has been transferred into nice box that Thorntons hamper came in.
- DH has sorted out his clothes, although he only got rid of three tops!
- Cupboard under the stairs is sorted and we have room for boots and vegetables, yay! Loads of junk went in the bin from there and we have a gym ball and a sky box that I've put on Freegle.
- Also Freegle'd the rabbit hutch that has been stood empty since october. If that goes we can organise the bin and recycling boxes a bit more tidily.

14. broken hairbrush
15. adult education prospectus (out of date)
16. DD gone through felt pens and thrown out ones that don't work
17. sneaked one of DD's v old grotty T-shirts into bin (would normally use as duster but if she doesn't see it she wont complain!)weaving through the chaos...0 -
Oooo. 100 things in 10 days sounds just the spur I need to get rid of the filing cabinets and most of their contents that are in my dining room. I may wait and start it properly when DS is back at school though.
I have great plans for decluttering this year. Was supposed to be doing it between Xmas and the New Year but that time has just slipped by somehow.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
OUT:
DS1 & 2 cleared several boxes of old toys from our loft: they're now in my neighbour's loft for her DS to grow into
Several empty boxes into the recycling (my boys were hoarders!)
Now there's space for me to sort out my junk - oh, dear:eek:I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
What I though was going to be an easy task - washing the kitchen floor- has turned out to be a non-starter. This was due to DH having used my mop bucket for something or other. I daren't ask, it's easier to buy a new bucket.
Just realised that this is how my house has become so cluttered. DH uses things and I go out and buy a replacement. Then the original item is ruined or of no further use and it just gets put somewhere where it will remain for years.
So anyway, instead of the floor I tidied the remaining worktop so I don't have to do it tomorrow.
Tomorrow I have the sink and base unit to clean, the washer and small fridge and take the tree down. If I can get hold of a bucket then I'll do the kitchen floor.
I never realised how addictive this cleaning business can be. I only ever used to properly clean when I was depressed so it might take me some time to associate it with being a good thing to do.
If that makes any sense.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000
