The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

I would like to join in as well. I was an avid lurker on last year's thread and took a lot of encouragement and ideas from it. Judging from the state of my house though I need to significantly increase my efforts in 2011 and be a lot more ruthless! My biggest problem is that my OH and teenage DS (14) are both compulsive hoarders and never willingly throw anything out. In fact my OH even keeps broken electrical items in case he can reuse parts of them  Thankfully the fourth member of our household DD (9) doesn't mind decluttering her things, so at least I have one ally. :A
DD and I looked through her videos and DVDs yesterday and selected six or seven that she doesn't want any more as she is too old for them. These have now gone to her younger cousins and so our 'Great Declutter' has started by cluttering up someone else's house.:D
PS, I have just read this e-mail out to my family before posting and OH and DS are both complaining that I don't understand them and threatening to sue me for defamation of character!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Decluttered the Chrsitmas decorations and one tree back away yesterday, don't have the heart to take down the real one in the lounge yet, it hasn't lost a single needle but will take it down tomorrow.
Tidied out my wardrobe and listed some bits on ebay, need to go through OH's wardrobe and the DS's and get sorting those out too.
DS1 bakc to school wed. DS2 not back until next Mon, but they tend to play in DS1's room so its forever full of wrappers / rubbish - he's not a teeneager yet but the bedroom says he is, the big plan for this year is to re-do his bedroom, he has a hi-sleeper but he's never really liked it, we got it free from a friend, but once we got into Spring I am going to hire a skip (this is the bit I'm most looking forward to) and then the bed will have to go in it, it is wrecked so no-body else would want it, I tidied out under his drawers before Christmas and managed to find a clothes label saying age 8 -he's 12 this year!!!!!!!!!!!

Achieved a mini goal! Understairs cupboard done!
I've worked my socks off today. I've achieved one of my goals. I attacked the understairs cupboard again and now have room for the hoover! There are bags in there that need sorting but priority was to be able to fit the hoover. I gave some furniture to a couple who were well chuffed.

Hello all
Well so far today I've cleard one of the worktops off and cleared the other half of the kitchen floor.
4 small sacks of rubbish - how disgraceful! In my defence one of my base units doesn't have the plinths at the bottom so loads of stuff finds its way underneath. I even found a wheel trim from DH's car (I've given up asking about how odd things find their way into our house *rolls eyes*) under there. I just need to wash the floor which I shall do in a bit.
I've been cleaning the cupboard doors as I've gone along and they look great, really sparkling white. I just need to tidy the other worktop and sink tomorrow and it will look heaps better.
My DH did complain that I'd created even more bags of rubbish for the dustbin men. Due to them not turning up on Thursday there's 5 at the gate, 2 outside my front door and the 4 small ones in the hall ready to go out. I think I'll leave some for the week after, the ones which don't contain food. I did think to myself "Why don't you stop complaining and take them to the tip then?" but I kept quiet since he's gone out in my car.
My house is no longer my enemypretty soon it might turn into my home!
