The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

My new cleaner took a large foam wedge pillow off my hands and has also said she will take items to charity shop for me. Cynical me rather thinks she will be off car booting the stuff, as she probably gets offered lots of bits and pieces as she cleans people's homes. I will probably charity shop them myself.
On the plus side, she is a really good cleaner and I love the way she has re-organised my kitchen and bathroom.
Yesterday I took eight mugs and my old rapid boil kettle in to work. I sat down with some new learners for a break in the afternoon and I'd supplied every single one of the mugs the nine people present used! Plus my friend has said she is short of mugs, do I have any spare?!!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
That's simialr to how we ended up like this cat04 too. We moved into our house on the 28th May 2005. It needed everything doing to it. Wiring, plumbing, heating, kitchen, bathroom. The whole shebang. We have ripped walls down, moved doorways and replastered every room (except the hallway which is left to finish). So we never actually unpacked properly until a room had to be emptied to 'do' it and then we bought the correct furniture and put back. Even so, we still have more storage here than we did in our flat.
As we are getting to the end of the house, we have adequate furniture and adequate storage. We have unpacked each room and I have decluttered along the way.
Wow, that sounds like a project and a half! We don't even have the excuse of having to re-do the whole house, although our spare bedroom is half stripped and really needs us to make a proper start on it, but with our general laidbackness (is that even a word?!?) and weekend plans we don't often get the time to start it. Doing things with the kids/family etc mean we only get chance to do the little decluttering jobs as we go along, rather then being able to dedicate a full weekend to DIY.
Been to Tesco with the girls this afternoon, so brought a lot in, but the cupboards were literally bare so it's all put away and there's still space for more lol. Bought some new tops for the girls on their 3 4 2 on kids clothes, which they really needed, but it means that we're going to go through their drawers and wardrobe this afternoon to see what we can send off to the CS or save for DD2 to grow into.Extra savings aim for 2020 £4,000 £0/£4,000

First tip run done this morning...:j
Plan tonight once kids are in bed is to really sort out the front hall. I plan on taking DD's bike in tomorrow morning to get fixed and hopefully i'll have another couple of bin bags full for the tip.
My washing pile is nearly gone so i can actual sort the utility room out, loads of old rubbish in there as well as stuff that should be in the attic, there's even christmas cards in there.Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough. And things go wrong no matter what I do.Now and then it seems that life is just too much. But you've got the love I need to see me through.:j :j0 -

My dil gave me a kenwood chef & attachments belonging to her grandma. My DH nearly had a duckfit when I dropped off 6 boxes on Monday eve!! So I have put kenwood chef on the worktop (with it's cover and bowl) and that got rid of 1 box - the biggest.
So yesterday I cleared under the stairs - some items for the CS, others thrown, or added to my ikea bag of bits for the alloment shed. Then I put a box of wine making & jam jars etc up in my craft room. The other 5 boxes fitted in there. (2 of them temporarily as my dil will be able to make use of them as not part of the kenwood stuff).
Popped into loft this evening - and brought down 2 black bags of clothes and shoes for the recycling bins - will take them tonight when I pick up my DH from work at Sains. There are also 2 boxes of rubbish and 1 box of recyclables up there ready to be brought down. 1/2 the loft tidied now - 3 years rubbish accumulated.0 -
There is a really good programme on organising and decluttering currently available on 4 on Demand - am I allowed to name it on here, or link to it? I 'treat' myself to watching one episode a day whilst drinking a cup of tea!Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

I'm interested to know what it is/watch it. I need all the motivation I can get! x0 -
Thanks FelinePrincess, i'm really going to get on with it this week. I hate it at the minute. At least once it's cleared i can get the tracking done in there and then we won't be tripping up on extention leads. :rotfl:
Glad to be of assistanceMy hall has an extension lead going across it as well, I'm constantly tripping over it but doesn't seem to be much point doing anything about it till the hall has been re-plastered.
