The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Loved the story of your camera battery cover Kaz, just goes to show you never know when you might be re-united with somethingFront hall full of broken, unused and things with no home. It doesn't look like a front hall just a dumping ground. So my plan is to put the back seats down in the car tonight and fill the boot. Then tomorrow i have no choice but to go to the recycling place.
Need to also get a move on with decorating the house as i've been ''sorting my hall'' for over a month.:o It only needs a lick of paint and at least then i could go get a carpet for it.
Someone please kick me hard.....:rotfl:
My hall tends to be the same - ends up full of stuff either just brought into the house and yet to be 'homed' or 'pending out' stuff as well as general junk that I don't want cluttering up any rooms! My hall is very small - basically doorway width so leaving stuff there is a bit of a health hazard and I'm sure constantly walking past things sideways is hurting my back!
Anyway, what I wanted to say was I have now cleared the hall and I'm determined to keep it clear because it's so nice when you come into the house the first thing you see is a nice, clear hall instead of a pile of junk! Apparently it's bad feng shui to have a cluttered hallway, I'm on the fence about feng shui but I certainly feel much better about my house now the hallway is clear, so my advice to you is get it done - it's worth it!!Talking to OH last night in bed I realised where the problem stems from. The home we rented for just over a year from a friend of a friend as a put on for 'a few months' whilst I waited for my divorce and financial settlement (that took longer than expected) was too small really. It was a 3 bed 2 year old house with no garage and we didn't have proper storage (we wanted to wait to buy for our new home, rather than buying things that didn't fit/suit when we moved). Whilst there my ex finally decided I was 'allowed' my things back so we had a sudden influx of belongings from my childhood onwards, and we were packed to the rafters until we moved. Therefore, we kind of set the standard as it were, and although our new home (been here a year now) is much, much bigger, we are got stuck in the rut of not finding proper homes for things/allowing ourselves to live with general clutter etc. Now it's finally dawned on us, we now have to re-train ourselves (and the kids!) to get the house how we want it - and keep it that way!
It's nice to read how others got into their 'clutter-rut'Mine began when oh decided to replace the kitchen, took everything out then didn't do anything else for about 2 years!!!! I didn't really nag him about it at the time as I was working 5 days and 5 nights a week so was really only at home to sleep! Anyway, everything from the kitchen went into the tiny living room which immediately became unuseable, kitchen was useless as it was empty so we were basically living in the only other room - the bedroom! As the living room was already un-useable, more and more stuff ended up being ditched there - in the end there was just small path across the room clear leading to the electric meter! I really wish I'd taken 'before' pics before we started de-cluttering
Anyway, no de-cluttering from me todaybut my new porch was fitted, they are finishing it off tomorrow
Next job for the builder will be re-plastering the hall. As a result of the old porch being dismantled we have lots of firewood so we have a nice cosy fire this evening
Keep up the good work everyone!0 -

Thanks FelinePrincess, i'm really going to get on with it this week. I hate it at the minute. At least once it's cleared i can get the tracking done in there and then we won't be tripping up on extention leads. :rotfl:
Car boot was filled last night so it will be took to the tip today. All big stuff going first so i think there may be another run or two yet but at least it's something out.Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough. And things go wrong no matter what I do.Now and then it seems that life is just too much. But you've got the love I need to see me through.:j :j0 -
Hello all
Not much decluttering been going on but I have nearly conquered the ironing mountain. We can now sit on the two dining chairs that were holding the majority of the ironing.
Went up to spare room and found that there are only a few things left in the basket to iron. I found 2 pairs of shorts in there from last summer, just shows how long it is since I reached the bottom
Just folded them up. Will iron them before wearing in the summer.
Now just have to pair up the socks.
Have some washing on airer so if that is dry tonight will iron that and the remaining stuff in the basket.
Pleased to report though that the spare room which used to be DD`s room is nearly clear of rubbish/stuff. She left home over 2 years ago and it has been a dumping ground ever since.
Can finally walk on the floor instead of having to move bags of stuff around. Realised that we do not have a lampshade in there but found one in a downstairs cupboard yesterday which we can use.
The bed is nearly clear, just a few sweatshirts/jumpers that DS is giving to a friend. Will have to ask him to take those soon.
Will then need to wash bedding and curtains and clean everything and can think about using the room again.
Good luck with the decluttering everyone.0 -

Hey all,
Been busy decluttering this week.
I removed everything from the cabinet in the dining room yesterday, polished it, then only put back the photos and a few ornaments. Some of the ornaments have gone in the charity bag and the rest of the rubbish that had accumulated i sorted through and binned.
I also sorted out all of the cuttings of recipes that have accumulated and glued them into my recipe scrapbook (which is sorted by starter/meal/pudding?!)
I listed our old hoover on freecycle.
I listed most of my excess avon stock on ebay.
I'm quite happy with my productiveness whilst juggling a hyperactive 5yr old! The joys of half term!DFBX2016 #160 - £3550/£8800

Woohoo! Roof bars now collected so that's another item gone
. They only sold for £44 in the end. Chap said he'd bid up to £100 on some the previous week and got outbid. Never mind, I can't use them and listed them at a £20.99 start price. That's £39.60 towards my dining room decor which I didn't have and another space cleared which I didn't have. 2 more items finishing today. Was happily telling DH what we had made last night, he seemed impressed although I've had a pig of a bunch of sales with this lot.

In yesterdays charity bag there wer 3 suit jackets belonging to OH :-
none had been worn for 18 months +
2 had holes in the linings
none of the jackets had matching trousers anymore
1 didn't fit!
So I have some space in the wardrobe for some of my stuff!:D:D:D
I should point out that in a 4 door wardrobe he has filled all but 1 section of it! Since I joined slimming world and started to declutter some weight I have started to be interested in clothes again...:rotfl::jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
Hi all i sort of lost the way over the weekend! All my grand plans sort of flopped! Anyway i'm at 20/100. So 8 days to go. Sold 2 things on ebay, 1 unsold will go into car boot box which is gradually getting fuller!! Then will put my wedding dress on sellmywedding dress i think. Ebay is not working so hopefully this will. Just want it gone and plus the money would be good! Am thinking of getting rid of a lot of cds as well. Just putting the songs i like onto Ipod instead of having all the other rubbish!! Some special ones I will keep. Trying to summon up the energy to do the understairs cupboard which is a constant problem. It has loads of storage so don't know why it never seems to stay tidy??!! Really tired today which doesn't help! xxIf music be the food of love then play on"No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow". ღ ~Maya AngelouDoing it for my kids. For a better secure life. x0
