The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

I'm sort of sad and sort of happy.
I have recycled 3 bags of clothes so now have a lovely clear shelf in my wardrobe. I'm sad though because some of the clothes I put out are lovely. I got given them when I was pregnant (so I didn't pay anything for them) from someone who was finishing work so wouldn't need formal stuff any more. But I've put weight on, and they don't fit me. I sorted them for 2 reasons - one, they made me feel guilty (I should do something about my weight but I will be better placed to do so when I start treatment for my mental health issues) and two, I have adopted a new philosophy that if someone else will enjoy using my stuff more than I will then I would rather it gets used. Sitting on the wardrobe shelf meant I didn't even look at it.
I know someone else will be thrilled with it though, and it went to charity so lots of good will come from it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

(((Hugs))) to you,and well done.Your reasoning is very sound. This is not easy to do,I know.
A while back I was quite ill and lost loads of weight. In fact I was underweight for quite a while, and had to buy lots of new clothes.I've been better for a few years, and am back to a normal weight.Lots of my clothes don't fit of course, but I'm loathe to get rid of them.I know that I'll never get into them again. To clear space,I've recently given about half away.At least it's a start....0 -
11. 12. Toiletries to work (outta the house!)
13. S&G tote box (charity) - this used to store all my toiletry stash but now that is smaller thanks to the toiletry challenge I have less stuff. And in its place my suitcase now fits.
14. 15. More unused toiletries to charity, a freebie blusher I got the other day and stuff (charity)
16. OH has sorted more stuff, this time a coat (charity)
17. A DS case (charity)
18. Odd PC bits, labelled and added to charity bag (charity)
19. Toiletries used up, several bits mix of (bin) and (recycle)
20. Old make up bits that I couldn't remember when I first opened them, some eye products so better safe than sorry (bin)
Right, done!! Going to order my treat now - only about a £20 spend for getting rid of £20 things. Don't use that carrot method all the time but useful now and then.
How has everyone else got on? I'm definitely getting the decluttering bug againDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I bet you'll be able to pick up some lovely things at a charity shop soon, to be comfortable as you are :ADeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I didn't do much actual decluttering this week, but FIL is up to visit and agreed to fill up his huge people carrier with all our cardboard and took it down to our recycling centre (local council doesn't do kerbside recycling for our flat ) from the year we've lived here - mostly flat pack boxes from furniture we had to purchase. It was taking up nearly a quarter of our spare room. So happy to have that space back, even if we don't have anything to put in there! :j0

ETA: Plus I've emptied a bottle of red to put out for recycling *hic*Illegitimi non carborundum.0 -
1. Emptied and recycled 2 carrier bags of walk leaflets that we will never go on. (8 miles!! - not in your wildest dreams)
2. Got rid of out of date local event sheets.
3. Put ribbons and 'memory' items away in craft room, ready for use, and threw away items not needed.
4. Got 4 envelopes ready for posting - seed swaps.
5. Got rid of 3 large bags of plastic bottles - used to use at the allotment.
6. Put pile of library books together that will go back tomorrow.
7. Put 6 new items on the seed swap site that I have too many of.
8. Sorted through 4 old gardening magazines, took out the parts I will use again for veg gardening, and put rest in recycling for tomorrow.
9. Sorted though clothes and put in recycling bag items too tatty to even wear to the allotment.
10. Recycled the chicken poo etc by adding to the compost pile at the allotment - 1 wheelbarrow full as I had been saving for a while!!

After my box sorting/flattening/storing this morning I wasn't planning on more decluttering, but since I was in the mood...
Kitchen cupboard cleared out (first time in 4.5 years:o:o ) - one huge black bag for the bin, plus two large carrier bags stuffed with carrier bags taken to the carrier bag recycling.
13 bottles to the bottle bank.
Bathroom cleaned (thoroughly, for a change) - five empty/old/unusable toiletries bottles binned.
Four broken ring-binders binned.
Couple of packets of out of date vitamins binned.
I handed OH small pile of (his) magazines to sort and later found them next to the recycling pile. When I asked him if the'd sorted them for recycling he said, 'no, I just put them there.'
And finally...
Christmas pudding bought for Christmas 2009, consumed!!! :j:j:j0
