The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

I have sort of decluttered a badly -injured fish slice by chucking it out of my flat and replacing it with one from Mum's; sort of outsourcing your decluttering. As a lifelong hoarder, my Mum has everything you might possibly need in triplicate and gladly shares (she's a lovely Mum).
Have also given her my Yellow Pages, which arrived 2 days ago and which I never use and begrudge giving house-room to. Mum lives on the cusp of 2 areas for the YP and mine covers her other area so is potentially useful. Does anyone know how you can opt-out of getting these and the phone books, btw? I would like to pre-junk rather than de-junk......
Other than that, I have decluttered myself from my own flat for 48 hours, can I get marks for that?
Ahem, unless it is raining cats and dogs, I will be browsing my first bootsale of 2011 this Sunday (slight trembling of hands at prospect). I'll be gooooooood.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

4 items sold on ebay, 3 relisted. I've got more things finishing over the next few days so hopefully I'll be able to get rid of the ironing basketfull of ebay items.
Still not found the charm. I've been in bed all day and then trying to work out combining shipping on ebay this evening.
DH has promised to help me get some stuff in the loft tomorrow so he better had!
IN: new laptop charger £7.50 on ebay works a dream as opposed to the £54.99 upwards wanted by those robbing *insert favoured expletive* at PC w*rld.
Kids finished for 1/2 term now so hopefully we'll have some fun time next week.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Marmiterulesok - not sure if it's a roll or sheer desperation! I run a business from home, plus we have a three-bedroomed-house-worth of furniture in a two-bed flat plus garage. To cut a long story short I accumulated a lot of stuff when my mother decided to downsize, and I hadn't fully moved out of her house yet (I did get rid of half my stuff when I packed up what I had in her house, and since then have got rid of at least 30% of what I kept).
OH and I both have hoarding tendencies, though I've gradually learned not to hoard. Most of the stuff we have is 'mine' but I'm better at being ruthless. I'm very aware that when we next move we probably won't be able to afford anything bigger than the flat we're in currently, so every few bags I give to charity is another box I won't have to pack/move/unpack/cram in when moving time comes.
It feels like I'm skirting round the edges at the moment - I'll merrily sort books and CDs, but dread tidying my desk (a 2 hour task), and that's a priority as I'm planning adding an over-desk shelf.
Poorly people - hope you all feel better soon, and don't give me what you've got!0 -

Hi all - had a busy few days so not much decluttering done. Looks like I've sold my Table Top oven on Preloved - being collected today & DH found an empty box in the loft (dont ask!) that is just the right size so hopefully 2 things gone & a bit of dosh. I spent a whole day loading the programme on my PC & connecting all the cables to transfer VHS video's to DVD - & it didn't work - GRRRR! Will have to go over to the Techie thread & get some advice as I'm DETERMINED to get rid of all the VHS tapes! Going to Kent tomorrow to pick up a woodburner - fingers crossed that its all OK but sounds good so far
Happy decluttering weekend to all - esp if the weather is going to be c**p!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

Well yesterday I didn't move from the bed or the settee - shows how ill I was as I'm rubbish at just lying there normally and watching tv.
Today I've done a few bits like putting washing away and putting another load on with lots of breaks and I've done our accounts for the week so some receipts shredded and now I've got OH to scan my docs in for me so I can finally get money out of my paypal account - not decluttering but I'd rather have it in my bank account than sitting in paypal!
Haven't been very good at keeping up with ins this week, have mainly been badges for the Brownies & Guides, all envelopes recycled & stamps collected for charity, a couple of different carpet cleaning solutions which OH is trying out and food so nothing that will take up space etc which is good.
Had a letter to say the theatre I volunteer at is having a bric a brac and book stand in 4 weeks time for fundraising in the city centre - I've done pretty well at getting rid of stuff already to charity shops but that's an incentive to find them some more things and to review the books I've got on GM/Amazon then and give them some of the more general unsold ones.
Horrid weather here so the slow and steady decluttering will continue here all weekend I think.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
