  • Today's decluttering goals/plan:

-Attempt 2 at taking 2-3 carrier bags to the textiles bank. I went a few days ago but both banks were full and overflowing so I took my bags home again.
-Try to gather some enthusiasm for tackling three problem areas - my desk, the coffee table and the top of my chest of drawers - all magnets for junk.
-Ongoing book cull, though I think I've managed to overstock one of the local charity shops already as they're having a BOGOF on books (a large number of which seem to have been mine).

I did have one sort-of slip up yesterday, when I unpacked some side plates, soup bowls and a cookie jar from a box in the garage and put them in the kitchen. Well, at least we have more than two matching bowls to hand now.
  • That's truly impressive Laura - most of our charity shops are crying out for books and you cause an overstocking crisis at yours!
About to tackle ironing with the intention of weeding out some items for CS.... I must be ruthless, I must be ruthless...
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • I have about 15 items listed on e-bay at the moment.

Have just sold another 2 CDs on Amazon, and there is a large bag waiting to be taken to the charity shop.

And another large bag of clothes for a homeless project near to me.

Woo, 7 of my 16 items on ebay will sell and there's still a day left so hopefully some of the others will get bids on them too. I felt so ill yesterday, felt really sick so couldn't eat, but also felt sick because I hadn't eaten for so long...catch 22! Got through it though, but this meant that yet again another no declutter day apart from a bit of packaging and a few bits of junk mail into the recycling bin. Today I have woken up much better, although still not 100% (OH and I worked out that I have been ill in some way for the whole of 2011 :( ) and will get the living room tidy:
Fold and put away clean washing
Put kids toys back in the playroom
    Declutter the sides and windowsill
Dust the surfaces and sweep the floor (we have laminate and tiles throughout the whole of downstairs)

I WILL get these done today otherwise I shall be cross with myself, I know it's not my fault I haven't been able to keep on top of the housework with feeling so rough, but it really, really annoys me seeing the house messy :(

  • Good afternoon  I've decluttered DS off on a ski trip :)

I spent the last 2 days in the office, spending some time chucking stuff from the previous incumbent of my desk. I thought that my desk was smaller than my friend who sits opposite, but now I've cleared things, I find that I have an equally spacious workspace :j I also have a useful draw next to my chair, into which I can put hanging files, so clear even more from my desk :j

I gave in and phoned in sick today - quiet day at work and had another bad night. Spent the morning in bed and am now on the sofa and have only moved for food so was a good decision. OH was worried that I'd try to do things around the house whilst I was off - when he gets home he'll see he didn't need to worry - I must be ill!

Can't believe I spent most of my week off decluttering and I'm having to clean the house from top to bottom again today! Grrrr.....

LOL! I think it'll be wise to only take one or two bags of books tomorrow - but several bags of CDs and knick-knacks. I really want to knock a hole in the pile of 13 carrier bags in the hallway.

    Anyway, decluttering round-up for today:

3 carrier bags-full to the textiles bank.

Charity bag: 3 mugs, 25 CDs, 2 books, Beanie Baby

Recycling: 1 phone book, 9 magazines, 12 catalogues, various bits of paper

Bin: 5 packets of (very hard) cheese containing only bite-sized pieces, out of date tubes of Savlon and Blisteze and tub of Tiger balm, a load of old razor blades (handily left in a pile on the bathroom shelf waiting for a victim), nail buffer shaped like a dress (where did that come from? I didn't buy it) empty shampoo bottle (used up in shower this morning).

Will edit this post later if I achieve/remember anything else.

Hello all and ooooh to the poorly people. I was off sick for 3 days this week poorly too. Managed to do some cleaning but no de-cluttering. Although I have to say, I think I have broken the back when it comes to volumes of stuff (my bf may not agree :rotfl:). It's now just the randomness that I am strugglng with - like I have loads of pictures that I plan to put up 'one day' but haven't quite got round to - clogging up my spare room....Oh no, I feel a weekend challenge coming on.....Oh dear, it means going to the dreaded cupboard under the stairs (my last failed challenge) to find the picture hanging stuff. I can do it, I can do it......either hang it or get rid of it - that will be my mantra....

I also need to sort out the dreaded pile under the lounge table shelf - I'll add that to my challenge for this weekend. Gulp....

My sink is blocked too, so this will mean an enforced sorting out of that cleaning cupboard too so I can take the U bend apart (ugh).
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!
  • Today I took out all the paper to be recycled plus lots of paper wrappings.

That's it for today, had lots on otherwise.I've now decluttered all the flat.I wouldn't say it's clutter-free,but It's definitely less cluttered.I think I need to have a final 'sweep' and see what else that I can cull. Then I have to tackle the cellar:eek::eek::eek:!

I'm working this weekend anyway, but for all of you who are off,and planning to declutter-hope it goes smoothly.

Kaz2904 did you find your charm?I hope it turns up...

McCulloch29 well done on your new acquisition, you must be chuffed!
