So you're telling me that I have to make sure my JCB, or for that matter any vehicle I own on my private land has to insured because the fact I don't have a gate at the entrance? Sorry you're talking rubbish.
Private property is private property.
How am I talking rubbish??
I'm quoting you the law that incidentally, I didn't invent or make up.
Would be interested to hear how well your two arguments would stand up when your uninsured JCB flattens a house or kills a visitor.

I notice you missed the last bit.
You can be as anal as you like about this with your Surrey police links. We both know the law is:
1: An a$$
2: Open to interpretation, or else we wouldn't need those thieves in suits known as solicitors.
I know where I stand. Private property is private property.
There is a boundary and that boundary IS when the council stops adopting a road. If you were to park a car on your private drive would it need to be insured?Near a tree by a river, there's a hole in the ground.

"It is important to note that references to ‘road’ therefore generally include footpaths, bridleways and cycle tracks, and many roadways and driveways on private land (including many car parks)

I'm sure my neighbour would disagree. She is now retired, but spent many years serving on the bench. According to her, any vehicle parked on publicly accessable land (including residents parking areas, but excluding private driveways) must be insured, MOT'ed and either Taxed (or if on private land) SORN'ed.
Also, are visitors allowed to park in the car park?, if so, then the public DO have access.
Why does darich thank you for this?
He spent all afternoon telling me I need insurance for a shared private drive.0 -

I did not see where the op gave the make and model of the car and for a lot of non colour coded things a bumper can be picked up at a scrap yard ( even colour coded now seem easier enough to get hold of) It is after all only a bumper.
If I had broken my neighbours bumper I might well ask to pay it myself as it would save hassle and no claims bonus and excess etc so I am not sure it is such a massive deal someone doing the same.
After all they were putting a note on the car when it was found, rather then a bang at a superstore or some such place where no one is around to explain the damage.
If the op wants to use parts from a breaker thats fine, but if it is not an old banger or a common model then the price may be higher.
Just a scratch these these days can cost £££ and the neighbour may expect to pay £20 and start getting funny if it is £200 repair job,0 -
