Some people should either reposition their head before entering stores or only shop on-line. I think you are one of these people.

If you want personal, specialist service-go to a PC specialist (Oh yeah right you don't want to PAY for personal service-you want the cheapest-I forgot) just like if you want a car you go to a main dealer and if you want people to grovel over you you go to a bridal shop-and the prices reflect this.

In the post Christmas sales it is unreasonable to expect stores to give the same level of attention you can get on a wet March Monday morning. You've obviously never worked in a busy retail or customer service role and have unrealistic expectations as well as an inflated opinion of self worth.

I work in IT support -I also do some retail auditing -If I wanted to research options I wouldn't go in the sales to a chain IT store anymore than I'd demand a sales assistant in ASDA on a busy Saturday found out for me which farm their free range eggs came from. If that detail was vital to me I'd pay more and go to a farm shop. BTW 1 kg is a bag of sugar and if the two laptops weretwo different weights-the one with the bigger number with kg after it-will be the heavier one !

Bought a TV in Currys on Tuesday. Did have to wait quite a while to get a staff member due to how busy it was. Interestingly, the guy did tell us that the staff don't get individual commissions. They all share the store's commission. I actually prefer the slightly hands-off approach they have to somewhere like SCS Sofas, where we also went, and met a truly stereotypical pushy salesman. Clearly on his own commission as he gave us a business card and said if we wanted to order later in the day we should phone him rather than go online.

Oh well so I went in on the wrong day, asked questions, should have been non-MSE and gone to a specialist store (given I live in Northern Ireland we have next to no choice but no matter), should have known that 2.55kg means 2.5 bags of sugar (I'm Irish, not thick !!!!!!) and heaven forbid I wanted to choose between 2 laptops much like asking which chicken laid the egg and where.

If people want to come on and troll about someone receiving bad experience then whatever floats your boat. What keeps me going is realising that the majority of comments on here are from exactly the type of people I dealt with at PC World so feel free to get a job there that way you can get paid to have your jollies in being ignorant to customers. I've had PMs from people who have read this thread and been so kind as to suggest other shops and I appreciate them being so kind as to help.

No-one here was at the store when I was in so yes you have to take my word for it that I was far from agressive, ignorant or impolite. I do feel that in going into a shop I should get some level of customer service if I am to give them money for their product. What I didn't realise is that I shouldn't go into the likes of PC World with anything other than a blank cheque and no reason to speak to staff. I apologise if I thought that staff are paid to help customers and try to secure sales

Wedding dresses and used cars have hundreds of pounds of profit in them... the laptop you were looking at probably has a profit margin in single figures. You can't compare the two.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
  • Couldn't your husband have got one cheaper through his reseller?
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Unfortunately we didn't have that option.

Problem sorted today. Went into Tesco, saw a laptop but had a choice between 3 colours. Surprisingly Tesco allowed me to choose which one I wanted and were very helpful in serving us while there was a massive queue.

@redcard - have you found me a cheaper option than PC World not that I was asking but you were offering?

Nope. Once you admitted you lied I didn't bother looking.

But I'm sure you can find a number of sub-£400 laptops is you do a search. They're all pretty much identical anyway. (ie a bit rubbish)

  • I went to Currys today in Bromley because we had seen a Sony TV on the Grabbit Now Forum. Basically Richer Sounds were selling at £249.99, Currys were selling at £449.99 but on their website it says they offer a price match and 10% off. I printed off the Richer Sounds Tv and the Currys one (they had the same code apart from Currys had stuck a U on the end of their code). When I explained to the saleswoman what I wanted to do, she went to check with the manager. She came back and said he was unable to do it as they were not the same TV. Because Currys had a "U" on the end of their code he said they were different tvs. They WERE the same tv, exactly the same spec, we had even checked the Sony website and they do not sell a tv with a code with "U" on the end of it!! Currys are very sneaky and cheeky!!
