Caz- Maplins on the Boucher Road, and MPlex on the Dargen road are both very good.0

Of course if you were starring in their TV ad, you would have got all the service you wanted and more.
Having worked for the DSG group, what bugged me more about those ads is the fact that they never mentioned any of the extras we were supposed to push. If PC Performance is so good, then why isn't it featured in the ad? Not to mention the other bits and bats we were supposed to sell - mobile broadband contract, office, etc.0 -
Congratulations on your near miss, you should be very relieved. Now off you pop to a shop where people know what they are talking about.0

We were very fortunate when we went into our local PC World to look for a new desktop PC recently. We had a great sales person who actually discourgaged us from buying a more expensive PC when he learnt what we needed it for. He saved us a couple of hundred of pounds & the PC he recommended is just wonderful. Think it depends on the luck of the draw but that applies anywhere.0

So explain why the model I was looking at was described as having an "LED backlight" and it was brighter than the other model I was wanting to compare it against? It was nothing to do with screen brightness or contrast but the type of coating which made the screens differ both in brightness and colour warmth.
Both screens had a backlight (and probably both LED).
The point was more than you felt the need to belittle someone knowledge, despite not having any of your own...In short, I went in yesterday which was a darn sight less busy than the day before (approx 20 people in the store at the time and staff sitting on tills and walking around twiddling their thumbs).
...your about to say "not hours" but typically the sort of customer who wants to be able to feel the weight with a battery will end up with 10 further questions, and then suddenly wants to compare the two laptops they were looking at with a further five, and then after 3 hours they decide to have a think about it... i've literally seen it dozens of times. So jakg, what should I have done differently? I knew down to 2 models of laptop what I wanted. I didn't need a demo on how to use them nor did I require the staff to use any of their vast amounts of expertise in order to sell me one. Maybe I should have gone in waving a wad of notes or perhaps a letter written in blood promising to buy something from them?
I can also understand that if even a hint of your attitude came out when talking to the staff, why none would want to help you any more than they had to.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Oh I just wanted to say hi to caz... Hi honey!!!! And believe me, caz isn't the type to go in all guns blazing. Altho I imagine her to be all guns blazing by the time she came out.
Have had similar experiences in PCW caz, asking for a specific size of case fan and they tried to sell me everything from a heatsink to a desk fan  yes and actual fan for cooling the room :rotfl:
I know they can't all be bad, but some of them really are atrocious. I hear the store in Crawley is rather good and have at least one good tech there4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

I worked in IT for 10+ years (albeit mainly as a programmer) so I know roughly what I'm talking about which is why I don't feel the need to ask the difference between Intel and AMD and do I really need an i3 when a Celeron will do the job. What I did want to know was what difference there was in the screens but when I get told that the screens are identical yet they obviously weren't then I feel I can quite rightly come on here and belittle the salesperson in question....your about to say "not hours" but typically the sort of customer who wants to be able to feel the weight with a battery will end up with 10 further questions, and then suddenly wants to compare the two laptops they were looking at with a further five, and then after 3 hours they decide to have a think about it... i've literally seen it dozens of times.
So how do you differentiate between the person who ties up a salesman for hours and the kind of person who wants 2 simple questions answered and they'll then be off to the till very happy? Was it because I was female that the salesman thought I'd ask a million questions, was it because I asked to feel the weight of the laptop or was it because I didn't ask any technical questions so he thought they were to follow?I can also understand that if even a hint of your attitude came out when talking to the staff, why none would want to help you any more than they had to.
As for attitude, I can honestly say that while I was in the shop, the only emotion I had was shock at the lack of help from the staff. Ok so I did say that for the sake of 10 minutes (in their own words) to move a laptop they could be losing a sale but at that point I was starting to get annoyed at the amount of tosh the guy was speaking about security tags, re-registering the Myraid tags, finding batteries etc etc. Yes, they probably didn't know that once I had 2 simple questions answered that I would 100% buy the laptop but then again if they treat every customer as a doubtful sale then they won't be selling much.0 -

You get about eh? Yeah I heard the Crawley store had one of the few techie staff in existence but it's a bit far to travel!
You know me Maz, I don't go into PC World to ask for advice, I go in because I want to buy what was a pretty decent laptop at a decent price.0 -

You went in with an attitude. You were "being oh-so-generous by giving them a second chance" . It is hardly any wonder they reacted like that. I am sure they are crying over their loss !0
