  • Hi JB, I'm in a head spin now I've worked out the figures ! Thw interview is for a part time job. She already has part time work but this is in a very popular clothes shop which gives their staff a 50% discount so she really really really wnats it lol. Hopefully she will go to college if she gets a place. I was hoping to not take money off of her whilst she was studying but I'll have to wait and see how things go. Bloody annoying to realise the difference it will make to me financially when she leaves school as I had just made all my plans. Never mind. Life wouldn't be so exciting if we weren't thrown a few curve balls every now and again x

  • Back to work tomorrow :(. Doesn't feel as if I've been off for 10 days . I have done nothing in my house until today .

I have managed to catch up with friends which was nice and spent a fair bit of time in my mum's which was also nice but normally if I take time off I decorate or something which I haven't done this time.

I have joined the sparkle challenge and am determined to take better care of myself and my home. I pay a lot of money for this house so I really should take pride in it and it goes without saying that I should also take pride in myself. So I am starting a couple of pots to save up coins to reward myself. I will have one for the house and one for me.

Today so far I have done 1 load of washing and am now gutting my lounge, I've even cleaned the windows and radiators :rotfl:. It actually looks lovely when it is all tidy :D.

I am much more upbeat than yesterday. It was a real shock dealing with the realisation of my financial position once DD leaves school but hey there's b*gger all I can do about it. Once all the changes are in place I might get a part time evening or weekend job. I'll see. I will have enough to pay all my bills so at least that is something and I will just work as hard as I can meantime to pay off as much as I can before the money changes. So all in all it may mean a slight delay in my dfd but hey ho I will get there eventually :D.

Maybe I should out 10p in my sparkle fund for picking myself up and dusting myself off :rotfl:. In fact I will :D

NSD so far but then I am still in my pj's :rotfl:

  • Ow on the money hit MIT. Would you still get benefits if she stays in full time education at college?

Either way you will manage and be proud of your kids x

    May 2013 new beginnings:j
  • Big ow KP but as you say I'll cope and I am proud. She's a great kid. She will be 18 in 2 weeks and all benefits I get for her and maintenance will stop at beginning of September :(. She is going into advanced education so she is expected to keep herself with student loans etc. I dont really want her to use the loans. She can get them and pop them into an ISA then repay them when she is finished. That's the plan anyway.

Spent a few pounds now as DD away to ASDA and to drop DS off at his friends for a sleepover so she's picking a few things up for me.

I will manage when the money ets cut. When I came on here at first I was only just managing to cover my outgoings with my wages. I haven't really had much in the way of wage rises since then but I now have about £400 left from my wage each month after everything has gone out. I'll still get some benefits and maintenance for DS so I should be fine ( fingers crossed) . I'll just need to use all the moneysaving skills I have learned over the years. At least I will still have a job. Some poor souls on here get their income taken from them altogether .

I'm going to concentrate on my 2 credit cards that are on 0% just now so that they will not go onto their higher rates as that would be trouble for me then. I have until September to pay off about 3k :rotfl:

Gosh M-i-T, what a headache. I sympathise! I too am worrying about the changes when my two DDs turn 18 in July. I have my head in the sand and don't really know how it will affect me, so if you find out anything important let me know! It looks as if one will be going to university and one doing part-time course at a FE college.

  • Sea child benefit normally stops on the first Monday in September and thats the benefit that allows for everything else. For your DD going to uni then it'll definitely stop as for your other DD it depends on what type of course she is doing. If it is non advanced i.e. an NC or VQ then you should get Child benefit for longer but if an HNC/D etc then she will be the same and it will stop In Sept. Sh*t or what. They still eat

So we carry on getting child benefit up til September, even after they have turned 18?

  • Just checked the direct gov site and so long as your girls do not officially leave school until after 31st May then child benefit will continue until 31st August. Our kids leave in June at some point so that will be the case for me. Here's the link http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/ChildBenefitandChildTrustFund/Childbenefits/KeepingyourChildBenefituptodate/ChildBenefitafter16/DG_073812. If they start working for more than 24 hours per week then it would stop immediately. I'll just tell DD she'll need to keep her hours under that until August anyway.

I could probabaly cope with the loss of income as I expected it but the pension increase and mortgage increase were unexpected. Boo
