I am looking for a Visa card (have Amex and Mcard already) which has good perks. I have no balance to transfer and always pay the balance off in full. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance
  • Hi All,
I have an Amex Platinum cash back card, im in my first year and I have spent around 9k on it so far, first year will be up in June 2011.

Rates: 0.5% for aggregate amounts up to £3,500; and 1% for aggregate amounts from £3,501 to £7,500; and 1.25% for aggregate amounts in excess of £7,501.

I also have a Halifax Clarity card, that gives £5 back if you spend £300 per month on it.

Question is: Is it worth spending my first £300 per month on Halifax Clarity card to get the £5 and then the rest on the Amex to get that cashback, or shall I just stick to spending all on the Amex??

I ALWAYS pay off the full balance every month by DD (I have learnt from previous mistakes!:D )
My total spend on cards is normally around £13 to £14k per year.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this, any advice is always welcome.....

  • Which cancels out any advantage from the better earning rate.
  • Thanks for the great post.
  • I do a lot of miles each year and obviously buy a lot of diesel. I am nearby all major supermarkets and usually use ASDA or Sainsbury's, though I can use the others. I was wondering if anyone knows which store would be the best to get a credit card with that I only use for fuel. I would be spending about £400 a month on it and hopefully get some freebies!

    Thanks on advance

    Hi
I actually wanted to add my question to this Thread

    i Moneysavingexperts community
I m still relative new to balance transfer business. I ve got a wake up call when my current credit card provider ,Llyods TSb ,sent me a letter stating that , they were going to increase my interest.

So I've applied for the Halifax plus card and at the time of filling my application online, I had added the transfer amount fom Llyods tsb.
Halifax is doing a 0%p a for 15monts on BT from account opening.
My application was succesful. I ve receivd a letter today from Halifax .
There is no mention of my llyods tsb card . Only in the pre contract credit information is it stated
our standard rates 21.95%(pa variable) for balance transfer, relates interst and charges
21.95% p a variable for purchases and all other amonts
    However jut below its states
0%p a for 15monts on bt from account opening.

So I m a bit confused . I'm mainly applied for this card so I can repay my debt without interest and get my current Llyods tsb paid off.
Did any of you also apply for this promotional offer. I m not sure if this letter is confimirng the promotional BT from me or not.

    Thank for your help

  • Currently have a Barclay Goldfish credit card, which I've had for years, but think the points reward is now pretty poor. My current C/Card spend is c. £600+ per month, which gets paid off each month via variable Direct Debit.

What's the best card at the moment for rewards based on how much you spend?

I use the card when I'm abroad on holiday as well.
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!
  • In order to try and attract more custom credit card issuers have started to offer a range of incentives to attract customers and gain, with a range of freebies on offer to those that sign up to certain credit card deals.
Amongst the freebies that are offered by credit card companies that are trying to attract custom are retail vouchers, air miles, online shopping vouchers, and more.
