Hi All
I applied for and recieved the Airmiles Duo Card, I just applied for this card to get the free flight. I only have £450 left to pay on this (through balance transfer) an plan to clear the balance within 3months.
I no a snagging point is that I have to book 1 nights hotel through Airmiles. I plan to use the points to go to Barcelona - if I book a night through Airmiles does it have to be to stay in a hotel in Barcelona? My plan was just trawl the (airlmiles) hotels website and book the cheapest hotel room in the world without actually intending to stay thier - jus so I could get a room at the cheapest rate. MoneySavvy that I am, I'm waiting till next year for the 10E rooms at the Barcelona Travelodge to become available. Does anyone know if this can work?
Thanks in advance0 -
It has to be either in Spain or in England, according to the Terms and Conditions:At the time of booking travel a minimum of one night's accommodation must be booked through Airmiles in the country of origin, or destination, within the specified dates of travel.0

Blimey, I didn't even check the fee, as I didn't know anyone still charged them. OK, I agree the classic is usually going to be the best.
I guess if you were intending to use the card to rack up lots of airmiles from your spending, there would come a point when it was worth paying the fee. I think Martin calculated that the value of the airmiles on the classic card is £1.19 per £100 spend. That's on the basis of 1.5 miles per £1 spend. So, if you get 2 miles per £, that's a value of £1.59 per £100 spend. If you spend£15000 on your card in a year, you would get an extra 7500 miles, worth an extra £60. Few of us spend more than £15,000 per year, but for those who do, it might be worth paying the £60 fee.0 -
That's right....Plastic money you enjoy now but when it becomes debts then worst...0

credit cards are being widely used and there are various advantages too. if you have your own credit card then no need to worry at all. you can move around and your money will be with you and will be safe too. so try to make a good use of your credit cards0

does the tesco credit card where you get 1 point for £4 spend seem a good deal or does it not compare to a credit card which gives 1% cash back??
im just asking as im always using it religiously but never really new about cashback cards....
thanks0 -
They used to give 1 per 1 for tesco I think. 1% is 1p back and 1 for 4 is a quarter of a penny back and then its only for tesco. Not sounding too good to me
Amex do the best cashback at upto 5%0 -
I went for the airmiles duo card last time the offer was on. It was a waste of time really. They gave me a credit limit of £500, and refused to negotiate it. I managed to get 1226 miles out of it, but spending up to £500 per month but not over is difficult, even if paying it off frequently rather than when the bill comes. Annoyingly, I spent over £2K on flights which I could have put on the card, and got the full 1500 airmiles, btu of course I could not, as I had a limit of £500.0

Just wondering what kind of risks i'll be getting myself into for getting a credit card I simply won't use. I want to get the amazon card for the £10 gift voucher and then cut it up into a million pieces and then burn it for good luck. I'm a student and have no job. Think they will approve me and will there be any strings attached and find myself paying fees for no reason?0

Ive used amazon cc, no problems. They also recently reformed cc law to make them slightly more friendly.
Generally you be fine if paying what you owe well on time, you will need to actually use it I think.
Ironically having / using a cc will improve your credit score rating0
