I started with a standard Natwest card which was upgraded to a Natwest Gold card. We have spent a lot on it over more than 15 years but my letter does say I'll have to pay £3 a month to join the new scheme.i think its too costly0

Hi All,
Sorry if this has been discussed in a previous area, just thought I'd flag up here !
I followed the headline "best rewards card to use" from the main site and thought after reading the blurb to get an Amex reward card (£30 in rewards for opening !).
It's only after I've started using the card, and made my first purchase on the thing that I've now found out it costs £23.50 to join the Amex rewards program (and it is an annual fee !!!!), and the only vouchers you can obtain off Amex are in £25 pound bundles, meaning you make £1.50 out of using this card.
Please do tell me if I'm wrong, but this in now way should be highlighted as the best buy option in the main site. I'd much rather use either the tesco card or play card which give you a larger free period to pay off the balance and also does not cost you anything when you wish to cash in your rewards.
... must admit that I am somewhat perturbed that the main site can state the Amex card is a best buy with this kind of hidden loading on the card ...0 -
Just a word of caution re the TSB/AMEX Airmiles card, yes you do get a lot of airmiles per pound BUT just try and use it in the UK. Virtually every where that I have tried I have had the same 'sorry but we do not take the TSB/AMEX due to the prohibative charges' comment and I have had to use the 'other' TSB Airmiles card with much less airmiles for my purchase. I was going to send it back but I was informed that OK to use in the USA, trouble is I cannot earn enough airmiles to get there to use it!!!!!0

You presumably haven't tried in any of the major supermarkets?
The point of the Amex Duo is that you get an Amex card and a Mastercard for the same account. You get 1 airmile per £10 spent on the Amex and 1 airmile per £50 spent on the Mastercard - so obviously you always offer the Amex card and if you find they don't take it (IME independent retails don't take Amex because of the Merchant Fees and the way Amex hold onto money before paying them) you just give them the Mastercard instead.
I've had one since it was launched, sitting with about 4000 miles at the moment. The miles don't rack up as quickly as you'd like, but it's something for nothing."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
Hi there CannyJock,
Yes I have tried it in the few of the Major supermarkets near us and had the same answer and 'by the other card' I meant to say the MasterCard part of the Duo. It was for larger purchases that I thought I would rack up the points but the retailers would not accept the AMEX card. It is a catch 22 situation of find the item cheaper but no AMEX card or pay more for the item to get the Airmiles.:(0 -
Hey all,
Just had a quick question on Air miles.
if i sign up to this The Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo Credit Card Account can i use the voucher for flight for myself and a friend or do the miles on apply to me?
Cheers in advance,
Si.0
