They have a dedicated team that work on individual players and have, most importantly, got great customer services who don't mind being hassled. Panasonic, Sony and Sharp players for example are very tricky to circumvent, so I let these guys deal with mine - a Sony DVP-NS335. They've got it databased if you're interested.
It 'is' a fee paying membership group, but they have a free page of DVD codes you might want to look at. For the work they do, it's more of a donation. http://www.dvdexploder.com/multihacks They've got loads of codes in their database, so it might be an idea to check them out before buying a new DVD player for Christmas. There's no need to spend much on a decent player nowadays and you don't to pay an enormous premium just to watch imported movies!

Durabrand DVD Player - Model No DVD-2005. DVD +R/RW Playback, DVD -R/RW Playback, MP3 Playback, View Digital Photos, CD&CD-RW/RW Playback, AV Socket, Scart Socket.
I think this is multiregion or capable of it but I can't remember
do you have a link0 -
I bought a HDMI output Tevion DVD player from Aldi a couple of months ago for £40. It even came with both HDMI and a scart cable. It is a great machine which plays back Divx films (6 films on one DVD anyone?) and has a built in multiformat card reader for your digital photos.
Its the cheapest player of its kind i am aware of.0 -
thanks, mr kennedy
just rang my local wh smith (stockport) and they had one of the cyberhome players left, so the nice man there has tucked it away for me, so i can collect it tonight on the way home from work.
the old dvd player packed up and the missus was looking for something that supported divx and these machines are typically £30+
big thumbs up!0 -
Am I right in thinking that if I buy a DVD player and plug it into my existing Hi-Fi system then I can play MP3 discs through the Hi-Fi?
Surely this makes sense rather than buying a dedicated CD player separate which is much more expensive. Granted I won't be able to see the screen to select tracks but thats no great hardship.
Any opinions?0 -
Just my 2 cents: You do get what you pay for with these super cheap machines....no display, poor mechanics, rubbish menu's, average picture. NOT that i'm saying they don't have their uses...spare room, young children etc, but for well under £100 you can get a really top quality machine, and for a little more, a decent DVD recorder.
I got one of the Amazon machines BTW, and it broke after a week...AND I couldn't return it for some reason! Pah.
My 2 year old Toshiba is still blasting away very nicely, and still competes with picture quality of new machines. Lovely.0 -
If anyone knows of an inexpensive multi-region DVD player that also plays video cassette tapes I'd be extremely grateful!0

so we are not really much forward then!
seems I need avoud any dvd under 20 quid, so can someone recommend a dvd player at about 30 quid that wont freeze or breakdown!?0 -

In a word, yes you can - I do.
but elsewhere on this thread we do seem to be going off topic with talk of £50+ players, DiVx players and HD compatible players - it's supposed to be about finding sub £20 multi region players.
rant over.
