Losing weight - Gym V Wii

Morning Campers!
I did another EA Sports Active work out last night even though it told me it was a rest day and then did super advanced boxing and super hula hoop for another 15 minutes.
Did my weigh in today and feeling a little disheartened.
In the past week I have exercised 6/7 days and really changed my eating habits and I can honestly, hand on heart, say I have tried really hard and have only lost 1lb. I've been tracking my calories on my fitness pal and am eating a max of about 1300 calories a day and am burning about 200 so not sure what is going wrong.
Don't be - what Wootball says about eating enough and littelkel about muscle weighing more than fat is all correct. Your body needs a certain amount of fuel or it automatically starts to conserve it's reserves (i.e. fat!), which hinders attempts to lose weight after a certain point. It will also take time for your body to adjust to the new regime and get into full flab busting mode!
Incidentally, a friend once told me that when she was on a diet and depressed because she'd only lost a pound or two, she used to go into the supermarket and pile up packs of lard equivalent to what she had lost to remind herself of how much progress she had made. So, following that principle - THIS is what the amount of weight you have lost looks like in lard:

Just did a body test on the Wii and my Wii fit age is finally my actual age! go me :j
My target is to burn 300 calories on the wii but I find I never reach this before I get tired so Im obviously still a bit unfit.
Been doing the running and cycling ones a fair bit and its fair to say my legs are feeling it now - I have to say I quite enjoy the cycling one, Ive unlocked them all now and that last one is a killer, but at least it burns the calories....
Ive now got to walk to town in the pouring rain (now on flood warning, great!) but I suppose its exercise at least.....
OH wants to go out tomorrow for the Spoons curry night so better make sure I burn off a few extra to make up for it...
Its really great reading everyone else's goals and things on here - certainly motivates me a bit more to get off my bum.
I don't exactly have a goal as such but if I could get under 10 stone that will put me roughly into the middle of the 'ideal' weight which I think is a good target for a general healthier meMFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

Hello fellow Wii-ers!
I'm so proud of myself, I have spent at least 45 minutes on the Wii every night for the last 6 nights running.:j:j
I'm alternating between Wii Fit plus, The Biggest Loser and Wii sports. I'm hoping this will keep it interesting for me. I plan to do an event I have never done on the Wii Fit tonight, you can certainly tell which ones are favourites in our household with 30+plays on them, I may attempt the snowboarding one later.
I watched the US Biggest Loser on Living last night, is it just me or is the UK version so dull in comparison?!!
I love the gutsyness of the Americans, and tbh thought the UK bunch were a bit dull. Anyway still looking forward to next week.
Keep up the good work people, 2011 is the year to get healthy.Currently takling Barclaycard - £67/£350Debt free date October 2014:jDoing it for my girlies!!:j38lbs lost in 2011SW for May 8lb/7lb0 -

Hi
No it's the EA sports additional workouts, its much better than the original because it also has ab exercises. I want the Sports Active 2 but for the Playstation, I like the idea of not having the controllers and having the heart monitor. My birthday next month so hopefully hubby will buy that for me:)0 -
I know this is a little random or out of the blue, but please don't fall in to the trap of believing that muscle weighs more than fat - it doesn't. Muscle is simply more dense, meaning that the equivalent weight of muscle takes up less room than the same weight of fat.
It's the equivalent of saying that lead weighs more than feather - it doesn't at all, a ton of feathers is still the same weight as a ton of lead. The feathers just take up much, much more room.Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

:j I got my Wii Fit! :j
Spent a profitable hour last night getting the balance board set up, then went through all the 'new user' stuff and did a body test. The good news is I'm still an 'Ideal' weight/BMI, the annoying news (which I already suspected!) is that I'm about half a stone or so over what I would consider to be my 'normal' weight. So I've set myself a goal to lose a couple of pounds over the next two weeks, and we'll see how that goes.
Did a bit of jogging, yoga and some of the strength excercises as well, but gave EA Sports a miss as I had to go out and I'm still a bit sore from the previous two goes - I didn't know the arches of your feet could ache like this! :rotfl:
Think I might try alternating Wii Fit and EA, as the Wii Fit is definitely much gentler, although the yoga and strength exercises are far more demanding than they appear.Never underestimate the power of the techno-geek...0 -
I use to go the gym and swimming 4/5 times a week but just got out of the routine when i moved house 3yrs ago now. I got a Wii after playing on one at my friends and found it good fun although i had intended to re-join the gym. Unfortunately the Wii went off, the set-top box broke and the Wii needed re-tuning and i couldn't do it and it became one of those things that you think 'i must fix that'. Finally before Christmas i got it working, switched it on, and the little woman popped up and said the last time you exercised was 736 days ago, where have you been.
So i'm starting again, but i'm probably only about 5 pounds over weight thanks to the healthy eating tips i find here.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Now going out to purchase a sports bra...
Definitely a good idea - I went and got a new one yesterday, so much more comfortable to wear.....
Managed to rack up almost two hours last night on the Wii Fit - burning off just over 370 calories toogot a bit carried away with the Cycling on Expert - could see the last two flags but not figure out how to get them, after going round in circles for ages I decided to admit defeat and bank the points - 44 mins and 120 calories just from that - dread to think what the equivalent km I did, it said at the half way point of flags I'd done over 7km.....
Also did the 2 player jogging on the island course (the super long one) with the OH he went shooting off, I certainly was no where near his pace but I finished it - although have to admit I then did find myself lying on the floor for 10 mins trying to recover.
Been getting into the habit of trying out some of the ones Ive never done before, so did the rhythm kung fu which was rubbish, didn't seem to recognise half my movements. The boxing one was good, I unlocked the advanced and super advanced too but they were way too complicated for me so have to stick to the easy one.
Attempted some of the muscle workouts, which I didnt do too bad on although it is somewhat a struggle to fit in my room, ie laying down. Distance from tv to sofa is slightly smaller than me so its not the easiest thing to do - will have to stick to the standing up ones instead....MFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

We bought a Wii before Christmas, but to be honest I've only really played games on it over the festive season. I really need to lose weight (haven't dared go near scales in months but at size 22 and only 5'3" I know I have tons to lose).
Will break out the balance board and find out the awful truth and then set myself a sensible target.
Thanks so much for encouraging me to start - if I hadn't read this thread I'd probably not have done anything about it.0
