I want a dog!

  • Friend has a labradoodle rescue (informal one) and has just found she was already pregnant by the other one at the old home when she got her. Dam is cream F1, sire F1b black. I know she would never have bred from her, she only has 'second hand' dogs. So she is choosing who of her friends she trusts to take one when they are born and donating the best one to a charity to work as an assistance dog.

    I want one sooooooo much!

Sorry - been away for a few days so haven't been checking up on the thread. Dog appears fine, has to go back for a checkup tomorrow.

Only issue is that we had to do a crisis run up to my parents yesterday (basically got told a very dear family friend is in intensive care and dying and wanted to get there to see him one last time), took the dog who generally behaved brilliantly - but it's completely unsettled him in terms of him being back to charging after the cat and toiletting and stuff... so now we've got all that to deal with again, going right back to square 1, and it's probably all going to be unsettled AGAIN when the inevitable phonecall and funeral visit comes round (it's not definite he's going to die - but when the intensive care staff are openly telling you to prepare for the worst and that the normal visiting hours don't apply - get anyone who wants to come see him up and we'll fit them in whenever pretty much... it's pretty much not looking good).

Thankfully my dog-wary step-father's now concluded "that's a very strange dog, he doesn't bark or jump up at people - I think he can come visit again and I'm starting to like him!"

Back to the cat training and dog being left on a lead tomorrow - just what I need when I'm not thinking at all clearly myself. At least, considering how rushed it all was (phonecall at 4... out of the door and on the motorway by 5 with minimal packing) he travelled the 4 hour journey brilliantly.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • sorry to hear about your family friends illness dzb.

I'm sure he will get used to all the to-in and fro-ing of life as he settles into his new home, dont forget he had his op too and life has been upside down for him recently.

Mine is settling in lovely, she went to be neutered on Friday and had already been done so felt bad, but the wound is healing up nicely and she is walking round the park and doesnt seem too bothered about it. I've been giving her painkillers anyway and she is eating ok.

I really love her so much you know, I'm so glad I found her and she has fitted in so well. I'm even tempted to get another dog nearer the summer when she has settled in and knows this is her home, its just the cost that prevents me though. Its my goal to save up this year and we are trying to cut out unnecessary expenses.

thanks for all the posts about milk, I gave her some and she loves it but yesterday I rang the vets and spoke to the nurse and she said it is not recommended but you can give her cheese (?)

I thought as they were mammals then they could have milk
Many (possibly most?) adult humans can't digest milk either, normal adult mammals don't produce lactase. We're the odd ones out in that we can.

Cheese is ok because a lot of the lactose is removed when they make it.
  • Goats milk is ok for dogs, in fact they sell little cartons of it in the pet aisle - top life dog milk.

They also do little packs of cheese for dogs in Pets at Home - my dogs loves it! :)
  • just resurrected my old thread to save starting a new one, does anyone have any idea what to do? Its not derious its just that when my dog does her business, she does a sloppy/formed one then about 10 mins later it is loose.. She goes once a day and never makes a mess, is this normal for her? I have stopped all the treats and dog vitamins and chews etc yesterday and just keeping her on the dry dog food (jwb)
She has been with us fir 5 weeks now and has had an anaesthetic (for neutering) and vaccinations, worming and program tabs so maybe its just her settling into life with us? She is very calm and not stressed about anything and I weighed her at the vets today and hse has put on .1kg.
    Maybe I'm worrying over nothing?
BTW I am so glad to have her, she is a dream dog, last 2 days I have let her off the lead and she comes straight back to me, she sits now and gives a paw, sleeps all night in her crate and is very loving, she loves a cuddle on the settee but doesnt pester you if you need to get on with other things.
