Lady E, you still need proper checks, but why pay £100 plus for the same glasses as you can get for £15.0

Lady_E wrote:I was quite interested in your comments , and I wonder if I am missing something here. I have contact lenses and glasses and get regular check up from my optician to confirm that everything is ok . Surely , as a" milkbottle" glasses user , if I get correctly measured by my optician I can go ahead and purchase a pair of prescription sunglasses ,from the internet, without fear of damaging my eyes? I just understood from what you are saying that it may not be a safe to do this , or am I reading this wrong?
I think LMRR was suggesting that more complicated (not powerful) prescriptions are best dispensed and checked over the counter. If you have a single vision prescription there's no reason you shouldn't order over the internet.
In my experience over the counter is not a guarantee of a quality product. I went to Optilabs nr. Croydon to have some sunglass insert lenses made. They measured me up and duly produced the lenses. They were way out. So I went back and a different optician checked the original lens and said they'd make another pair. A few days later they were received and no better than the first.
In desperation I sent them off to an ophthalmologist friend and he confirmed they were not in line with the British Standard in some aspects of their manufacture (the +/- 5 referred to above). I would have sought a refund but other events took precedence and it was some time later before I remembered the problem and too late to do much about it.
Over the counter isn't always assured.0 -
Just rimless at https://www.justrimless.com have an offer of 25% off or a free £10 voucher for next order if you spend over £20.
Unisex styles start at £9.99 (=£7.49 less 25%).
Despite the name of the company they also do rimmed specs0 -

Hi Brinky, have you had some specs from us?
At the moment we are offering 25% AND (not or) £10 off future orders.
If you don't see anything you fancy keep checking back as we are about to add new products including stainless steel and titanium.

Yes Rick I have had a spare pair from your company. Excellent value.0

I have now used https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk twice and their £15 glasses are excellent value compared to the high street - my family do not believe they can be so cheap.0

I am pretty shortsighted (-5), and also need varifocals. Has anyone successfully ordered light, thin varifocal glasses online? Which site would you recommend? Thanks.0

There is an interesting exchange of letters between the legal representratives of Specsavers and GlassesDirect on their site.

Specsavers are possibly taking Glasses Direct to court over a marketing campaign they did in Newcastle.
Have a read of this:
