Now I'm getting frustrated because there are lots of similar symbols and it's very difficult to tell some of them apart. I've already had to unpick several sections. One part has been unpicked three times....(I must have had a brain-fart!).

Who else was it that's done this kit? Did you find it hard to tell some of the symbols apart?

Surely they don't need to use identical (but different sized) symbols...surely there are more than enough to have 55 different ones?! I've been cross-stitching for 20 years and I don't recall getting this frustrated with a kit before.

    And breathe.....:rotfl:[/QUOTE]

    Hi Mags_cat.
I feel your frustration. I'm on the last page of Tenby Harbour. The symbols for some colours are practically the same aren't they. One of my houses is totally the wrong colour because of this, but I've left it as it looks ok. I spent many a time looking at the image on the web site trying to figure out which symbol was which!

Okay, ladies, bit of a mini poll for you:

You have a full kit {chart, thread, aida, needle} that you don't want, for whatever reason, what do you do with it? eBay is not an option because when you put it on there it did not sell, even if yours was the lowest price :o

    A) Try to swap it as a full kit?

    B) Keep the thread and aida and make a copy of the chart just in case you change your mind and try to swap the chart or just keep the chart?

    C) Other?

I only ask because I have this kit, and it's just not something I would stitch, but it didn't sell on eBay. And to be honest, I don't think anyone would wanna swap for it either lol And as my DMC thread stash is pretty non-existant, I think the bst option for me would be B???

Have to admit i'd see if a nice local needle craft shop would swap it for you. If its totally unopened I would pop in and say you'd had it for your birthday, assume the gift giver brought it from them as its the most local shop and can you swap it for something you want to stitch as you hate the idea of doing something you hate?

...Sounds really bad now i've written it but I figure they're not losing out cos they'll probably sell the kit to someone who wants it.

Am I a terrible preson for even considering that!?!

You could try and I know this is time consuming too but colour in with some colouring in pens/pencils with some of the symbols - no need to do all 55 colours - don't colour in too dark as you won't see the symbol - I know use some highlighters - I am lucky I got a set of 8 different colours at work I sneaked home once to do this job with - a little does help.

EJS that is a good idea - as they say one mans trash is another mans gold.

Hope you did treat yourself to your kits Chicky - you deserve it - you have the patience of a saint.

Not been able to get back to the shed and see what magazines I can save as I was distracted by a box that had old photos in it (a lot of my early life with late hubby) and I got stuck looking and crying and trying see what I could safe of them. Don't know how shed got leak - as its always been very water tight then hubby reminded me that the lad up stairs has his trampolines (just lies there now going to rust - waste of money) and he was jumping from it to shed while I was at work so might of damaged in some way.

    Kind wishes to all

    sweetcarer ;)

PS spiral did you go back and get all that stash?

SNAP - Go quickly, run now :rotfl:

i read over some of this thread this morning, whilst umming and arring about what to do...and do you know what... i did just as suggested! (glad i didnt go at 10:40pm when you actually posted though!!)
    wowww fab find!!
... I'd go in and say ..... how much for the lot :T
i did try that, but the manager wasnt there and the lady obviously didnt like the idea of me taking them all. and to be fair, i could not have carried them all anyway! (though i did go prepared, i took a rucksack... a bit of me wanted to get the wheely suitcase from the attic, which i had actually bought from there...but decided against overkill in case it jinxed it and they'd already sold)

but luckily the 4 piles of mags were still there... so i sat on the floor and went through them for an hour! :o:) it was quite lovely actually! i disguarded any so old the charts are in black and white as they confuse me (i do have a couple like that to do but they're special). and disguarded any that didnt have at least one that jumped out at me wanting to be stitchd someday maybe.

... erm... i bought 44!!:eek: i filled the rucksack (that amused the ladies a LOT) and a couple of cloth carriers, but couldn't carry any more really. at their mix of 10p and 25p it should have come to 6.85, but they only charged me 5.00  it felt a bit like daylight robbery... but i will return next week when they've put more out (she couldnt let me see those as she didnt know the price yet).

they were worried about me carrying that load so they let me out the back of the shop as it was a much shorter distance back to my car!:rotfl:

on one BW chart that was badly printed i coloured them in with colouirng pencils like the colours they should be. that helped a lot.

so sorry to hear photos were included in the damage. that's just not fair. (i wrote my reply below before i read your last post.)

Feeling really sad - don't know what to do - have put lid back on and thinking what to do next - do I bring them in doors (which I had planned to do eventually when I have spare room sorted) and let them dry out or let them dry out best they can in shed for now.

oh no! that's so aweful. i'd definately take the lid off and bring them inside. spread them out on newspaper if you can, which is on a carpet or rug floor not tiled if possible.

just let them air for a bit. though dont put them near a heat source (radiator or oven!) as they'll go really crinkly if they dry too quickly. this does risk a bit crinkly but if left damp they could go very mouldy which is a health risk and might make them unusuable.

:o (i'm sorry, i cant help myself!) and here's the overkill option: if we had a flood or serious damp issue at work...

~ we would prop books up on their spines with their pages as open as possible under a table with a plastic sheet hanging over the long sides. then run a fan on cool setting sitting at one end... essentially creating a wind tunnel.

~ Photos would be laid out seperatly (they must not touch else when they dry they'll stick and damage the surfaces, so pull apart whilst still wet if possible)

~ With magazines, i'd string up some plastic washing line or similar and dangle the mags over them (centre of mag over the line). Actually, in your situation Sweetcarer, if i had an indoor airer, i'd use that to dangle the mags over.

    Good luck hun xxx

well done on your (more) bargains 23rd and what helpful advice... you can tell you work with old artefacts (it is you isn't it?)

A little FYI for you guys - MSE on facebook has been a little (quite cheeky) busy bee and tried to get some nice website to publish discount codes. Across Town Stitching has said they really want to offer discount to facebook fans of their site (when her hubby has time to set it up). So it might be worth liking them if you have an account (of course if I find out I will pass on if I can)

Have also posted So and Sew a very nice message on their wall and will let you know if I hear from them.

If anyone knows any others let me know and I'll see if I can work some magic.

    Still nothing from Past Impressions.

Hi all :j I'm happy today because I actullay have a WHOLE WEEKEND off from work!!! I ususally work Saturdays so two days together is a bit of a novelty lol

Chicky - I almost feel it isn't worth the hassle any more for the PI stuff. How can some people be so useless. All they have to do is post a parcel it cant be that hard surely!!!!!

23rd - 44  Lol that gave me a giggle. I am just picturing a random person (due to the fact I don't know what you look like) sitting cross legged on the middle of the floor in a charity shop surrounded by CS mags and trying to stuff as many as poss into a massive rucksack. And they only cost £5 - what a bargin you should be proud :T and I think you now have friends for life : letting you out the back door indeed!

Sweetcarer - I hope you can save the pics and mags. Kids don't realise how their 'games' can damage something precious to other people.

Soulie - I too would try and sell that kit again as it is complete and it is a brilliant picture thou I myself would never be able to stiutich something that big (I get bored easily :o) I like EJS's idea too - you would easily be able to get away with that, there is no harm in asking - the worse they could do would be to say no :D

Judellie - I don't understand why they would use similar symbols at all - why would you not use unique ones?

Oh and Chicky that silent flight eagle is beautiful was it Soulie who wanted an eagle to stitich? I would definately go for that one

Hello :wave:everyone else. Best wishes for a fantastical weekend

Heres a coffee to keep us all going till then xx:coffee:(Why is the only cake smiley a burthday cake??)
