Afternoon girls - hope everyone is ok. Been a bit of a rough week with this horrible damned cold - but I think (fingers crossed) it is on the way out now. Managed to get a fair bit of stitching done though but had to put it away when the nose started to pour like a tap.

Will post a pic soon as I have now completed page 3 and ready and raring to get started on page 4. :j

:T Well done ejs on completing Titanic :T

hi everyone, i've just had the charity shop find of the century :j :j (well i think so, my OH probably wont agree!)

there's a little local charity shop i sometimes pop in if i've time in the big town (local big town, not the one where i work). I was killing time waiting for my bike to be fixed, and trying not to go in 'real' shops and spend money. I almost didnt see the HUGE PILE of cross stitch magazines as i was chatting to a friend, but when i did my heart literally started to race! There must have been 200 magazines there... all priced from 10p to 25p (depending on which mag and age)... but I only had 2.80 on me! I asked if I could sit down to have a rummage, and the ladies were mildly amused at me, but happy that a pile would be leaving their shop.

5 Cross Stitcher from 2007 - 2010 (including the edition just before i bought my first ever one, which pleases me) - 25p each
1 Cross Stitch Card Shop 10p (with fairies and dragons in!)
1 WOCS 25p (2004 and pricy compared to the others that age!! lol!! but a lovely greek harbour chart)
2 Cross Stitch Crazy 10p each (2006/7, lady bugs and Somebunnys, clover flower fairy and american seasons sampler)
8 Cross Stitch Quick 10p each (I've never even heard of this mag, and recongnise some charts from repeated elsewhere, but there are some lovely things in them)
and 2 mini cover kits of micky mouse 10p each

so, considering this huge increase to my stash (must not ever buy a xstitch book again, and must probably cancel my CrossStitcher sub now too!).... i've some questions for you ladies further into your obession than me...

    1. how on earth do you keep track of the charts that you want to stitch 'someday' but not next? the 'when i have time' or 'when we redecorate' or 'when xxx gets engaged that'd be perfect' charts? till now i've stuck post-its in but that system isnt going to work any more i feel!

    2. where do you store them all? close at hand? or in the attic?

    3. should i do as another lady is considering, and scan what i like and sell them on somehow? but what if my tastes change? or an occasion happens i didnt predict?

    4. i was trained as an archivist, and a little bit of me wants to set up a spreadsheet in excell, with a tab for each publication name, and then index the ones i own! does anyone do this?

and finally 5.... as i was leaving, the ladies said they'd been there a week already and that there was another bag out back.... do you think i dare return? what would you do??

ejs. Well done on finishing Titanic! :j

    23rd. What a find!!
I only own a couple of mags so no great shakes for me to store them but I think that if I had a great big stash I would carefully remove every chart along with relevant info, (even the ones you don't like because as you say tastes change) then I would maybe sort them into categories, store them in a box with written/typed list of what's in the box and stash it somewhere....under the bed maybe?
If I knew my local charity shop had such a huge stash I think I would try to haggle some kind of deal with the ladies who work there......you take the lot off their hands for £X :D

i have an excel spreadsheet :rotfl: name/ occasion/ date needed for/ mag title/ issue/ page number.
    2. where do you store them all? close at hand? or in the attic?
in a box in my bedroom wilth all my stitching stuff (much to hubbys delight :p
    3. should i do as another lady is considering, and scan what i like and sell them on somehow? but what if my tastes change? or an occasion happens i didnt predict?

i debated that but they didn't sell after a month so have gone back in my stash :D

a good idea but think of all the valuable stitching time that would take up.
and finally 5.... as i was leaving, the ladies said they'd been there a week already and that there was another bag out back.... do you think i dare return? what would you do??

I'd go in and say ..... how much for the lot :T

For storing charts I do the highlighted bold above but then put the charts into poly pockets and keep them in A4 files in the wardrobe :) I don't keep every single chart though - there are ones I know I would never stitch no matter what the occasion! I try and scan them but never seem to have the time so nowadays I tend to just scan ones I am about to stitch.

Thanks to everyone who wished Amber happy birthday - she had a great day, the weather was scorching and the BBQ was a success. The last to leave were my sister and BIL - at 3.30am :rotfl::beer: They suffered this morning hehe, no hangover for me tho as I wasn't drinking :p

No stitching yet today, but there is a Harry Potter thing on tonight so going to watch that with hubby and DS1, we are taking him to see Deathly Hallows tomorrow while the other two are at the park/duckpond with my mum :D

    What a bargin Spiral!

Just don't let happen what happened to me - some of my early editions of magazines are in the shed (from issue 1 for cross stitcher and cross stitch collection). I was in the shed at weekend getting something out and noticed a lid had come off the archive box and some how some wet has got into them - the most damaged box has mostly the free calenders you get with the magazines. Feeling really sad - don't know what to do - have put lid back on and thinking what to do next - do I bring them in doors (which I had planned to do eventually when I have spare room sorted) and let them dry out or let them dry out best they can in shed for now.

The only magazine I can think of I hope isn't destroyed was a part work - designer Hilda Martin(?) - who did a A-Z herb series - I lost the one I stitched in the house fire - I hope it isn't destroyed. Think is from the 1990s.

One day when I have time and the house is sorted - I plan to sit down with my magazines and try and scan what I want to keep and box up rest - just in case I need them - I have about 4 archive boxes in shed - think its is from 1993-2000 out there - I have from 2000 in the house in a big suitcase needed sorted out - they were saved from the fire.

Well done once again for your find - you should try and go back - I know money is tight but what a bargin.

Can't remember who is having probs with their neighbours - I sympathise - our neighbours put me off wanting to live here at times - I just want some peace and quiet - caught their lad the other day there shimminging up the drainpipe - couldn't telll him off as I was afraid of the recurcpusions. Don't want any trouble.

    Kind wishes

    sweetcarer ;)
