I picked up some for these free cross stitch charts and now I want to make something from one but I'm not sure what size Aida I need or doesn't it matter? I've done cross stitches from kits before and I have 14ct aida but I'm not sure if this chart will work for this size aida. Has anyone used these charts before?

Not quite sure which charts you mean but unless you have a specific frame to fit it into or a reason you need it a certain size then it doesn't really matter. 14ct aida is the standard size that is used for stitching, so if you have some of that then just use it :)

IIt was my birthday yesterday and my lovely boyfriend got me a lap frame, after reading over my shoulder on this thread. I have worked out how to clip my work to the frame but I am a bit unsure on how to use it. At the moment, using a hoop, I turn my work over to come up the back of the material for a stitch. How do I do it using a lap frame? Any help much appreciated!

Belated birthday wishes :j What a useful boyfriend :T

It takes a litle getting used to but once you get the hang of it you will find it much faster. My tips are:
    - If you have a wide, flattish cushion, rest that on your lap and sit the frame on it. It gives you a more stabe base and raises it up just a little higher.
    - You can now stitch 2 handed...this will save 'wear and tear' on your stitching wrist :rotfl:(from all that twisting) You feed it through from the front with your right hand, pull it through with your left, then still with your left, locate the next hole and push it through, receiving with your right and pulling through. Does that make sense? It's easier to do than it is to explain.:o

Shelly's tip which I have quoted below is another good one - the plastic clips widen after a while, so the padding as well as protecting your stitches also doubles as keeping the clips on tightly and saving your tension. :)

. Also just to add a little tip that I think to stop your stitches getting crushed as you move a larger piece of fabric around the frame it's an idea to use some kind of padding between the stitches and the frame. Louise uses paper I think?

Shelly and Louise - Thanks a lot for your help. It is taking time to get used to using both my hands. My left hand is on a steep learning curve! I am really enjoying using the lap frame.

I am now working on my own version of a wedding sampler for friend's for their wedding this summer. I am using the bunting pattern from May's Cross Stitcher magazine. Their wedding has a very homemade vibe to it and she, along with some very helpful friends, have been making miles of bunting for their reception. So I am using the bunting pattern, adding their names and the date of their wedding. Just got to hope it turns out ok! X

    You're very welcome!

I know exactly what you mean as when I first started out I used to hold the fabric in my hand, hadn't even realised you could buy hoops let alone frames and stands :D

Must admit in the past I have tried the way Louise advised but I couldn't get on with it, felt strange using my left hand. My right hand does the actual stitching with my left hand being at the back of the fabric to guide the needle.

Welcome back - happy new year to you too - but I am confused about the reflections? What do you mean?

Well I have finished my wee wedding sampler - just to frame it and wrap it up to give to the bride and groom. Thinking of starting Kiss next. Hope everyone is well.

    Kind wishes
