I can post one if you like? Gold's meant to be more smoother through the fabric.

Hello, I've not been on for a few days. Kezbabybabe, that's very kind of you, but I have found a gold needle in a kit that came from the cross stitcher's guild so I am going to have a go with that. And the tooth filling was actually far cheaper than £450 so even if this needle won't do, I can afford to buy one of my own. But thank you so much for offering.

No cross-stitching for me tonight - I have to do boring sewing and turn up a pair of jeans _pale_ I hate turning trousers up but as I'm only 4ft 8 it is unfortunately a fact of life!

Chickywiggle, I do feel for you. Why are some men so selfish? I hope things are better for you soon. And for sweetcarer too.

... My latest edition of cross sticher came today - will read it - but I am half tempted to give it up - even tho I have been a subscriber since issue one - I don't want to as my late hubby took out the subscription for me as a gift and I never stopped it but its just I am not that intrested in it - nothing is grabbing me lately.

Need to find a cross stitch to do - maybe that will help my sanity levels.

Kind wishes where ever you are

    sweetcarer ;)

    PS sorry for long post.

no need to apologise, its been a while since we've heard from you. stitching always helps my sanity levels!
re your late hubby's present...from what you've said i'm sure that his intention when setting up the subscription for you was to give you a regular gift that brings you joy. if that is no longer Crossstitcher, then perhaps you should switch to something that does? you could always switch back later if it comes more to your taste again.

Sweetcarer, do you think your hubby might need treatment for depression? Perhaps try to get him to see a GP?

Chickywiggle, do look after yourself and find people to talk with that are familiar with what you are going through.

I ordred a new frame today to be used with my next project. So while waiting for it to arrive I started doing Sally Squirrel from Woodlands Folk. I should have her finished tomorrow. Here what she should then look like (but I have never done back stitch so very nervous about that):

Well done Marru, looks great :T

shelly, progress is looking good, you'll be finished in no time!

chicky - sorry you're having such a hard time at the moment, hugs to you. Men can be such idiots sometimes! Take care of yourself.

sweetcarer - glad things have been a bit better at work. It sounds like your husband is still struggling to adapt. Mine was like that for a while after he stopped night shift, but he went back to a normal sleeping routine after about 3 weeks. Maybe Marru is right, there could be a bigger problem? I hope your cat enjoyed his birthday :D and things look up for you soon.

Absolutely no stitching done at all since my last update, so I must get on with it soon. We now have a possible move date of 4th April (fingers crossed that the council get their fingers out and do the gas and electric safety checks so that we can keep to that date!!). That's given me a must finish date for the rocket as I want it framed and sorted before the move so it doesn't get dusty and wrecked :)

glad its looks to be sorted Ruth. :j Hope you and your husband have had a relaxing weekend.

Has anyone stitched a biscornu ??

Ive spotted one in World of X Stitching - it looks pretty impressive but a tad confusing !!

Out of interest, I had a browse on ebay earlier - there are few people selling cross stitch cards that they have made. What do others in the cross stitch cafe think about this ? Because the price that is being charged for the cards does not in any way reflect the hard work and effort that has gone into making them. I once agreed to stitch a new baby design but it wouldn't have been something I would normally stitch and I would never agree to such a request again (I never finished the design by the way - I just didn't have the time). There are several designs I want to stitch for friends but if the same friend turned round and said could you stitch this for me ?? then I think the answer would have to be no. (unless it was something that really appealed to me) Likewise, I don't think I would like to stitch for magazines. Do any of you do this ? I know you have to work to quite a tight deadline. I think that takes the fun out of it.

A bit too relaxing a weekend, I think! We were supposed to go to Tesco and buy some food so we could make a chicken pie on Sunday, but neither of us found the energy. Had a really lazy few days. Need a kick to get myself going today...:rotfl:

No, I've never stitched a biscornu. They just don't appeal to me at all. I've seen some cute ones in the magazines, but I don't see a point to them. I'm sure they look more difficult to make up than they are, though.

I wouldn't bother selling any ready made cross stitch cards or pictures online. It really isn't worth all the time it takes to stitch. Even small cards can take several hours to stitch and I doubt you'd get more than a couple of £s for them.

I've not even stitched many 'request' pieces. A few years ago, 2 of my friends were getting married and both asked me to stitch them something. I agreed and took a selection of charts from magazines in to choose from. Both designs were not the kind of thing I'd normally stitch. One was a sampler and the other a design with a realistic looking bride & groom. I started on the sampler first & it had loads of unusual stitches that I'd never done before, but I really enjoyed it and it looked great when finished. (I'll find a pic...)

The 2nd one is still not finished. The wedding was called off and I've not bothered to do any more on it.

    Hi everyone,
Hope you are all ok. I an a bit fed up of the knitting at the moment so did some more of Rocky point last night. I have 1 knitting disaster where the item ended up needing more wool than it said so I bought another ball, knitted the last piece, a sleeve at night and didn't realise how different the colour was so i am being philosphical about it and am looking at it as a learning project:rotfl:
The other thing I am knitting is also proving hard to sort out as the pattern is supposed to be a beginners pattern and it has one section that is badly written apparently, according to all the experienced knitters at my group so I have to take a lot of it back and re- do it.
So cross stitching is a breeze at the moment:D I think I need to update my sig seeing as it is now march and mine still says to finish rocky pint by end of JAN:eek:

Just noticed my sig is waaaay out of date too. Well done for picking up Rocky Point again.

    Hi ladies,

Hope everyone is feeling better than me today, am off work with flu :( I been able to stitch a little though so thats one good thing!

Santa seems to have survived his wash, waiting for him to dry at the moment. I am doing the cards for the great aunts in the meantime, and then will move on to durham cathedral. I hope to have that finished by the end of april.

Iove your finished piece Marru, so detailed :)

Glad your retail therapy helped chicky, I find it usually does! I made the mistake of clicking on your links though and now have added about 5 books to my want list!

Funny you should mention biscornu Flat Eric, I saw a couple by Jane Greenoff at the show on Sunday, beautiful things, like all of her work. I didn't buy yhe kit there as I'd spent so much aready, but I found that she does the kits on the cross stitcher guild website for £9. I am quite tempted to get one next month as an intro into stitching on linen, no idea what I'd use it for though, perhaps a pin cushion? There some other beautiful kits on there as well, my mum saw one she said she'd like to do herself so might get that too, as a bday pressie.

Has anyone every tried 'stumpwork'? From what I understand it's raised embroidery, using padding and then metallic thread over the top. I saw a stand that had some lovely kits(very expensive though!) on it but it looks awfully complicated!

Anyway, off to make yet another lemsip, take care all :)
