Morning ladies.
Everyone's progress is looking great, same goes for the finished pieces.
I didn't do any stitching yesterday due to self inflicted wounds
I have been biting the skin around the ends of my fingers and at the moment 8 out of 10 fingers are sore, yesterday a few were bleeding so I left my stitching alone and done a bit on the jigsaw puzzle instead.
They feel better today so hopefully I can do some stitching later.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Mum's in hospital
sorry this is a bit of a long rambling "feeling sorry for myself" post but it helps to get it off my chest !
Mum (87 y/o) has been short of breathe for a couple of years now but in the last few days it started to get worse, so on Weds I called the GP at 9.30 am - I was told they are booking for next week now and to call back "tomorrow" for an emergency appt!. So at 10.30 am we went to the walk-in centre who called an ambulance - suspected heart problem.
Waited 3 hours in A&E lobby until a cubicle came free. Spent 3 hours in the cubicle until a bed on the emergency short stay ward became available. Mum was settled into a lovely small ward by 7pm.
I don't know how long she'll be kept in - they are not sure if it's a slight heart prob or lung prob so they're doing loads of tests. Mum's quite cheerful and as long as she's resting she can breathe OK. The doc says they could send her home and deal with her through outpatients but they'd rather keep her in, which obviously is much better for Mum to get sorted quickly.
I'm retired (early - I'm 55), on my own so it's easier for me than my brother and sister (they work and have families). They've told me they will let me get on with it but to let them know if and when they can do anything to help. Not sure how I feel about this.
Anyway, I'm ashamed to say that I feel so kn*ckered with it all - I suppose it's the stress and worry plus the running around to get her things from her flat. Being 87 she can be awkward - she wasn't happy with half of the things I took in for her and I had to bring some home and take in different stuff (only 15-20 mins drive luckily).
I feel like a zombie this morning. The reason I retired early was very bad depression and I'm worried it will kick-in if I don't calm myself down a bit. SO,I'm planning to sit stitching and watch daytime telly until visiting time. I know this is very self-indulgent but I can't help it.
PS I'm watching the news about the terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the Pacific.

Hi Linda (ericsmum)
I hope your Mum is better soon and back home.
Don't feel ashamed that you are knackered with the running around, I feel the same when my Dad is in hospital. It's amazing how tiring travelling, visiting and worrying is everyday when you aren't used to it.
take care of yourself x:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

i have to admit when i opened up i thought "oh god" but i love it so much that i think it will spur me on to complete it. I think i will start a smaller/easier project too though just for a break when it gets too much
Linda (Erics Mum) hope your mum is home soon. I have my mum in hospital atm after an op. She has my dad and sister & bro but even then its tiring.0 -
<<hugs>> ericsmum. hope your mum is better soon.
first dose of wonder drug taken (alongside all my other meds that they can't just stop instantly) so hopefully they will work **fingers crossssed**. DS1 at childminders, DH at work.....ohh stitchy day!! and i am not moving off this sofa (except for maybe an hour or so later to sort out baby stuff).loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Chicky - i'm glad you have some possible answers. that article on the condition is really interesting. i' wishing that the wonder drug works for you.I feel like a zombie this morning. please dont apologise about sharing your troubles - we all do it and it really is fine.
also please dont feel at all guilty for feeling exhausted and for needing some 'you time'. I was the same when caring for my grandmother, and trying to hold my depression at bay as if i let it overwhealm me then i'd be less good for her. you love them so much and want to give all you can but there are times when you have to just hold onto a little time and energy for yourself.
so do give your self permission to unwind and relax with your stitching. (and if you still feel guilty then maybe it'd help if I give you permission? - blame it on orders from the cafe!)

what's happening in the Pacific is just shocking. a truely aweful day. so many billions of people right now are terrified for their lives and livelihoods. the Tsunami is expected to be higher than some Pacific Islands. there is no 'higher ground' to run to.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -

I do that sometimes, plus biting the cuticle when it's a bit ragged, although I've started letting my nails grow a bit recently, so they're much better.
Ericsmum, I hope your Mum's better soon
Chicky, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that the wonder drugs work0 -
wen-tom...where did you get the TK Disney chart from? I know you told us but my memory is terrible at the moment0
